[SuSE Linux] SuSE 5.3 standard ide kernely w/out ppp support?

This was a strange one for me. I had installed several vanilla suse kernels before rolling my own and I always found ppp support compiled in the standard kernels. Was this changed? I usually hopped into kde and grabbed xisp or wvdial and then went on to removing kde and using fvwm. This time was different. PPP was installed but not in the kernel as any ppp session said the kernel lacked ppp support. Any thots? -- Michael E. Hi, Just a short one to say hi. I am new to the list. I have been "playing" with Linux for about three years off and on. I have decide to get serious with it and have selected the suse dist. It seems to have better tools than the others I have tried. Am posting this with windoze as I haven't yet gotten my ppp, diald, etc etc etc to work yet, but will, just need to wade through it I guess. This is probably a very elementary question but I haven't had any luck finding the answer. If I want to include a web site in a posting and have it linked with a click of the mouse back to the real site, how do I do it? [SuSE Linux] Setting up aliases for my computer

I am currently running SuSE 5.2 and I need to set up my ftp server with two DNS names. I want the outside world to see ftp.jrc-utah.com while inside it can be greedo or ftp. I know there is a command to set up eth0 to respond to 2 names, but I can not find the info how to set it up. [SuSE Linux] pictures in kdm

Hi, how do I set the picture for each user in the kdm displaymanager ? What kind of format and size? Where do I put the files? Thanks for your insight! I'll check on that 'bootable image' situation. I regularly have my /boot mount point somewhere on /hda, but the location of the bootable image 'may' be the source of my error 0x01's. I'm not certain on this but Redhat may be placing their /boot directory as /dev/hda1. Which will make it always work. They also like to put their bootable image in /boot instead of /. So the bootable image is always under the 1024 cylinder limit. I've had trouble with Redhat after using Suse for awhile. It seems Redhat uses modules foe everything, and it isn't easy to break out of their system. For instance, if you try to use the standard linux 2.0.36 kernel with Redhat, you will get alot of errors about "unresolved module dependencies". I also could not get my awe32 souncard to work with Redhat. The kernel menuconfig seems to "force" you to use OSSFREE, while I'm used to the standard way of doing it under SuSe, that is applying the patch, and making my own sound module. Try the documentation that comes with the rvplayer, there is something related to the environment variable called PATH. Once you modify it, be sure to move the files mentioned on the documentation (RAObserver.class and RAPlayer.class) to the apropiate directory, the documentation says some of them, first I tried to install it in one of them, and I got that error, I finally installed them in: /usr/local/lib/netscape/plugins AND ERASED the OTHER ONES !!!! because if I left them in /opt/netscape/plugins, they don't work !!! hope it helps ---Lawrence Sayre <lsayre(a)stratos.net> wrote: > > > I've installed RealAudio 5.0 and followed all of the installation > instructions, but when I try to receive a RealAudio broadcast I receive > an error #38, which states: > > "File compression not supported.
