I don't know if this is the right answer, but I have had a few major gimp problems. Everytime I have had to completely clean gimp from the system, including local gimp directories and files; then a re-install seems to work fine. The case is scheduled to go to court Jan. 14. The software, called DeCSS, allows users to unlock the security code on DVDs and copy movies to personal computers that dont have the DVDs decryption keys. The association alleges that distributing either the software or the codes is an unauthorized use of the groups trade secrets. But many site programmers who posted the program said they were simply providing software to play DVDs on computers with Linux operating systems. People have a legal right to play the materials that theyve already purchased in a different format, said Tara Lemmey, president of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, a San Francisco-based nonprofit organization that seeks to protect civil liberties and free speech on the Internet. The lawsuit, however, says protecting the DVD encryption technology is critical to the future of DVDs. Without such copy protection, the motion picture companies would not have allowed their copyrighted motion pictures to be available in this new digital video format, the lawsuit says. Courts have repeatedly found that consumers can make personal copies of material they have purchased, such as copying a music compact disc onto a cassette tape. [SLE] SuSE 6.3 ide.c kinda sorta patched

It's my understanding from the following thread the ide.c code is "kinda sorta" patched. I'm unclear on where to insert this code. Has this patch been officially released? I'm installing 6.3 for the first time on a 486 ISA only system. You are right, that is what it was. Although the Network setup in YAST was set to use DHCP, the client was not set to start in the configuration settings. [SLE] ne2k-pci woes

Hello all, I installed a clean SuSE 6.3 onto my development system and am trying to get the network card working. The card is a RealTek 8029, which should use the ne2k-pci driver. Yast sets this up, but the driver is not loaded when the machine starts. If I enter modprobe ne2k-pci The module loads OK, and I can then enter lsmod and see it in the list. if I then enter ifconfig -a, I can see eth0 in the list of interfaces, but no addresses are specified, etc. Any ideas? I just got myself a new Asus mb with an athlon processor. I swapped the mb, thought it would be easy in Windows 98, but was a bit worried about linux: would the kernel run as is (replacing a k62 333)? would I have to recompile? I swapped MBs, and booted in win98; which insisted on redetecting everything (Yamaha soundcard, Asuscom isdn card, network card, adaptec SCSI card, Terratec TV card, AGP I740), and was very creative in figuring out new resource conflicts. After spending most of one day on it, in which I could not get my 8mb video card to work at more than 640x480 in 16 colours, I was fed up and decided to try Linux (incidentally, the ISA ISDN card is a good case study: the advice you usually get for linux is "set it up in win, check the resources it uses, and then define the same (by hand) in Linux", and surprise surprise, the machine booted fine , except for the ISDN card. A PNPdump and some isapnp.conf editing later, I was back online. I am still struggling to resolve that AGP conflict in windows.
