[SLE] Need some advice

I am going to get my 'unlimited' ADSL Ethernet service soon, currently I am using ATM ADSL, which unable to work under Linux, Gate got it again :( I am going to get an ADSL modem, but there are two type, Full Rate and G.lite? what I notice is G.lite have lower transfer rate. Now, the questions: a. Can both type work under Linux (SuSE 7.1)? the ADSL dialer in 7.1 can work with both? b. I am looking at the Linksys ADSL router for this modem, or should I just using a Pentium 133 (sleeping at the corner) instead? c. If I would like to using the P133 as firewall and router (simple one for home use), what is the minimum things I need to do? I already got a small network setup. I am new to firewall and routing, so please forgive me on my ignorance. Thank you. Dennis/sg

I forgot to set the block size to 32k in the preferences. tar doesn't work either unless you add the -b 64 to the command. Unfortunately I'm not at my machine to try it out. Worth a go though. Sean. I found this out a while ago. It seems that 2.2.18 according to Onstream already has the patch in it. What is your opninion about mt-st?? It's distributed with 7.1. Sjoerd

KDE2 taskbar

Hi, I've just upgraded to KDE 2.1.1 and now the bar along the bottom is behaving strangely. When I log in the bar in about 1 width above the bottom of the screen. If I drag&drop it to one side, then back to the bottom it sits nicely along the bottom edge of the screen where it should. Has anyone else seen this? And how do I get it to go to the right place first time? Thanks in advance, Mark

Problem with Win95

First of all, my apologies to the group for posting this problem here, but I've had no luck with the local MS Win95 'experts' Actually, this does involve SuSE/Linux because the problem is on one of my dual boot platforms and resulted in my having to figure out a work around in order to install v7.2, but that's a story for another submission. The platform had a HD pack up last week and I siezed upon that as an excuse to increase my HD space on that platform. I got a 45GB Maxtor - I've had good luck with Maxtor DH's in the past and their software makes installation very easy. I accepted the Maxtor default FAT16 partitioning and created 23 2GB partitions with a smaller 24th partition on the end. Subsequent to this step is where I generate the problem for which I'm seeking a solution. Because of the new drive there are more than 26 partitions on the machine, which exceeds the limit that the Win95 File Manager, actually it's power desk - which is based on the Win95. So the Win95 File Manager ran out of assignable drive letters before it assigned a letter to the CD drive. BIOS still finds the CD during boot and Linux certainly does but Win95 doesn't. The file manager sees drives A through U, with the exception of B. One of the 'experts' I consulted said duhhhhhh and the other said that he thought that there was a number restriction that MS imposes on Win, but he wasn't sure. I dimly remember something about a lastdrive specification in MS OSs, but no details. Help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

7.1 windows client printing

Hello, I just moved from SuSE 7.0 to SuSE 7.1 by reinstalling. I use HP 2100TN JetDirect printer. I use kernel-2.4.2, LPRng-3.6.26, ifhp-3.4.4, Samba-2.0.7 Printing from Linux server works just as before. Printing from Windows clients has problems. uppgrading problems

When I try to update my software from the SuSE server I get the message that the update can't be done becouse of missing or baldly configured PGP. What do I do about this? I installed defult without office from the DVD. I also seem to be missing a lot of libraies, and get the message "bad magic" when I try to gunzip something. please help me! Unless something drastic has changed between SuSe 7.0 and 7.1, the answer to that question is /sbin/init.d. Got the Ripper part, now for the Encoder....

I have downloaded and installed "grip". It will let me rip a CD; however, it will not let me rip and encode the .wav files into .mp3's all in one shot. Can anyone suggest a good encoder app. that will turn my .wav files into .mp3's and then burn the stored files from hard drive onto CD-R. All suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks. Gnome font sizes

I find the default font sizes under Gnome very difficult to read. How can I change them? The Gnome Help Browser and the GIMP help are the ones I was particularly interested in, but I notice that Netscape text is ridiculously tiny, too. An alternative solution would be to change screen resolution. How do I do that? Chris Willmot
