Boot install from DVD?

Well it doesn't bother me. Ive translated German/English/Finnish and will always get a native speaker to run through it afterwards to check grammar and fluedity. The new SuSe manuels are well written and the missed translations appear only on the "see diagram-type" headings which seems like computer error. Stickers anyone? or are we not cute anymore: lean and mean I guess. On a more serious note: for some reason I get an error when trying to reply to address in Kmail Bernt

Converting Albums to MP3

Hi All, I want to convert my record collection MP3 and I am looking for a way to do it. Somewhere in my memory is a program that will record what comes into the sound card and indentify the pauses between songs and separate them into individual WAV files. Once in WAV, the conversion to MP3 is pretty easy. However, it is this first step that has me stumped. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreaciated. Regards, jimmo

squid problem

hello my dear friends I have a problem with squid, it happens that when I load a place web this many times it leaves me incomplete, without some images and I have to make recharge so that it is well. if I don't use squid, but only mascareo (nat) no place fails. some idea of what could be happening? SuSE 8.0: fine improvements

I'm very satisfied and no problems apart from the fact that my HP laserjet 3100 is an unsupported linux device. Wish I knew if I could at least scan with the thing. KDE3 is slick as is all of SuSE 8.0. Its very refined and you get a n ice install without all the zillion of extra things. More integrated feel to everything. Also it comes with Galeon: I like this as I don't have the time to compile it from scratch. The manuals have some German text in them throughout: rush job no doubt: Hey SuSe: if you need a proof-reader I can do your manuals in about 2 hours. $50 cheap. This may sound silly but: Miss the STICKERS: none in box for the kid. HP: Anyway HP you really suck even though you are beginning to get smart on Linux: I got a second-hand laserjet 3100 from one of my students and had to pay $40 for the a-c connector and there are no drivers at all and must buy the jetsuit disk too. Its unbelievable that they sell printers without cables or software. Personally I think its silly to wait for a newer releases in order to get the bugs out: 8.0 has all the fixens from its predecessor and its only with newer packages (Galeon, Vega Strike, etc) that you may have problems. This is the first release since 7.2 that actually WORKS with my pcmcia out of the box. It recognizes my pcmcia modem that 7.3 failed to do and 7.2 required tweaking to get it to work. It also sees my Iomega Clik! (pcmcia) drive. It does set it up as a floppy while 7.3 set it up as /dev/hde. I find 8.0 very stable from a non-tech users although I have used SuSE since 6.4 (went from 6.4->7.1->7.2->7.3). I like it!!! Regards Keith B. howto reset a PPPOE modem?

Hello list, I have an Alcatel ADSL PPPOE modem connected to eth0 with a persistent connection. Sometimes when the line drops the system is unable to reconnect back again. Looks like the modem is lock somehow. Do you know any method to reset the modem after disconnection? I've been 2 weeks around this trouble and found no solution... SuSE v8 Booting WinME & Mouse Problems

Hi all Sorry but here comes another new Linux user and I have two problems. The first, I loaded SuSE version 8 Personal on my system running Windows ME and unfortunately I can now not boot Win ME unless I use a floppy disc. Using the Lilo menu just produces a screen flicker and drops back to the menu. Because of the next problem I have tried to re-install SuSE on four occasions so guess trying Lilo -u/dev/hda, which I have tried, is not going to restore the original boot block is not going to work. Secondly I am using a Logitech cordless keyboard and mouse. During the installation SuSE used the following mouse driver, Intelli/Wheelmouse (Aux-Port), without problem but after re-booting the mouse no longer works. The auto detect reports the same mouse has been found but the mouse refuses to work. I managed to get into Xterm-2 but although this also shows the Intelli/Wheelmouse (Aux-port) there seems to be no way of making it work. Can anyone suggestions gratefully received.
