There is a wonderful way to learn how to do this at linuxfromscratch.org I have built my own distro from scratch and it is an excellent way to learn how to administer a "pure" linux system. Any of you with fair technical know-how give it a shot. Pick up a kernel from kernel.org, the utils from the GNU site, and a dozen or so other utilities from various other sites. Then study perl or bash or python until you are an expert one of them (is bash powerful enough?) and write your config scripts, layout your own FS schema, etc... Should be fun, if you don't have to work to pay bills. Setting SSI on SuSE 7.0

Hello All I have a question how to enable SSI on SuSE 7.0 I was try many time but still not working, hope somebody can help me. my setting in httpd.conf # Enable server side includes (SSI) for the index.html pages, as some of the content # is created dynamically. Yes, I'm using ReiserFS, but I've done this on my desktop and it worked just fine and I'm using ReiserFS on it. I didn't know there were any patches needed. I just downloaded the lx_suse source from SuSE and configured the kernel...I remember selecting ReiserFS on a kernel module. httpd.conf error at boot

Can any one help please? I am running 7 on dell notebook. Have just booted and spotted error message: "syntax error on httpd.conf" This was not there this morning and I haven't been anywhere near httpd.conf (as I know nil about it). Any suggestions as to where I should start to look? I have looked through most of /var looking for messages etc with today's date and found nothing which seemed remotely relevant (apart from the fact that quake seems to be looking for music files on my hard-drive - which is amusing but hardly relevant). Simple LiLO Question

I noticed that when I installed SuSE 7.0 it put three entries in LiLO, linux, SuSE and Windows. Does anyone know what the diffeence is between the linux and SuSE entries - is it documented anywhere? Nev

Recompiled 2.4.0 - It Runs - No IPCHAINS

Evidently IPCHAINS has been replaced with "netfilter". I depended on pmfirewall for security, but all I get are errors to try "ipchains -h". I have DSL connection and feel I must have a firewall.
