Sheesh,it sounds like you're S.O.L. without a CD. I never could understand the idea of shipping a computer without the operating system CD. Oh well, it sounds like you can boot from lilo or grub. Samba PDC set-up with W2K clients

Hi, I am trying to set-up Samba as a PDC for a small network of W2K machines, without much success. I am running SuSE 7.2 with Samba 2.2.2 and W2K SP2 clients. I have read (and re-read) all the how-tos I can find, I have also spent most of the day searching the newsgroups, but I am getting stuck on the last step. When I change my network set-up in W2K from workgroup to domain, it asks for a password. All the docs say that I should enter 'root' here, but this gives me an error "login failure : unknown username or bad password" I have all the required user accounts including root set up in Samba, and I can successfully 'map a driver as...' each user. I have the machine account set up in Samba for each of the clients, and if I try to 'map a driver as...' a machine account samba responds with 'This is a machine account ...' error, so I believe these are set-up correctly. SuSE noshow at LWCE NY 2002

Hi, I was at LWCE yesterday and found SuSE to be absent from the floor. I came to know later that they cancelled their spot. So with this and coupled with the fact that they laid off most of the US staff, does it mean that SuSE is no longer interested in US market? Lenz? I was also surprised to see Mandrake booth. Guys, I got this message after I replied to Ben Rosenberg's rant on helping people with windows issues, what in the world does it mean? I've been advised that I'm missing "START_LOOPBACK" environment variable. Should I manually put it in the "rc.config" file? Is there anything else that I need to do, as well? Thank You, Anthony

Writing & Reading Chinese Character.

I wonder if someone can point me out how to read & write chinese in SuSE. I already change the KDE language to chinese, but can't read a things. I believe this is font isue, but I don't know which font support chinese. I haven't do research for chinese input method for Linux. Please enlighten me where should I start for this. I'm running SuSE 7.3 Pro. thanks.

Font issues getting worse...

Starting to get these after updating to the newer XFFree42, but had font issues that occured after messing with elven fonts and with kcontrol's font installer. Executing /sbin/conf.d/SuSEconfig.fonts... Updating fonts.scale for truetype Updating fonts.scale for CID Updating X11 font directory truetype... /usr/X11R6/bin/mkfontdir: bad format for /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype/fonts.scale file /usr/X11R6/bin/mkfontdir: failed to create directory in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype Any ideas at all?
