running rpm -U kbase2-1.94-0.i386.rpm gets: error: failed dependencies libXm.so.1 is needed by kbase2-1.94-0.i386.rpm I don't see this file in any of the 6.4 cd's. [SLE] Still Notebook Shopping, but now looking at Dell 5000e.

Hi everyone, I just got back from a short vacation, and have a fresh batch of notebook questions. Mainly, as far as compatibility goes, I'm thinking in terms of SuSE 6.4, but if there is some non-SuSE patch or SuSE 7.0 supports it - please let me know. I adjusted my budget up a bit, and am looking at the 5000e with the PIII 750, 128 megs SDRAM, 10 gig HD, 32x Modular CD-ROM, (FREE!) 2nd 59 WHR battery, ATI Rage Mobility 128 16MB video card, ESS Maestro 2E (IIRC, the same as Canyon 3D) sound card, and the Internal (Win?)modem. I'm assuming that the Winmodem isn't going to work all too well with Linux, but what I hope to do is use it when in Windows, and resort to a PC-Card modem when in Linux (there is no option for an internal hardware modem). Any problems I should know about having two modems in one machine? Also, from what I can tell the ESS Maestro 2E is supported by ALSA - however, does anyone know if it has MIDI-synth support (i.e. playing .mid files without using something like TiMidity)? And, less linux-specific - does anyone know if it supports four speaker surround sound (like the Desktop version)? Finally, does the ATI Rage Mobility 128 2x AGP 3d video card with 16 MB SGRAM have any problems with XFree? I don't know if I just had too much time on my hands or waited patiently for the 'MSU v Missouri' game tonight but I went through the list of US retailers on SuSE's site and looked at the sites of: http://www.chumbo.com and http://www.softwarebuys.com They are mightily alike?! Then I compared their prices and they are of course NOT the same for SuSE Pro 7.0. [SLE] Galeon (and Java again)

On previous suggestions I decided I would try Galeon as I still can't get many Java sites to work with Navigator 4.75. On the surface I love it's simplicity. However, I get nothing when I try the IPIX virtual tours at http://www.thelessers.com. Java and Javascript are enabled in Galeon. This is the 3rd or 4th time that I've brought IPIX up but I still haven't received any helpful advice on getting it to work with Netscape (it used to with 4.72), Mozilla, or Galeon. If somebody can view the IPIX tours above can they please tell me their exact setup with regards to browser version and any Java add-ins? In the long run I think Galeon is going to be great. [SLE] VMware problem

I'm running the 30 day trial download of VMware 2.02, and I can't get it to see my IDE CD-ROM drive, or my Win98 d: and e: drives. All it sees is the Win98 c: drive. Also, it only displays 16 colors in Win98, and it doesn't see my modem. Is the 30 day trial demo crippleware, or am I doing something wrong here? I'm having VMware access an lready installed Win98 on a separate partition, rather than Win98 installed from within VMware. [SLE] KDE2-Konq?

Hello all.. I know I am the Gnome advocate, but I am wondering how to start Konq by itself..w/ out KDE2 running. I was told you could and it just bitched at me..and none of the Netscape plugins worked. Well, I finally found how to get KDE2 to come up with my SuSE64. Looks good and is a bit different than the plain(er) kde. Now, does anyone know how to turn on the sound? I went through the menus that allows you to tick the sounds you want, but they don't work when you do something. Like signing in for example. That beautiful sound with KDE is selected for KDE2 and no sir - nothing is heard. Also, all the other little sounds like resizing etc. etc.. I ran the 'tests' that were there and they worked. So, somewhere there must be a button to click that turns it all on (or off). Dear College, I can not found any solution for the clicks listen to mp3. I set out below a brief hardware and software description of my PC: processor: AMDK7 ATHLON 600MHz main board: QDI KINETIZ 7A (BIOS V1.1LC) memory: 64M sound card: SB PCI 128 (Creative) hard drives: 4,3GB (connect as a primary master) and 8,4GB (connect as a primary slave), UDMA66 CD: Toshiba XM-6702B (connect as a secondary master) Operating system: Linux SUSE6.3 (kernel 2.2.16) boot system: loadlin mp3 ripper: CDPARANOIA mp3 encoder: bladeenc mp3 player: Kmp3, mp3blaster At the beginning I had installed the kernel 2.2.13, precompiled with AMD support included in SUSE 6.3, and I loaded the driver ES1371 as a module. When I got the new kernel 2.2.16, I compiled the ES1371 driver into the Kernel. In both cases the effect is the same. You can listen to clicks sometimes playing mp3 music. There is no problem at all playing CD music. There is no problem when I use audiocatalyst and winamp in windows. I remember that before I have got the AMDK/7 and the QDI KINETIZ 7A I had a Cyrix P166 and a AI5TH main board, and the same linux system in the same hard disk that now, but you could listen to mp3 music without clicks. The only method that I have found to avoid this problem seems to be start win98 and then close the system to start with a MSDOS mode. Then I start my linux system using loadlin. What is the reason why clicks disappear?. If you consider this method is the solution, could it be included some lines (drivers, ...) in my config.sys and autoexec.bat so that it was not necessary to start windows first?. Is linux making a bad SB128 initialization or too fast?. Why did I listen to mp3 better with my old Cyrix p166...?. Thanks in advance for your help. The eval version is the same as a full version, with a time restriction. Go to the VMWare website, and read the Installation and Configuration notes, specifically for a RAW DISK installation. What you are trying to do is probably the most trickiest install. Try reading this: http://www.vmware.com/support/reference/common/hardwareprofiles.html As for the 16 colors, VMWare uses the same resolution and color depth as your xfree86 settings. BUT it will only do 16 colors until you install VMTools on your guest OS (win98). Read the docs on how to do this, but it is relatively simple. Yes, I installed the beta 4 packages in the order prescribed by the kde.org installation page. First 'support' and then 'libs' prior to the 'base' package.
