[SLE] Network Setup

I am attempting to setup @Home with Suse 6.3. I have made some progress. I am at a loss to complete my setup and need some help. The ethernet card is recognized at eth0 according to the boot.msg log and the network configuration has been setup as TCP/IP with Yast. I can ping out loads of packets but get back nothing in return to the test. I am at a loss to find the problem. Is the problem related to the route table? All sugguestions are appreciated. Hi, I think George is right, NS would wait for a long time. Although I've never used one there are proxys that will filter this out. I remember hearing about something called junkbuster that is supposed to do this, perhaps someone who knows more will chime in. [SLE] Kernel compile freezes computer

hi all, just got a new p3 500 and 6.3 for x-mas. whenever i try to recompile the kernel, it freezes.. sometimes at make bzImage some times at make modules. it freezes to the point of needing to pull the plug. and it does it both at a console and while in X (kde) anyone have any ideas why this is doing this? any help would be greatly appreciated! [SLE] gimp crashes with message?

Hello Linux folks! GIMP 1.1 is crashing every time with the following message: /usr/lib/gimp/1.1/plug-ins/script-fu : Segmentation fault caught /usr/lib/gimp/1.1/plug-ins/script-fu (pid:2457) : [E]xit, [H]alt, show [S]tack trace or [P]roceed Who knows what does it mean and how to fix it? Fire up windoze , and see if its in the monitor.inf file definitions, should find the vert and horz rates there. [SLE] Where are the Texinfo files?

The man pages for a number of Gnu utilities, e.g., cp and mcopy, indicate that the authoritative information is to be found in the Texinfo files. Where are these files located in a standard SuSE distribution? And what's the easiest way to look at them? I thought I'd spawn this question into a new thread so the original query doesn't get lost. O.K. now I have a question about reject vs deny. The way I understand it, if a connection is rejected, the firewall has to reply to the remote machine making the request, whereas deny will not send a reply and simply discard the packet. Is that correct? If so, then rejecting connections opens the machine to DoS attacks (particularly one spoofing their IP) which makes deny look like the more attractive option. Perhaps reject is better for machines inside the firewall and deny for those on the outside? [SLE] Ipchains/Firewall

I have an extremely weird problem. This is the rule I am using: ipchains -A input -j DENY -p tcp -l -s 0.0.0.0/0 -i eth0 -d 192.168.1.4/32 53 ipchains -A input -j DENY -p udp -l -s 0.0.0.0/0 -i eth0 -d 192.168.1.4/32 53 This is to deny access to anyone on eth0 (the internet) to my name server but allow it from 192.168.1.4. Now the problem is. That it ignores the rule. Everyone can still access the nameserver.
