i've been configuring diald to work with wvdial for a while now and i
still can't get it to work. the problem is that i get disconnected
after 20 seconds.
basically, my wvdial works - i run it on the command line and i can go
online - no problem. however, if i use it with diald, it times out
after 20 seconds. the following is my wvdial.conf file:
[Dialer Defaults]

my diald.conf file is as follows:

I have an adptec 2940uw host adpter. my problem comes when i'm trying to
compile for module support. The scsi adapter is compiled hard into the
kernel as i run scsi disks. if i try to compile the kernel for module
support but not set anything up as modules and then compile the kernel.
the compile works fine. do the standard make modules and install modules.
reboot the machine, just after it reset's the scsi bus it would get
something looking for a second scsi host but none is present. at this
point it stops rebooting with a message about swapper not present.
as soon as i take the modules out and rebuild and reboot no problems. I
don't use modules at all but i'm trying to set up sound with the OSS
driver and it needs the module thing compiled in the kernel.
Any ideas on this one.

Printing from my linux machine through a win print server stopped working.
I've configured it to configure printer trough samba (or similar wording) in
yast. It worked for a few days than it stopped working. It doesn't give an
error or anything it just doesn't print.
Could it be the samba configuration???

I've finally gotten past a maddening problem in attempting to build
gfontview. It seems that gfontview uses c++, which is equivalent to
g++, which works (at least as configured under SuSE 6.2) only if egcs
is installed.
So what is egcs? How does it relate to gcc? And why does c++ use
egcs rather than gcc?
I love Linux, but one of the frustrating things about the source
distributions it relies on is how sensitive the build process is to
obscure details about the versions of installed compilers.

On startup KDE seems to restart programs which were running during the previous
shutdown. This is not an unreasonable behavior but I would rather have it just
start programs I've put in the Autostart folder. Is there a way to change to
this style or is the restart of all running programs built in?

Ok, I tried to run something at boot (boot.local), with one problem. It
seems that it was running before the network drivers were loaded. I need
this daemon to run at runlevel 2(?), whichever is the last one it reaches
before it drops you to the login prompt.
TIA

Hi,
I use wvdial to make a PPP-connection.
But I want to execute some shell scripts at each
connection (fetching mails for example). Can anyone
explain me how I could do such a thing ?. I also want
to make the connection dockabble under Window Maker.
Thanks
Francois
