[SLE] sendmail question

Hello Linux folkz. Looks like my previous question didn't get through the mailing list. I'm recending it again . . . Every time when I'm starting smtpd I'm getting this message in /var/log/warn: sendmail[3241]: daemon could not open control socket /var/run/sendmail.control: Group writable directory What does it mean and how to fix it? [SLE] ISDN TA

Hi all, Does anyone have any suggestions of ISDN TAs for use in the UK? Yes, I can look through the compatibility list, but I was wondering if anyone has any good/bad experience with particular adapters or makes of adapter. Any suggestions at all appreciated (hoping to buy within the next week...). Second question - I'm intending to use a 486 DX/33 with 24M of RAM as the router. Will this be able to cope with the bandwidth requirements? It will also be running caching DNS and full mail server... You say you did: > amit: # ~ mount /dev/hda1/windows If this is really what you wrote then it is wrong; there's supposed to be a space between /dev/hda1 and /windows. If it was just in this mail you missed the space, then obviously there is something wrong in your configuration, I have been doing this in SuSE 6.3, 6.4, 7.0 and lots of other Linux distributions so I know that it works...:o) Ok, you got Win 95 or 98? on /dev/hda1 Is SuSE on the same harddisk? The mountpoint /windows is in 'the' root: '/' not '/root', right? The line in /etc/fstab should work, but another possibility is to try: /dev/hda1 /windows auto default,noauto,user 0 0 If that doesn't work: /dev/hda1 /windows auto default 0 0 If none of this works then you have to give a more detailed description of your harddisk and what kind of Windows you got and what filesystem you run it on. [SLE] Lin4Win

Hi, In the UK magazine Personal Computer World, it mentions Lin4Win from http://www.trelos.com as an alternative to Wine or VMWare for running Windows programmes. The bane of my life is having to boot to Win98 to run Quicken as I have had no success with either Wine or VMWare. Does anyone have any experience of Lin4Win they could share? [SLE] vnc question

Until I can figure out the mechanics of xdm, I've given up on the incantations of Xaccess and so on to run my networked systems from _this_ console. vnc seems like the next-best-thing {TM}, but I'd much rather run GNOME or KDE. Is there a way of using these environments rather than the default twm? Or can I exec xlogin via vnc? thanks for any tips, gary -- Gary D. [SLE] interesting problems, 7.0

I've got two things bugging me with 7.0 at the moment, ones rather minor but it's nice to have is the ****'s when entering passwords in the KDM logon screen and I can't recall what I changed back in 6.4 to make them work. The other problem is a bit more difficult and is in a few parts. I'm using a Viper V770 board but sax2 is detecting it as an nvidia thus using the nv driver, why is that? The other problem is that using this driver doesn't allow me to get the same resolutions (upto 1600x1200 @ 65k or 1280x1024 @ 32bit). The last problem is more serious which is that windows are leaving imprints all over the desktop screen when using this setup, ie: netscape leaves weird images of itself in the original position if I move the window to a new position, thats one example, but it's happening with several other windows as well. [SLE] Mail Sizes

Obviously the gentleman didn't mean to send a 1.7MB email to the whole SuSE news group. My question is, is there some option in fetchmail that would prevent the download of messages, say over 10K (arbitrary), and leave them on my ISP's server until I have the time to download them on my 56K dialup connection? Some sort of "download small, leave big" option? --- Christopher W.
