My installation of Suse 7.0 Pro with yast2 went very smoothly and a beautuful screen came up. But after a click or two of the mouse I have no mouse and no keyboard. I see "loading USB failed" fly by during the installation. I find it hard to beleive that can be a problem as there was no mouse problem with Red Hat. I tried sax2 without success. The mouse is a Logitech 3-button MouseMan. I sure would appreciate some help on this as it looks like a long wait to hear from Suse. Jack

The 'alsactl' program can be used to create an /etc/asound.conf. Also, an initial configuration is commonly created with muting enabled. Use the 'amixer' program to make sure muting is off. -jrh

new nvidia drivers

What gives: SuSE 7.0, one CPU, uniprocessor kernel: SuSE 6.4, one CPU, uniprocessor kernel: SuSE 6.4, SMP kernel: No SMP support for 7.0? Anyone know if the 6.4 SMP file would work? I'm guessing no, but doesn't make sense why there are no 7.0SMP. BTW, they have RH7.0 SMP.

Where can I disable kmix and kaudioserver, etc..

cdparanoia problem

Can anyone help? I have used cdparanoia may times without a problem, and I am suddenly getting this error message: scsi_read error: sector=0 length=7 retry=0 Sense key: b ASC: 48 ASCQ: 0 Transport error: Unspecified error System error: Input/output error any ideas? Thanks fxf

Updating RPM

I have some packages that are supposedly not distribution specific, but they are wanting a newer version of rpm. On some Red Hat 6.2 boxes I updated rpm with the one from there site and it worked fine. I just checked SuSe's site and did not find an rpm update. Can I install the RH version w/o pear shaping anything? Thanks, CC

SuSE firewall problem.

Hi all, Yesterday, I gave up my initial connection setup for adsl and went over to rp-ppoe adsl connection package. ( because of adsl status.) The SuSE firewall was configured with internet interface = ethO ( which is ,I suppose, still eth0 through pppO )and came up at boot. What I observ now, is : a. I stop the firewall; b. do one ipchain instruction ( ipchains -A fwd -s ..... -b -j MASQ ) to mask my internal net; an then the connection to the internet blocks after some time (30 min ) So my questions are : 1. Is there some timing, relaunching the firewall? ( because to reconnect to internet I restop the firewall and redo ipchains ) 2. What do I have to change in my firewall settings ? eth0 in ppp0 or having them both. Attached is the config file firewall.rc.config thanks in advance, Filip

Hi, I am trying to find out if something should be possible if so I can invest the time to make it work. I use 7.0 on a dell laptop at home (modem and dial-up) and also at work (lan). I need to be able to log on to a novell server at another office using dhcp and a different login name and password than the ones I use on my own machine (the work logins are the same). We use static IPs at work. Is this something I can do via schemes at boot up. I do not need to share my system at teh other place - simply access server files and printer. TIA Francesco

cd rom on Toshiba Sat Pro not recognized

Hi all, I've put Suse 6.4 on a Satellite Pro 400 CDT and the cd rom worked pretty much fine during instillation, but now seems to not want to work. It seems to be set as hdc and I tried specifying this in lilo.conf as hdc = cdrom as suggested in the manual, but that didn't work. Nor did cdrom = /dev/hdc Yast still sees it as CD-ROM ATAPI EIDE /dev/hdc [NOT OK] Any furher work arounds I can use to sort this out? -- Cheers Bruce Scharlau Prints & Maps http://www.scharlau.co.uk
