hello i have a ICL 486/66mhz with 32mb ram that i would like to install as my router/firewall with a DMZ, in the motherboard i have four ISA slots, ISA slot 1 eth16i irq=9 io=2a0 ISA slot 2 cdrom irq=5 io=300 ISA slot 3 3c509b irq=10 io=310 ISA slot 4 3c509b irq=11 io=320 o as you can see i do not seem to have any IRQ or IO conflicts in between nor with the rest of the system, now when i installed all the cards and loaded them through yast, the system just is not able to detect the cards!, as i read the suse manuals i found out that for the 3COM cards its recommended to double the paramters in the modules.conf file and so i did option 3x509 irq=10,11 io=310,320 after i did that and i restarted the network it found all three network cards and assigned the appropriate IP addresses, BUT... after i rebooted the system, it began to messup so that first it loaded the wrong gateways and masks for the different IP interfaces resulting in one interface having an ip address and then the second interface would have the the mask and gateway!! i checked in rc.config that the configurations are correct and so they were but still i was getting these results, i then looked into the different configuration files (modules.conf & rc.config) and tried to cahnge the configurations but in vain, after a couple of reboots, at bootup i begun to get error messages that there is an ioaddress error and due to that it couldnt load the modules for the network cards, i checked the IRQ, and the IO addresses and they are correct and there arent any duplicates, o i thought maybe my hardware was dead so i transffered the cards and the harddrive to an similar box with the same configurations but i still experienced the same things o now i ask the gurus out there if anyone out there could give me a hint on where things are goin wrong so i can setup my systems, awaitting for some assistance regards Mat -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe(a)suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help(a)suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq

[SLE] Yast2 "use entire hard disk" option

The new Yast2 that comes with v7.0 has a very useful sounding 'use entire hard disk' option and in fact the helpful booklet quick installation guide suggests that partioning the hard disk yourself shouldn't be attempted. I was just wondering what partitions yast2 would make for me by default if I selected the 'use entire hard disk' option and pointed it to my newly installed 18Gb harddisk. Would it make separate partitions for /boot, /swap and /home? [SLE] new install - xfree 4.0.1 and nvidia geforce2

[SLE] sendmail & fetchmail

Is this a silly question. Why do I need to have sendmail running to use fetchmail. I send by smtp only (one machine sseveral servers) but cannot get fetchmail to work unless sendmail is also running. Is there a way round this? nvidia refuse to open source their drivers, which is why I don't buy their products as I know they'll always be months behind when it comes to Linux. k. Hi I am trying to compile dia 0.86 on suse 6.4 and two libraries are out of date - gnlibd and gtxpixd. dia seems to need 2.1.0 of libart and 1.8.0 of gtx_pixmap. Where can I obtain latest versions compatible with Suse? If I use standard gnu libraries, I gather the locations differ - what is entailed in tailoring them to suse? [SLE] upgrading apache 1.3.6 to 1.3.12 error

Hello All I am using SuSE62, I have a problem, today i was downloading apache.rpm mod_ssl.rpm mod_php4.rpm from ftp.suse.com on release 6.4, after i installed thereis no errors, but when i was try to running apache #rcapache restart i got error like this starting service httpdstartproc usage: startproc [+/-<prio>] [-s] [-u uid] [-g gid] [-v] [-l log_filed|-q] /full/path/tp/program failed. and the apache can't running, what should i do, cause i didn't any documentasi to solve the problem any some idea..??? regard adjiebond __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? [SLE] SuSE 7.0 & incredibly long threads concerning it

Okay folks, I have been reading all of this traffic about whether or not SuSE is evil and mean for raising the price of their product, and/or not providing the FTP version fast enough to supplicate those who feel that they shouldn't have to pay for the value-adds SuSE provides. Anyway, I don't really plan to take sides in that particular schism, but I would like to raise the point of WHY people upgrade. I would like to ask (rhetorically) why one needs the upgrade to 7.0 Is there something that is so critical within your use of the distro that you must update it now? If so, why are you waiting on SuSE, go update that package yourself. The compiler isn't THAT scary. Are there enough changes all over the distro to justify a major system overhaul to get to the new version? I doubt it. Most people are (as Micro$oft taught them to do) just blindly grabbing any new version of whatever software they use, because it is new, not because it has specific needed upgrades in it. I say this simply because I have been guilty of the same thing. I have more than once incapacitated a production machine of mine simply because I wanted the highest number version of whatever distro I was using at the time. I have found that it is much better, at least for serious use of a machine, to get the latest STABLE distro of your choice when you first set the machine up, and from then on, only update individual packages and programs, as they need it. I have been practicing this plan since around the time SuSE 6.2 came out, having bought several distros previous to that, and I can tell you, this way is much simpler. Anyway, just some thoughts from a guy who rambles too much.
