Fonts: short question

This time I only have a short question: Is the TrueType native bytecode compiler turned ON or OFF in SUSE 9.0? I installed the source RPM package for freetype-2.1.4 (the version that comes with SUSE 9.0). In original setting (see freetype-2.1.4/include/freetype/config/ftoptions.h), the native bytecode compiler is OFF. There is a SUSE patch (freetype2-bc.patch) that is supposed to turn it on---but it modifies a version-2.1.3 file, not the right, version-2.1.4 file [i.e. the very first line says "--- freetype-2.1.3.orig/<path to above file>"]. So, it is not clear whether or not the bytecode interpreter is on or off in the SUSE binary RPM. This might be a build problem (or maybe I am just too stupid to understand what's going on. Thanks to kind folks on this list, I have managed to get SMTP working and I can receive emails on my box. My domain is ocpdba.net and my hostname is cluster.ocpdba.net I am running my own name servers at ns1.ocpdba.net and can receive emails fine. When I try to send emails this is the error that I get in the returned mail: 554 5.0.0 MX list for cluster.ocpdba.net. points back to cluster.ocpdba.net 554 5.3.5 Local configuration error Here's what my /etc/mail/local-host-names looks like: ---------------------------------------------------- ocpdba.net cluster.ocpdba.net mail.ocpdba.net smtp.ocpdba.net ----------------------------------------------------- Here's what my DNS config looks like: ------------------------------------------------------ ocpdba.net. Enable virus scanning (AMaViS)

Hi, Enabling the AMaViS virus scanner via YaST's Mail Transfer Agent disrupts sendmail and the /var/log/mail shows something like: postfix/smtp[3237]: BE42B1AEC6: to=<goofy(a)goofy.com>, relay=localhost[127.0.0.1], delay=0, status=deferred (host localhost[127.0.0.1] said: 451 4.5.0 Error in processing, id=02260-05, virus_scan FAILED: NO VIRUS SCANNERS AVAILABLE (in reply to end of DATA command)) (amavis is enabled in the run level editor) Not sure what's happening? tia.

ftp install on an nforce2 mobo

I have an Epox 8RDA+ motherboard with onboard LAN and sound. The LAN and sound are NVIDIA (nvnet and nvaudio) components. I would like to try the ftp install using the boot.iso but my nic is not recognized nor is it in the list provided on the cd. Any tips for how to get my nic working to install via ftp would be appreciated. TIA Craig

Alain, Thanks for the answer. I installed ecasound and it appears pretty complicated to me, a first time user. Could you give me some tips on how to convert an MP3 that has a bit-rate of 128k and a sample rate of 44,000 to something of much less quality. I had this problem when trying to connect with my linux-router after testing the new installation with a wintendo box. Try powering down the cable modem for a couple of minutes and then try connecting with your linux-box. Greets, Erland.

Every SuSE update mirror I try is BORKED!

What's the deal? This has been going on for weeks. I use lftp, which was just updated, but I've tried the update, and it still does the same thing. To wit: it always hangs trying to get the i686 directory. I'm getting this behavior at home and at work (with two completely different internet connections and firewall setups, which, I hope, removes that from the equation). Is anyone else seeing this nonsense? Thanks, dk

ACPI Support

I loaded Suse 9.0 on my Gateway server. It is a dual boot system with Win XP. The Suse side would not power off on shutdown. I found if I disabled ACPI in the system bios, Suse will power down but Win XP will not boot up. I do not want to have to change bios settings every time I want to go to a different os. Does anybody have any insight into how Suse can play nice with ACPI? Thanks......

Firewall Help

I am trying to set up the firewall is Suse 9 I am used to using iptable in the form of $IPTABLES -A INPUT -p tcp -s x.x.x.0/24 --destination-port ssh -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A INPUT -p tcp -s y.y.y.0/24 --destination-port ssh -j ACCEPT $IPTABLES -A INPUT -p tcp --destination-port ssh -j REJECT alllowing only networks x.x.x.x and y.y.y.y to have ssh access and block all others. This worked pretty good under Redhat but can't figure how to do it under Suse Thanks
