Installation from hard drive with 8.0

How do you do it? My cds were copyied top to /hda11/suse8.0 As I did with previous version that worked ok using YaST1, I copied all the cds into th esame directory using cp * /hda11/suse8.0 -Rv Every time using the bootdisks the actual error is /dev/hda11: no such device On the menus it shows /hda11 with the correct ext3 file system I seem to remember needing to go into debug and change a few system setting, but don't remember. The ideal method would use the boot cd, but really lost with that. My goal it to update and be able to access the hard drive for additon software installation. It appears this isw not covered under my free installation support , becasue it is not the normal way to install SuSE. thanks in advance, joe

Backup Questions.

Where are the windows partitions??

Ok, just installed 8.0 - and very please overall. However, in 7.3 and earlier one had, by default, access to the windows partitions in linux, and this was both on the desktop and in fstab. Now there is no sign of any windows partitions. For instance, there used to be /dev/hda1 Windows C drive - now nothing and the /dev/hda3, hda5, for D and E, etc.... are gone, not in fstab - though these weren't overwritten or formated (and though I haven't booted into windows I am assuming that they are still intact and functioning). Now, might someone tell me how to find out the devices and there parameters so I can configure fstab to read these partitions. TIA, Curtis

Mail size limit for one account only!

The recently virus get me on the nerv!!! I get daily about 120 messages, each one 120k long and just this Worm virus. I would like to setup a procmail rule in sendmail which should do: 1. check if the message is larger than 20k, if so send just a message back that the message is too large and is rejected, please send a shorter message instead. 2. Since this message is most likely bounced and comes back I need to prevent that it is sent again!!! Question from non-SuSE user

Hello, I have been trying out several distributions (including SuSE 7.3) and have a question about SuSE 8.0. Recently, I tried out Mandrake and that distro has an update feature that allows you to connect to the Mandrake "Cooker" to download and install new versions of various RPMs. I can also install rpms that I have not previously installed from these ftp sites and the program will resolve any dependencies and either ask me for my installation disks or, I belive, download the necessary dependencies. Does SuSE's YaST support a similar type of update feature? I tried 7.3 in the past and I cannot remember how YaST worked. Problems with 8.0 clean installation using existing partitions

I am attempting to do a clean instal of Suse 8.0 over an existing 7.3. I got as far as 'Installation Settings' and a few subsequent attempts to get Yast to use the partitions already present on the disk before I simply quit. The problem is that Yast (Preparing Hard Disk -- Step 2) requires that in choosing where on the hard disk to instal that I "must start the selection with the highest-numbered partition." Naturally, the present / partition (5.0 Mb) is /dev/sda1; /home is /dev/sda2 (10.0 Mb) and /dev/sda3 is a 2.0 Mb swap partition. It will not allow me to choose /dev/sda1. I want to instal there however. Any suggestions? I don't want to - nor should I be forced to - lose anything on my /home partition. Cheers, -- Len Blanks

localhost problem

I've searched through my saved messages but can't find the answer to this very simple problem. After a recent re-install of suse 7.2 pro I can no longer connect to http://localhost I've got: START_HTTPD DOC_SERVER = yes DOC_ALLOW = localhost START_LOOPBACK = yes set in my rc.config (via yast) What did I miss?
