dhcpcd and hostname issue
I have a 7.3 pro install on a network with an MS - dhcp server. The machine obtains a dhcp address just fine. However when I try to ping the machine's name (linux) from that machine itself I get a host unknown. I'm using dhcpcd, and I've updated the /etc/rc.config.d/dhcpcd.rc.config with no luck. Any ideas? Thanks, Ron -- Ron Joffe rjoffe@yahoo.com
Hello Ron, Well if you just want to be able to ping yourself edit your /etc/hosts and add linux 127.0.0.1. If you have a name resolution for your private network, then modify your /etc/resolv.conf to point the right name server. And yes, the dhcp client can automatically update the /etc/resolv.conf if the dhcp server is providing the address of your network's dns. Give us more information on what you wan and what is your setup if you need more help. Pep. On Friday 26 April 2002 16:18, Ron Joffe wrote:

My network does not have a nameserver on it (long story), and I am familier with the loopback setup, but what I really am looking for is the equivelant of having the dhcp client add the ip address which it receives from the dhcp server to the /etc/hosts file. The dhcp client is already updating the /etc/resolv.conf. On Friday 26 April 2002 11:44, you wrote:
