extra buttons on a mouse

Hi, been given a couple of mice with 6 buttons on them instead of the usual two or three to see if can get them working under Linux (SuSE 8.2). A business I help keep "linuxed" has staff complaining of repetitive clicking between screens and was told they could get around this by using the extra buttons to autoswap screens (by a winsows expert of course). I know how to get the extra keycodes on a keyboard, but how do i tell the program to look on the mouse ps/2 port instead of the keyboard port? pretty please for Christmas thanks scsijon

C Programming in SuSE

I have Personal 9.0 I wrote the basic C program first.c then I did: gcc -o first first.c then I tried to run it by typing: first and it gives me a message: bash first no such command. so I tried: gcc first.c there was an a.out file in the directory then I typed: a.out and it gives me the same error message. Is there something I'm missing with the C compiler here? I'm new to SuSE and new to linux in general. I have done some C programming in Unix and this is confusing me tremendously. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How to report kernel oops

Hi all, After using YoU to update my kernel from k_deflt-2.4.20-100 to k_deflt-2.4.20-101, I rebooted my PC and got a kernel oops, just after loading reiserfs and before VFS, ie. [...] <4>reiserfs: found format "3.6" with standard journal <4>reiserfs: enabling write barrier flush mode <4>reiserfs: using ordered data mode <4>reiserfs: checking transaction log (ide0(3,71)) for (ide0(3,71)) <4>Using r5 hash to sort names OOPS WAS HERE! <4>VFS: Mounted root (reiserfs filesystem) readonly. The screen then filled with lots of juicy details. How do I collect these details and report them? I fell back to k_deflt-2.4.20-62 and this worked. Now my susewatcher icon is suck on "red exclamation mark". No, I did not recently change my hardware. No, I don't have a memory problem. Yes, I have been using reiserfs for quite some time, with no problems. Best regards

xmms

Sometimes (just after turning on my computer) when I try to use xmms to hear some mp3s I got that the program is unable to load the plug-in and that I should check if there was an appropriate plug in installed and bla bla.. Result: I can not hear anything. It doesn't matter what I try on this session I got this error. Most of the times after login in/out everything works fine again. Has anyone experienced this? What is the reason? or how can I diagnose this strange problem?

Konqueror and Picture question

Hello, OK I was wondering if Konqueror will do a thing sonetimes called Fit to size with it's own image previewer?? Well let me explain what I want to see if Konqueror can do. I want the photo to be shown in it's entirety and not have to scroll when you click on the image. This is sometimes called Fit image to window or Fit to size. I know that other programs can do it but, I was wondering if Konqueror will do it? Everytime that I click on the image it shows up but because of the size of the image, I will need to scroll to see all of it. I was wondering how to get the full image to display without scrolling? I could just reinstall Suse but I would like to know what I did to create the problem. </snip> I actually do not know what hardware configuration that the hermes is using. I don't think a reinstall will help though, on my machine (sony laptop viao running 8.1) reinstall did not fix the issue I had with sound. I had to pass in pci=acpi at boot to fix it. I'm not sure if that will work for you or not. You might want to look in to the drivers, ALSA and OSS (free version and pay version). HTH! Daniel

Is there a mirror of the SUSE ftp site on HTTP? FTP is blocked by our firewall and I wish to up date my suse installation but have not been able to due to ftp being blocked. Josh Dalziel T-Mobile USA
