Modem support query

I am installing SuSE 8.2 for my parents next week and have just managed to get the PC's modem details from my father. It is a Motorola SM56 ISA softmodem. Now, from what I can find on the net, there was a beta driver for this being tested a couple of years ago. Does anyone know whether this card is likely to be supported by SuSE 8.2, or where I could look to find out? vmware again

I am in vmware hades with SuSE 9.0 and an athlon kernel. I have read the discussion on the list about this, and I gather that I essentially must use the kernel modules that came with SuSE rather than those that vmware-config.pl tries to install. I installed the rpm km_vmware and tried to compile them following the READMEs. No luck. Then I did "pin vmware" and discovered a vmware rpm supposedly on cd1. Ahah, I thought, that must have the mysterious kernel modules already, I will just install that. But it is not on the DVD. I searched both sides of the DVD, no vmware-anything on it. My CDs are at the office somewhere: does anyone know if it really is on the CD? Am I on the right track trying to get vmware installed? Thanks, Henry Harpending

I have been asked by a friend to find a SuSE person for a job role: The position is paying £34k and ideally they are looking for a candidate who is in the Essex area as there is some call out as part of the role. It would also be ideal if the candidate has some other UNIX flavours and as this is for a SUN partner some Solaris experience would be the favourite. At least 3 years SUSE Linux hands on experience in a commercial environment with version 8 and above. Tom, take a look at: http://www.palmcoder.net/index.php The most recent entry I added has some info about using rsync, this should help. Cable Modem Setup Trouble

I've tried everything I could to get my cable modem setup, but have failed. It should be incredibly simple. I set it up to get the host name and name servers from the ISP, as well as the IP address ( using DHCP). When I run ifconfig, it gives me an IPv6 address, and shows upon subsequent calls that there are both RX and TX packets being sent, with no errors or dropped packets. So I would assume everything is working fine. Then I go into Konquerer and try to go to www.google.com and it gives me the Unknown host error. Comparing the settings to my Mac box there is nothing I need to enter, since it pulls the router IP, my IP, and the name servers etc from the DHCP server. So I have no clue why its not working. I'm sure its something simple, so please give me some suggestions! Blake
