WGET ~ trying to download the directory tree

Giving the command :- wget -m ftp://ftp.uni-erlangen.de/pub/Linux/MIRROR.suse/pub/suse/i386/9.0 results in a 'connect', and then, "LISTING" , and then the ftp server just sticks there . . . Have I made an error in the syntax of my wget command ? thanks best wishes ____________ sent on Linux ____________

time not working

Problems matching Postfix & Fetchmail

I have installed SuSE 9 Pro and things are looking good. However, I'm having problems getting may mail systems working exactly right. I have configured Postfix, Cyrus-IMAP and Fetchmail and so far Postfix appears to work with Cyrus ok, (hence I am able to send this email) but all mail delivered via sent to Postfix from Fetchmail is bounced as not going to a known user. If I try back later it is usually there. However, be carefull: several people have reported problems w/ the new Gnome rpm's... so have a back-up plan. can't unmount devices

I'm having this problem with on two machines, both SuSE 8.2. I'll put in a zip disk or a cd or a floppy, and when I'm ready to unmount it, sometimes it won't let me. It gives me this error; Could not unmount device. The reported error was: umount: /media/cdrom: device is busy I look in the process table and can't find anything related to the device in question, I try browsing to different folders to make sure it doesn't still think I'm looking at the mounted drive. I've also tried just waiting a while to see if the system figures it out on it's own. Getting 3rd mouse buttong to work as a scroll button?

I have a nice shiny new laptop with a touchpad and an interesting button arrangement. It has the 2 main buttons (left and right) and between them it has a button best described as a rocker switch button. The idea of the button is that it functions like a scroll wheel. You press the top and you should get a scroll up action, you press the bottom and you get a scroll down action. Well in theory anyway (supposedly it works like this in Windows, but I haven't installed Windows on this machine and don't plan to). It currently works as a middle mouse button if you press the down side of the rocker button. So... any direction in what I can do to get this button working as a scroll button/wheel? The "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" thing didn't work C.

Which Cable/DSL Firewall?

On my Home network I am thinking of installing a Cable router/firewall. I have looked at the D-Link 604 and also the Linksys BEFsx41. Was wondering if anyone has had any experiences with these. And would they recomend them or not. And lost but not least, do they work well with Linux. I know they are WebBased configured. which should be OK with Linux. What iI need is: - Firewall protection - URL filtering, Controlled blocking for example Java, ActiveX etc - IPSec and PPTP - Logging - DHCP Server - NTP support - VPN Thanks Stanley

kernel module-support on (now off)

How do I switch the module support of the kernel (SUSE 9.0 - 2.4.21-99)? I have the the option make config, but it comes with so many questions that i rather prefer an easier solution? Final goal is to make the webcam Quickcam 4000 working. see http://www.smcc.demon.nl/webcam/install.html#path ----Go to drivers/usb/ (drivers/usb/media/ for kernel 2.5/2.6). There you will find the existing PWC driver. VCDs(again)

Dear All, I was trying to use the kavi2svcd program to make my vcds but finally gave up. I finally succeeded in making my first vcd photo still slide show. It plays in my dvd player on the TV. I used Main Actor in Linux to get my photos sized and ready to go into vcdeasy 1.5.1 on windows. Yes, I had to resort to windows unfortunately. It worked but I could not get vcdeasy to burn it so used Nero which further processed the photos to be vcd formatted. After alot of trials it all finally worked. I would love to do this all in Linux as well and hope to find a way that is not too complicated for me. The problem I have is that I think my resizing for vcd has made alot of the photos extremely small. Does anyone know of a way to play a vcd photo still slideshow fullscreen--- that is have each photo display to be a full screen display or at least close to it on TV? I have studied alot of the docs about this but just have not quite found the answer yet. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Marcia

MPlayer plugin question

Has anyone got the mplayerplug-in working in KDE/SUSE9.0? I've got MPlayer installed with all the codecs. Tested and working with pretty much anything I throw at it as a stand alone multimedia file. I've DLed the plugin, did the ./configure, make, and copied the mplayerplug-in to the plugins directory. Then I tried the acid test and went to a site with embedded video - tried http://www.apple.com/trailers but it doesn't work. All I get when I try to load a trailer is the page loads with the <embed> tagged window. The plugin starts, and in the window I see "mplayerplug-in loading playlist" and then it updates and says "playing <URL>" and stops there. Sometimes (rarely) it loads the initial frame of the video in the embedded window and then stops. If I click the back button, the KDE crash handle pops up grousing abotu a Sig11 crash and a backtrace says 0x41451ab6 in waitpid () from /lib/i686/ libpthread.so.0 I can load the specific URL for the Quicktime video into MPlayer and play it as a streaming video so it's not specifically MPLayer that's the problem. Any ideas or suggestions? C.
