USB card reader 8 in 1 and SuSE 8.2 Pro

I checked /proc/scsi/scsi and all the devices in the reader are there I have been using the reader under Red Hat 8 but have been moving everything over to my SuSE machines. I checked and the device is lun3 /dev/sdd1 but I cant mount it. Heres what happens: If I boot with the card reader attached the system hangs at "hardware detection" remove the device and CTRL+C and I finish booting. Plug in my Melco card Reader and: [usb-storage-0] shows up in the ps aux but as "SW" for its status [scsi-eh-0] also shows up status "DW" I try to "mount /dev/sdd1 /media/usb" and the mount goes into uniterruptible status and so I loose the terminal I try "hwinfo --usb" I get one line "SCSI.2:ioctl" and then that also goes uniterruptible and I loose another terminal after plugging in the reader I get the "/usr/sbin/hwscan --usb --fast" line showing up in ps aux and its status is again "D" this remains until I reboot I remove the reader and reattach and it starts all over again with the old hwscan still there plus a new one. I ran "hwscan --list" and it sees the "Melco CF card Reader", "Melco MS card reader", "Melco xD/SM card reader", "Melco SD card reader" all with cfg="new", available=no I checked lsmod and usb-storage is loaded after attaching the card reader and yes multi LUN support is enabled in the kernel So now I am confused....Does anyone have an idea why SuSE 8.2 hangs on this reader but RedHat 8 works and how I can get this resolved so I can ditch the old OS. (okay so SuSE 9 is out but I don't have my copy yet, being in Japan SuSE only has one reseller here) Any help appreciated Dave Blomberg

kavi2svcd - How to convert 1 avi to multiple mpeg1 files to fit the VCDs

Hello all, I've been playing around with kavi2svcd a bit during the past few days, but I've sofar been unable to convince the program to create mpeg1 files the size of my VCDs (700 MB) from 1 avi file. I know I'll need at least 2 VCDs to fit this movie. Currently I get an "image too big" error when I run the vcdimager part of the program. Any and all help would be much appreciated. Sorry, I meant to type 2.4.21, typo. Is full NTFS support still experimental or something? It shouldn't be if it's in a release kernel and they are advertising it everywhere.

still having trouble with intel chip set

I think I have narrowed it down to the xserver I think I let run without Xserver running and it does not reboot Is there a new Xserver for 9 yet I have a P4 titan motherboard with an Intel 845GL chipset and it reboots all by it self I have suse 9.0 installed I have done all the update though yast and it still reboots it self It does it just setting there checking the logs it seem to do it when a cron job is running Is their a way to check if that is the case thanks I can send the logs if that would help I don't want to just post them I don't have a clue any help would be excepted thanks -- Hans hans007(a)prexar.com registered Linux user 289023 "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." -Benjamin Franklin

VNC cursor

Has anyone else had the problem with the mouse cursor disappearing when going across a VNC window? I use the Remote Desktop Connection to hook up to the Windows machines on my home network. They are using the REAL VNC server and all works great until I put my mouse cursor on the desktop window (my machine) and it disappears. It still functions as far as clicks and such. Also, this doesn't happen all the time...just sporadically. If I open a new connection, sometimes it will work, sometimes not. For that matter, can anyone tell me how to change my cursor? I've gone through the Control Center and tried to change it from black to white but it won't respond. This has been going on long before SuSE 9.0 (at least for me). Any help with this would sure be a blessing...TIA! Zach

SCPM Switching Profiles Problem

I am running SuSe 9.0 Pro on an IBM ThinkPad 600E. I have 196MB of RAM installed. I tried to change profiles in SCPM, by issuing the command "scpm switch home". After checking, and then verifying, it told me that the network group would be modified. The program continued running, telling me that the network service would have to be restarted. Alas, it bombed! >From the best I can tell, after doing this a couple of times is that something is occurring when it goes to restore the file /etc/resolv.conf prior to loading the Default Profile. There is a line that says: Restoring profile default restoring file /etc/resolv.conf Aborted I can rm the /var/lib/scpm/#LOCK, but as soon as I run the command scpm -s reload, it locks again. I am assuming that it has something to do with /etc/resolv.conf, but I know that the network has been running normally when I plugged it in at the office, where I am on DHCP. I was able to browse the network through the GUI, pull files from a share created on my Win2k workstation, and surf the Net. My /etc/resolv.conf file is empty file. Rob Smith

CMOS clock being set incorrectly
