Hi all I want to setup a Linux box as a mailserver. I have an ISP that provides UUCP for the internetmail, and on the LAN I have SMTP/POP3-clients (m$outlook) The LAN part work fine, but how can I invoke the UUCP-dialer when a user sends an email to anyone(a)another.company.com, and how can I redirect incoming mail to employee(a)my.company.com to the correct local user? Or, is there a program that support all three protocols? Greetinx and Thanx in advance, Hans Bouwers

I purchased a copy after hearing about it on this list ...Ratchel et al ... It works perfectly on SuSE 6.1 and Redhat 6.0 you need a reasonable amount of disk psace depending on how big you want the virtual ide drive to be I'm not sure about KDM I run WindowMaker and it works perfectly! It comes with a selection of accelerated X servers for the most popular configurations... you do need a reasonable spec machine .. on the 'manual' that comes with it mentions pentium 266 as the lowest spec! empty PID file

Hi Folks, As usual, I was playing around with my basic 6.0 SuSE installation and I typed shutdown (as root) from an xterm window while KDE was running. During the list of shutdown messages, I saw a new one- hutdown service at daemon: killproc: Empty PID file /var/run/atd.pid for /usr/sbin/atd failed I understand that the AT daemon is something like cron but only runs at start-up. My question is - What is supposed to be in the file? and how can I correct it? I am not certain this next is related, but... I have another problem that started at the same time. No matter what user logs on, when KDE starts you can select all the items in the menus, but no command or program is executed nor is there any error message (like no permission etc). The only exception is when I log on as root. Then, everything works as it is supposed to work. Once again thanks, Rod p.s. in a few decades, and after I have gained some skill at Linux, I promise I won't bug you guys with stupid questions and I may even be able to answer a few.

Stopping telnet?

Howdy SuSE folks, I have a security question for you. My gateway is currently serving telnet to the outside world. Now only two people out of the local-net actually have access. I would like to kill the telnet daemon on that machine, and (if poss) use SSH instead. The gateway will go from being also a public access machine to JUST a gateway, and any connections received on port 23 will be forwarded to a machine inside the network which is not publicly routable. One might say that is closing one security hole and opening another, but the machine inside the local net will have more security, and plus I can severe it from the network without taking the rest of the network out. Thanks for your help! ps. I didn't get the cd-rom&soundcard to work, so invested in a $39.95 40x cd-rom drive instead. :) Thanks to everyone that responded though, it was a real comfort! Check out the cable modem FAQ and do some digging on dejanews, freshmeat, etc. I just got Road Runner, found out about rrdhcpd and rrlogind, downloaded the package, configured with rrconf, started rrdhcpd and rrlogind and was high speed surfing in about 15 minutes. boot problem - solved

Well, thanks everyone who responded with help. Here's how I fixed everything. For those of you not following this thread, the problem began with kernel 2.2.10. I had recompiled it for the umpteenth time and all of a sudden LILO wouldn't boot anymore. I was able to boot from an older 2.2.10 boot floppy. No amount of wrangling around I could try was allowing me to get things back to normal. Finally I went into /usr/src and typed: rm -r linux. Installed kernel 2.2.10 again and recompiled from scratch and LILO works again. Why I couldn't recompile with the existing 2.2.10 is a mystery - apparently it somehow got corrupted!?! Anyway, all is well. David Bellows
