So far for extra addresses I found two free pop3 services mail15.com and myrealbox.com Are there any others. I tried google and found many listings which were out of date. Several of those listed were either discontinued or converted to payware. Downloading Gnome (refused)?

When I try to download files from the Gnome base packages directory on SuSE's web site, i get some files but most of them are unavailable to download. I get this message when I try to download, e.g. Geramik. ... connection closed by remote server What is the reason for this message in most but not all download attempts? What can I do to get the rest of those files? Thanks dj tuchler

K3B (0.10.2cvs) cdrdao/readcd Problem

When executing K3B 0.10.2cvs on a SuSE 9.0 Pro machine under Gnome 2.2.2, an info box comes up with the following very similar notices: =====Problem 1===== cdrdao does not run with root privileges cdrdao needs to run with root privileges to be able to access the cd devices and use real time scheduling.This is also true when using SuSE's resmgr. Solution: Use K3bSetup to solve this problem. ===== =====Problem 2===== readcd does not run with root privileges Readcd needs to run with root privileges to be able to access the cd devices unless using SuSE's resmgr with a patched readcd. Solution: Use K3bSetup to solve this problem. ===== I don't understand the solution, i.e. where the heck is K3bSetup? I looked in the K3B Settings but didn't see any obvious way to change privileges there. I tried looking for K3bSetup using the shell but didn't find anything that way either. I am assuming that once I find K3bSetup that I will be able to solve both problems. Is that correct? Any help will be appreciated. Don Henson

Service bogus failures in 9.0 ?!

Hello SuSE folkz, I've compiled linux-2.6.0-test11 kernel from the plain source. I did install latest modutils-init from Rusty's directory on kernel.org Everything works just fine and hunky dory. However, I see that during bootup SuSE reports that some services are failing - e.g. sshd, syslog, cups, cron, xdm, and some others. When I check these services after complete boot up with ps -ef|grep 'service name' they all are running fine as usual, and /var/log/warn or /var/log/messages files don't have any warning messages in them. So, these service failure messages are bogus ones. When I boot with SuSE shipped kernel 2.4.21-99 I don't see any failure messages. Could it be that ether start and stop numbers in /etc/init.d for these services are wrong, or something else? Many thanks in advance for any clarifications on this issue. Alex

When executing K3B 0.10.2cvs on a SuSE 9.0 Pro machine under Gnome 2.2.2, an info box comes up with the following notice: ===== No support for ATAPI with cdrdao You will not be able to use all your reading devices as copy sources since there is at least one not configured to use SCSI emulation and your system does not support ATAPI with cdrdao. Solution: The best and recommended solution is to enable ide-scsi (SCSI emulation) for all devices. This way you won't have any problems. ===== Again, I don't understand the solution, i.e. I have only the vaguest idea of how to enable SCSI emulation. I looked in YaST but could find no obvious way to do it. Any assistance will be appreciated. Don Henson

GDM fonts too small. How do I change this?

Hi all, Two question: 1. I have Suse 9.0 and I am using the gdm login manager. The problem I have is the fonts in the login box and the log-off menu font are small. Does anyone know the fix for this? 2. Suse 9.0 will not run on my laptop, it is IBM Thinkpad 390x --kernel panic error on the splash screen "serial driver version 5.05c (2001-07-08)....divide error...." I have to used the fail-safe and it boot ok. What is the different between the regular boot up kernel and the failsafe kernel beside the kernel options listed? Thanks in advance for your help. Lab drawing program

I'm not able to find a good program for drawing chem lab setups. I'm looking for diagrams with bunsen burners, test tubes and all the other glaswares. I"ve looked at OpenOffice dia qcad xfig + a couple more. But none of these include libraries with objects for a chemical lab. Can't this be found ? Note, it's not a program like xdrawchem that can draw molecules.

Netgear MA-401 with SuSE 9

I've seen several discussions regarding SuSE 9 and wireless cards, but I haven't seen a solution yet. I have a Netgear MA-401 PCMCIA card that worked flawlessly with RH 8, 9, and Fedora and SuSE 8.2. However, I can't for the life of me get it to work with SuSE 9. SuSE recognizes the card (although it identifies it as a prism2 and all other distros have reported it as orinoco). Various websites identify the chipset as Prism2, so I don't think this is the problem. The card gets recognized and the wlan0 interface is configured. When it tries to obtain an IP address from my LinkSys WRT54G router, I get the following errors in my messages log: wlan0 (WE) : Buffer for request 8B1B too small (0<20) I googled for this error, but could not find anything that seemed relevant to my problem. Does anyone know what this means? Thanks for any help you can provide. Alan

Small GTK Fonts in KDE

SuSE 9.0 is up and running for me, however, I have always been a Gnome user and SuSE is primarily a KDE-distro. I feel compelled to learn and to like KDE, so I am doing just that by forcing myself to use it. However, I remember now why I used Gnome in the first place, all the good applications are GTK-based. Nothing is stopping me from running GTK apps in KDE other than the fact that none of my KDE display preferences apply to my GTK apps (other than window styles). My biggest problem right now is that of my font sizes. Fonts in my GTK apps such as Mozilla and Gaim are all very small. I am running at 1280X1024 on a 20" monitor (Sun GDM-20E20 which was not in the list so I chose a GDM-17E20). If I drop the resolution down to 1024X768 everything is annoyingly huge. Because these are GTK apps, you would think I could just change my GTK display preferences. To do so I log into Gnome under the same account, from here I increase the font sizes.
