Just wanted to let everyone know that I finally stuck with the Linux thing. Good thing too! My firewall is running A LOT faster. Just hope someone will answer my 2 questions. I can't print with suse 6.1

Hi friends, I was able to print with my Hp500C since linux SuSE 5.3 to 6.0, but now, I can't do it with my new suse 6.1. Why? My Printer is in /dev/lp1 (lpt1 in win) and works fine in windows. I made /etc/printcap with yast. I believe that linux don't see my printer because I have this message in status "waiting for lp to become ready (offline)?". Network problems (The never ending story...)

Hello SusE Folks, Well, I finally got myself another network card today for the new machine. However, I can't seem to get it to see the rest of the network or the gateway. :( This is how the network is currently set up: [3 machines]--------[SuSE box]---[modem]----**Internet** | (hub) I tried to ping several machines on the network (with their ips') but get 100% packet loss, and no lights flash on the hub. Ok, this is the last thing I will say on the subject. If you notice the :P at the end of the message I was being sarcastic towards a thread that ran a few months ago. I am not smug towards virus's, I believe every Windows user should have an antivirus program with up to date .dat files. An if because I made a comment that I will bash crapware on a private list if I do it in the rare instance and people can not deal with it then proc filter me out. I mean no harm to anyone and people can run whatever they like, I could care less. I just won't be told not to make comparisions when I am not making them...simple..to the point no BS. I have no malice towards anyone and I won't be the focal point of some " lets get rid of people who don't like MS " I have been an active member of this list for many months, and I will continue to be. I try to help people where I can and be productive. I don't like how some list newbie singles me out in his mail and starts a really unproductive thread at my expense. If those in power want me to leave to the regulars do then fine I would. But if you have been around for a bit you know that I try to help and that I don't do extesive M$ bashing. I do lots of advocacy work here in St. Louis for Linux..etc..etc. Don't try to run me out on a rail cause that's just rude as hell. Please could someone tell me the contents of a diskette after I have tar'd a given directory to it twice. Does the second tar automatically overwrite the first or does it create another file on the diskette? How can I tell? I've tried tvf (if my memory still works) and it showed a single archive. I recall having to reformat the diskette each time to ensure it contained the required data. Thanks, T.

hi, Is anyone else thinking of getting a Penguin tattoo??? My wife is going out of town in 2 weeks. I thought I'd get one then. Or maybe the Penguin on one arm and the SuSE Lizard on the other.
