Hi guys... from where can I get some information or examples on how to setup a firewall using SuSEfirewall2 ? I know that there is some information at http://www.suse.de/~marc/suse.html but... any manual... examples of configuration a simple firewall, one with a DMZ, etc thanks in advance

SuSE8 and CD Player?

Can't seem to get the cd players to work, they don't see a CD in the drive. Any suggestions?

Diskless PPC Client - newbie

I recently obtained an IBM 8361-100 PowerPC Thin Client Workstation. Is there a way I can use this as a diskless client to boot from a SuSE i386 machine? Does it have to boot from a SuSE PPC install? Any help appreciated. Thanks Peter Akre

Advice Needed re Home LAN, etc.

I am without a clue as to setting up a LAN. On the other hand, there are reasons why I will have to. The two computers run on different OSs, mine being on Linux and hers being on another kind, not to be named. Where can I get advice as to how to set up a home LAN (2 computers) attached through a telephone line to the Internet? Thanks dj tuchler

Computer Language...

A general question from a realtive newbie. I have gotten used to the way that Linux works, and want to get into real coding of applications for my boxen. What would be good languages to learn. I already know that PERL, and C, and Sed. Is there anything else? And does SuSE use mostly C, or Mostly Perl, or what? Thanks in Advance. Port Replicators, Dell Inspirons, and Linux

Hi All, I am thinking about getting a port replicator or docking station for my Dell Inspiron 3500 laptop. I have SuSE Personal Edition 8.0 installed on it. Does anyone know if it is a complicated process getting a port replicator to work with Linux? I am pretty new to computers in general, and do not know whether this is a situation that will require drivers that may or may not have been written, or if it is a difficult thing to get running or not. Hard or Easy? That is my main question. Thanks. Neal McDermott

dhcpcd and hostname issue

I have a 7.3 pro install on a network with an MS - dhcp server. The machine obtains a dhcp address just fine. However when I try to ping the machine's name (linux) from that machine itself I get a host unknown. I'm using dhcpcd, and I've updated the /etc/rc.config.d/dhcpcd.rc.config with no luck. Any ideas? Files on Hard Drive with 8.0 and no YaST1

I managed to get a fresh install using my cds that were copied to the hard drive, but now every time I try to install another package I get the error the files are older than my installed system and aborts. This is extremely frustrating, why did they remove YaST1 that worked? I also have some .rpm files that I want to install and can't get the new YaST to look at the directories with the downloaded files, does this mean I have to manually install every new rpm I download? Why did they remove YaST1 that worked? If anyone can tell me how to get the new YaST to install a file from a directory, please let me know. thanks in advance joe PS: I think not including the orginal YaST was a serious mistake, I can no longer recommend SuSE to anyone, this is a disaster.

LinNeighborhood

With LinNeighborhood in 7.3, all I had to do was install the smbclient etc., packages from CD (no config required), install LinNeighborhood and run it. Now with a clean install of 8.0, NADA!
