It's a good idea to get the latest available version from SuSE (http://www.suse.de/en/support/download/updates/71_i386.html). It should work "out of the box". Just remember that the file extention is .php (unless you specify otherwise in httpd.conf). PHP isn't fussy about the tags but "<?" is preferred over "<?php". I think I gave you instructions for SuSE 7.0; try this as su root: Set START_MYSQL in /etc/rc.config to "yes" and then run rcmysql start. This then states that the root password must be set as follows: /usr/bin/mysqladmin -u root -p password 'password'. You are prompted for the current password, which is <NULL> initially. SuSEfirewall2 and setiathome

Hello, Up to today, I had no problems with setiathome running on my Mac connecting through my linux box to update itself. My linux box is using SuSEfirewall2 with kernel 2.4.6 to masquerade my home network of four machines. Between the last time setiathome successfully updated and today I changed rc.config to start netatalk, xntp, and mySQL at boot. (I also upgraded from 128M RAM to 320M RAM, but I can't see how that would have an effect.) I have since changed the setting for starting atalk (netatalk) back to "no" and I removed the AppleTalk related services, ntp and ftp from this line in firewall2.rc.config: # Common: ssh smtp domain FW_SERVICES_INT_TCP="ssh smtp domain" When I connect to my home page over the Internet using Netscape from the Mac (192.168.0.2), the first attempt to connect fails, and /var/log/messages shows these messages: Oct 1 15:38:17 dragoon modify_resolvconf: Service ipppd modified /etc/resolv.conf. I suspect that what is happening is that setiathome trying to connect and my linux box is setting up the ISDN connection. But, before the firewall rules are completely set, the firewall denies setiathome's connection attempt. setiathome then fails without making a second (and potentially successful) attempt to connect. Is this analysis sound? If so, what can I change to make setiathome's and Netscape's first attempts to connect succeed? Is there a way to speed up SuSEfirewall2's loading of its rules? Seen from another perspective, are there services I can halt (xntp, mySQL) that might be slowing SuSEfirewall2's setting of its rules? What other information do I need to provide? Let us know what results you get from gpart, again, READ the documentation on that utility. Copy gpart into a floppy and boot the rescue system from CD number 1, then you can run it. Another option you have is to get a disk test tool from the manufacturer of your drive. Other hard disk manufacturers' tools usually can test drives too, you can try those. One more option is to contact the mantainers of fdisk and ask them what the meaning of the error messages you are. They may assist you more effectively. Rafael

[SLE] SuSE 7.2 cooling fan on always and kde question

Hello All, This is my first mail to this group, so please forgive me if I do something wrong, or if this is not the place for these 2 questions... I just bought SuSE 7.2 Pro and installed it on a new Sony Vaio 1.5GHz P4 machine. 7.2 is a great improvement from 6.3 by the way! I have been running 6.3 on another machine for over a year. I use the KDE interface on both machines. Question 1: My CPU Fan seems to be on 100% of the time I am booted into SuSE 7.2. When I boot into windows, the fan only comes on occasionally. Is this normal for SuSE to run the fan all of the time? Is it going to burn out the fan eventually? Question 2: In 6.3, all open windows were shown in buttons just above the task bar at the bottom of the screen, so I could quickly jump to any window - even if it was on another virtual screen (then it's virtual screen would automatically become active). In 7.2, I only have buttons for windows that are open on the active virtual screen (and they are shown right in the task bar), so I have to switch to the other virtual screen first to get to a window there. Is there a way to have it show all window buttons in 7.2 like it does by default in 6.3? I have looked extensively everywhere I could think of to find answers to these questions before using this mail list, but I can't find information about them.
