[SLE] Ok, I know this sounds stupid

ok, I still new to linux so I dont know what is wrong with this or how to fix it. I have a sound blaster live and I am trying to set it up.. well I loaded the right package em10k.. something or other.. and then I went to /usr/lib/ em10k, you know where the script is and ran the install script.. I am work now and cant remember every thing exactly but I know I did this part right.. now here is where we get to the wired part. when I run the script i get an error message and I have no idea what is wrong. I am guessing that I am missing some lib of some sort but Im not sure. the error is with line for which is a "if "statement and it says something like unrecognized operator or character (not sure which now) "[" so I vi the file and take out the [ from line four.. I grasping at straws if you cant tell. that did not work, so I put the file back and thought I would write you fine folks on monday morning if the world didnt end ;-) laters Ron -- Ron Morgan jr. [SLE] wvdial woes (thought I'd start that subject again)

Hello all and happy new year! If you remember (if not that's okay) a couple of weeks ago I posted a problem with wvdial/pppd. I followed the suggestions about the resolve.cof and everything. Now I can get wvdial to work and keep a connection when run as root, but when run as a user (which I might add, has access to the modem and is part of the dial up group) it connects and pppd starts, a few seconds later pppd dies with error 16 (Modem hangup according to man pppd). Any ideas? As I said, if I run wvdial as root the connection is okay and doesn't die. [SLE] masq and routing with 6.3

ok, in a little bit of a bind here. i've been using SuSE for a while now, and the last time i had to set it up as a router, all that needed to be done was to specify ip_forward as yes. but that doesn't seem to be working. i noticed that there is an option in the in networking section of the kernel config. what actually needs to be done now to set up a 6.3 box as a router? [SLE] Starting MySQL Automatically

Hello I use Suse 6.2 . I installed MySQL. MySQL server doesn't start automatically. I have to run " mysqld & " command. I read manuals and they say that I should put "mysql.server" file into starting files direcory. Where should I put mysql.server file ? Please help me ? [SLE] What is VM and why is it killing my httpd?

Hi list, I found that my apache and sendmail weren't running anymore. After a short inspection of my syslog, I ran into these: Jan 2 01:01:12 suse kernel: VM: killing process httpd Jan 2 01:01:36 suse kernel: VM: killing process httpd Jan 2 01:01:36 suse kernel: VM: killing process sendmail Jan 2 01:01:36 suse kernel: VM: killing process httpd What is VM, and why did it kill httpd and sendmail? I do run a logrotater of my httpd only (no sendmail logs). After the log-mailing, it sighups my httpd. But that occurs at 00:00, not an hour later... [SLE] Y2K Bug in File Runner?

[SLE] Linux Client Machine

Hi all, I'am running a SuSe 6.0 Linux server for two (2) Win98 machines. Now I want to connect a SuSe 6.0 Linux client to this server. I have the following questions: - Do I need to make a new user on the server with the same name as the client machine - Do I need to make a user on the client machine (root is default offcourse) - How do I connect to the Linux server, in a way that every user can login on the server, and if this is possible will the whole servers /home dir be tranfered to the client machine. (or is this only possible by mounting (NFS) the client's /home dir on the server. - If the above is true, can the client run for example Netscape without actual install the Netscape programm on the client machine. I have read the whole NIS HOWTO, but I'am not sure this is the right programm, for the above. Any suggestion, or comments are welcome. Thanks, and rgd. [SLE] Auto Dial to ISP

Hello all I was having a look around the web for dialling stuff and came across a product called x-isp. It quite easy to set up and is a x-windows dialler. There's a lot of stuff that I don't understand but some of you X-Guru's may find it usefull. The message I read about it is that it can be configured to auto dial, I remember someguys on this list looking at trying to auto dial with Wvdial. This may be a solution. [SLE] FAX Server

I have a Novell Server that was intended to run besides the GroupWise a Fax Software. After messing with Tobit and Cheyenne Fax Serve (both requiring too much attention) I am looking for Ideas on Linux. Anyone know how I could have Faxing with Windoze and maybe MAC (asking too much) which allows central receiving and distribution? Regards, Jon Jon R. [SLE] SuSEFax java problems!

Hello, When I open up Phone Book in SuSE Fax, two buttons are missing, "Serial Faxes" and "Send Faxes". And half of the "Sort" button is gone too. Though I can still click on it at least. I installed fresh from SuSE 6.2 Any Java pros out there, who might know what's going on. And how to fix it. SuSE doesn't seem to support this program. Zero patches.
