CD Writer under SuSE Linux Pro 7.0

Hi, I am thinking of buying an IDE CDRom writer for my SuSE Linux 7.0 Professional box (Intel x86). Some limited details of a model that I have in mind are below. Are IDE CD writers well supported under SuSE? Do you think the one I have in mind will install and work with the minimum of "fuss"? What do other people recommend? Is it worth avoiding IDE and just sticking to a big brand name SCSI version? 2gb file size limit with 2.4.0/reiser/XFS/ext2???

I thought the 2gb filesize limit was supposed to dissapear with kernel 2.4.0 and reiser. I know it's not a kernel issue because I have sgi's XFS file system on this machine also and am able to write/read files much larger than 2gb. I have a vanilla 2.4.0(final) with the reiser patches and sgi's xfs patches installed and working well, except the reiser filesystem HAS a 2gb filesize limit. Isn't reiser supposed to have broken the 2gb file size limit when used with the 2.4.0 kernel???? I haven't tried the ext2 filesystem with the 2.4.0 kernel. Isn't it also supposed to break the 2gb filesize limit with the 2.4.0 kernel??? -- Mark Hounschell dmarkh(a)cfl.rr.com

I thought the r128 driver was the correct driver for all the latest ATI cards. I have seen other users state that it's the driver they use to get newer ATI graphics cards to work using XFree86 4.0.2. I'll check to see if I have this file in the directory you mention. Thank you for your help. sendmail relay problem on SuSE v7.0

Hi everyone, uname -a : Linux homer 2.2.16-SMP #1 SMP Wed Aug 2 20:01:21 GMT 2000 i686 unknown SuSE Linux 7 Professional I would like sendmail(version 8.10.2) to relay mail messages from a limited number of domains that I specify in advance. I have added the domains that I wish to be relayed to the /etc/mail/access file, ie : a.domain RELAY b.domain RELAY I then did: makemap hash /etc/mail/access < /etc/mail/access then did: /etc/rc.d/sendmail restart However, if a host from the listed domain attempts to relay a message to a third party email address it recieves the following error: "An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: 5.7.1 <garry.smith(a)computer.org>// Relaying denied. Gdm login screen (slightly OT)

Hello, Since I have installed Helix-Gnome and Nautilus, I thought I would change to the Gdm login screen instead of Kdm. Did this in yast and rebooted to the Gdm login. However, my keyboard does not seem to work when I am at the login screen. Mouse works, but all I can do is reboot or halt the system. Not a real problem, as I can change back to Kdm by booting to init 1 and calling yast, but curious if anyone else has had this situation. Helix install was no problem, but I did --force --nodeps --replacepkgs to get Nautilus installed as it is meant for RH6.2 (for whatever reason). Appears to work fine, but maybe....? Thanks, Tom

Good to hear that something on my system is finally beginning to look similar to others, even if it is an error message. :-) I read the excerpts from your XF86Config file and I'm still not completely sure what I have to comment-in, or edit. I have copied the relevant section of my XF86Config file below. You'll see that my "Screen" inputs are designated "Screen 1" in the config file. Working in a coalmine with XFree4.0.2

Hello All: Looking for assistance with installation of XFree4.0.2 in order to utilize my ATI Radeon graphics card in SuSE Linux 7.0. I am getting so close now, but still Xwindow system fails to work. I wiped out all the old symbolic links from installation of 4.0.2 with the RPM files d/l'ed at the Suse ftp site. I have removed all modifications made by using the RPM files. I went to xfree86.org and d/l'ed entire library of libc5 binaries for installation of 4.0.2. I burned them onto CD and copied files onto Linux box from CD. Installed XFree 4.0.2 using the Xinstall.sh script file. I tried to configure xwindow system using the command "XFree86 -configure" but this command was not recognized. I also tried command "xf86cfg" but this command was not recognized either. Defaulted back to xf86config. I have tried several different X configurations to get it to work; however, I get very similar log results each time. Below is the output file from /var/log/XFree.0.log I apologize for the length of the post, it's just that I have no idea what information is considered important and which info. is useless in the log file.
