Evolution error

I installed Evolution via a Suse 8.1 rpm, and when I try to launch, I get an error window stating "cannot initialize the Ximian Evolution shell: Configuration Database not found." Any ideas on how to fix this would be appreciated. I do NOT want the Red Carpet system to take over though. Harry G

hardware scan on boot

Hi; When my SuSE 8.1 box boots, It gets to "starting hardware scan on boot" and it takes a very long time to slog through this (several minutes) and earlier today, it never made it through. The only solution I found was to "reload" SuSE (do an update of all packages). So my questions are a) why do I need the "hardware scan"? I have other distros that clearly do not do this. b) which script does this? c) where in /etc might I find a script that lists the overall order of boot scripts particular to SuSE? Different Kernel source RPMs

Hi all, I've just finished mirroring the 9.0 FTP tree, and am a bit confused about the apparent multiple source RPMs for the kernel. For 2.6, there are (ignoring smp and uml variants): kernel-default-26-2.6.0_test5-10.src.rpm kernel-source-26-2.6.0_test5-10.i586.rpm kernel-source-26-2.6.0_test5-10.src.rpm and 2.4 has: kernel-source-2.4.21-144.src.rpm (in the src directory) kernel-source-2.4.21-144.i586.rpm (in the i586 directory) What are the differences between these packages? different kde versions on NIS lan

We have an all 8.2 lan with clients running kde via nis and nfs from a central server. All OK under 8.2. but then I upgrade one client to 9.0 and login to my account from there. It works fine but then I can't login again from an 8.2 client. (it sits at the flashing globe forever). This defeats the idea of having nis. Apart from upgrading all boxes at the same time, is there any way around this? Indeed, should this happen at all? Thanks, Steve.

Multivision laptop compatibility

Hi all I'm about to buy a new laptop and am considering the Multivision Arcus 5050 which seems to offer the most bangs per buck. Has anyone any experience installing Linux on this or similar machines in this range? Comments gratefully received. Logrotate 3.6.6 olddir problem solved

SuSE Linux 8.2 and 9.0 contains logrotate version 3.6.6. I used APT to upgrade my version of Gnumeric. There were two gnumeric packages listed. One was simply Gnumeric. The other was Gnumeric2. Which of those is the one I want? Don Henson

Evolution

James, I tried to use APT to install the version of Evolution on the ulb web site but it is labled "evolution-devel". If I just want Evolution to use rather than to develope, do I want the "evolution-devel" version? Don Henson

kopete 0.7.4 rpm for 8.2

Hi, where can I find an 0.7.4 rpm for suse 8.2. Apart from not being very good with the command line the person this is for does not have a fast PC to compile it in a reasonable time, whatever that would be. ;) I did not find any packages at packman, neither did the version in the supplementary directory for 8.2 solve the MSN problem as the one for 9.0 did. I do not have 8.2 so I cannot create one on my own, eben if I knew how to do it. Thanks, Sven
