Can Ben Rosenberg and all those others who keep complaining about the so-called Non-OS Windows be deleted from this list??? I joined this list to learn more about Linux, not to learn about things that Windows does or doesn't or does better or thinks it can do better! Please?? Hello again + question about BitchX & ncurses

Hello I was once subscribed to this list, but due to problems with my mail account and that I was going to change my ISP, I unsubscribed. Now I've changed my ISP and my mailbox works fine, so I'm here again :-) As I said the last time, sorry if my English is not perfect. I'm from Spain no English is not my native language. I'm sure there are more non native English-speakers in this list ;-) so probably I'm telling you something you already knew. I use S.u.S.E 5.3 and I'm trying to "transfer" everything from windows to linux. I want to make sure that everything works under linux before doing the "transfer". Now that I have introduced myself... the question :-) I want to install BitchX on my machine, so the first thing I did is to look among the packages in the SuSe CD. I found that BitchX wasn't there, so I decided to download it from www.bitchx.com. I downloaded, ungzipped and untared a file with the name "BitchX+Tcl-75p3-Linux-glibc2-i386.tgz". When I try to execute BitchX, it says that it needs libncurses 3.4. On my system I only have libncurses 3.0 (which come with the distribution CDs) so I also decided to download libncurses from FreshMeat. There I found libncurses 5.0 beta. I have tried to compile them following the instructions (that is, making "./configure" and "make install"), but the libraries still don't appear in my "/lib" directory and therefore BitchX doesn't run. How could I solve the problem. I have tried repeatedly to remove myself from this list. Hopefully the list administrator will see this post and remove me? The instructions from the bot seem to not work very well, so now I have to spam the list in hopes that this will be noticed, and my account removed. The reason I am removing myself from the list is because I filter the traffic by subject into folders. But it seems that this list likes to randomly change the [suse-linux-e], [s-l-e], and now [SLE] thing. Since I do not do my email every 10 minutes, I usually end up with 100 posts in my inbox because mail filters don't automagically change with the mailing list headers. That makes it rather difficult to sift through my non-linux related emails. And then the unsubscribe link doesn't unsubscribe you. Argh. I remember there being a compatibility problem between earlier versions of Dave and Samba 1.9.?, as a result you should run Samba >2.0. We'll burn that bridge after we cross it :-) Tim

I currently run an AMD K-6/400 with 256mb RAM, I have an 8.2GB HDD as primary and an old 1.2GB as a secondary. I decided to try out vmware just to see how powerful it could be, and also because I did not feel up to figuring out wine. I was very impressed, now you could assume that my being impressed is because I have a lot of RAM and a fairly decent processor. True.. I did not see any degrading of performance using NT (I allocated 96mb of RAM and 1GB of HDD space for NT) I have yet to have a problem... (Knock on very large piece of wood) The network set up flawlessly between the vmware NT and the NT box I have for burning CD's and scanning. (Sorry.. no SCSI CDRW or Scanner devices.. AKK!) If you have to work on a Micro$oft project I would highly suggest checking out vmware.. or if you are a die hard Micro$oft fan.. and just have to have your daily dose of M$ to get your heart going... Then try this out.. The only thing I do not like about vmware is the price. No.. I am not suggesting it should be free. I feel that the initial special offering of $75 should hold as the permenant price.. (IMHO!) So give it a try.. heck it has a 30 day tryout license. I don't think you will be unhappy. Hi James, I'm testing VMWare on SuSE 6.1 and runs just fine. I'm actually very impressed, installation was easy and it all worked first time. I'm curious to know if anybody has done anything with vmware on diskless workstations. all in all a very nice product, the market might be a bit slim but if it proves usable in a slim client environment, that would be very exciting. Hi, I was wondering if anyone else has tried VMware for linux yet? I bought it (the intro price $75), But didn't want to install it until I got a bigger hard drive, upgraded KDM, and do some other stuff. If you have tried it, how does it run under SuSE? Also, I looked around Xfree86.org, but couldn't find the answer. What's the difference in 3.4 and 3.3.1, Is it just a bigfix release? Thanks James bond225(a)tiac.net
