SuSE 7.1 MySQL 3.23.33 Want to go to the 4.02a version of MySQL... Anyone done this yet? Got a process the rest of us can follow?

SuSE NVIDIA problem!

Hi! I have the infamous Nvidia-SuSE problem that my computer locks up during log out. I have a freshly installed SuSE 7.3. I did an upgrade the updated the NVIDIA kernel and GLX to the newest one. I still have the lock up. I modified my modules.conf according to the suggestion of the SUSE Support Database with alias char-major-195 NVdriver options NVdriver NVreg_UseKernelAGP=1 (since I have a i815 based motherboard (Asus CUSL-2)). The somuter still locks up if I want to restart X server. It starts up without any problem but as soon as I want to switch to text mode or reboot the lock up occurs. Interestingly, in failsafe mode the problem does not happen. (BTW, what does failsafe do?) Csaba

SuSE 7.3 installation trouble on dual-processor system

I am experiencing some trouble installing SuSE Linux 7.3 on my dual-processor system. I have installed on an IBM Thinkpad without any trouble at all, but my primary workstation will not use the kernel I want to install: I have installed "everything". The system has an Asus CUV4X-DLS motherboard (http://www.asus.com.tw/products/Motherboard/pentiumpro/cuv4x-dls/spec.html) This motherboard is holds two 1000 MHz PIII FC-PGA processors and a VIA 686b chipset. I have tried installing both the 2.2-SMP and the 2.4-SMP kernel included in SuSE 7.3, but I cannot boot with those. In fact, the only kernel I can boot with, included in this version, is the i386 kernel. When installing the SuSE 7.3 2.2-SMP kernel the last two lines I see are: ide0 at 0x1f0-0x1f7,0x3f6 on irq 14 ide1 at 0x170-0x177,0x376 on irq 15 When I ran SuSE 7.1 with the included 2.2-SMP kernel these lines looked exactly the same. When installing the SuSE 7.3 2.4-SMP kernel the last three lines I see are: ENABLING IO-APIC IRQs ... changing IO-APIC physical APIC ID to 2 ... ok. .. TIMER: vector=0x30 pin1=2 pin2=0 When I ran SuSE 7.1 with the included 2.2-SMP kernel these lines went: ENABLING IO-APIC IRQs init IO_APIC IRQx IO-APIC (apicid-pin) 2-5, 2-9, 2-10, 2-11, 2-13, 2-20, 2-21, 2-22, 2-23 not connected. I had some trouble with this issue when installing SuSE 7.1. Then, I couldn't install the included 2.4-SMP kernel. The boot halted when the IO-APIC lines started showing up. I could, however, boot with the included 2.2-SMP kernel installed. I find it very strange that a newer SuSE version ruins my chances of using one of the included SMP kernels when at least the 2.2-SMP kernel worked previously! I suspect that there are two completely different reasons for the non-completing boot with the two SMP kernels in SuSE 7.3 (because of the last lines I see during boot). I believe that the problem with the 2.2-SMP kernel is some IDE-DMA isue and that the problem with the 2.4-SMP kernel is about IO-APIC. Has anyone here got some ideas about what to do in this situation? Best regards, David List

VIA chipsets - known problems?

I have previously posted here about an installation problem with SuSE Linux 7.3 on a system with an Asus CUV4X-DLS motherboard. http://www.asus.com.tw/products/Motherboard/pentiumpro/cuv4x-dls/spec.html By now, I have come to suspect the motherboard's chipset as the problem. I cannot boot with any other kernels that the i386 kernel included with 7.3. I would, of course, like to use at least the included 2.2-SMP kernel to make use of both processors on the motherboard. The motherboard holds the VIA Apollo Pro133 chipset with 694XDP 133MHz AGPset and VT82C686B South Bridge. I have stumbled upon reports about problems with the 686B South Bridge and IDE, and reports about problems with VIA chipsets and SBLive! soundcards. I have a SB PCI512 soundcard installed in the system. Could anyone here tell whether or not I may be affected by these problems? Samba only serves /home directory

Hi everyone. Our server succesfully exports to linux machines with stuff. We just installed Samba from 7.2 according to the manual but all we can see from a w98 client is my home directory on the server. We thought that it would serve files from the w98 disk too. Can't see what we have missed out. Thanks, Steve.

Hi If I'm sitting at the server, is there a way to be able to 'see' the clients and put stuff on their disks from that central point? I think it's to do with /etc/exports but I didn't think that the clients could have one. Thanks, steve.

Xcdroast

Hi. I have installed SuSE linux 7.3 Also I have installed the Xcdroast, that works ok. But when my cdrom drive shall work with the Xcdroast I need by the help of Yast to put in the 'hdc=ide-scsi' in the LILO under administration. Opposite I have to delete that part of the line if the cdrom has to be used 'normally'. How can I avoid this changing forth and back ?. Hello all Recently, there have been a number of threads here about Asus (A7V133 - A7V133A - A7M266) motherboards running at abnormally high temperatures. Like mine does. I started the first thread some time ago, because I wanted to know if I was the only one. To my surprise I discovered that a lot of people where affected, and that the problem occured on several types of Asus-boards. Not getting any decent response from Asus support, I started a search into this matter. And I found out a number of very interesting things, including the reasons behind this.
