Greetings! I am a Linux newbie and I am planning to change my current operating system to SuSE 5.2. I have an e-mail account with AOL and one with CompuServe. For those of you that use Linux, do any of you use AOL or CompuServe as a provider? I asked both companies if they had interface software for Linux and neither has. Do you use a Windows emulator (Wabi?)? Is there an Internet provider out there that is Linux friendly? If so, do they have nodes throughout the US? I'll need to log in via a 202 area code. I just chucked my antique 486 for a brand new computer with lots of fancy stuff. Have been able to get everything to work in SuSE but my Creative Sound Blaster AWE64. Compiled from MENUCONFIG and chose not to modularize sound so that I could enter the parameters. Pretty sure that I got all the latter correct. On bootup 'sound initialization successful' (or something positive like that) is reported. Yet, so far, nary a peep. I would dearly appreciate any suggestions. I am very disappointed not to be able to see what audio CDs sound like with my new setup. I am new to linux so please bear with me I have a dataflex v34 voicesurfer modem. I have no idea whether it is a winmodem or plug and pray. The documentation says its only for win95 but there are no drivers included with it. The modem is detected my dumppnp/pnpdump (I forget which) and identifies which modem it is. (make model etc) setserial -g ttyS0 tells me there is a uart 16550a device. In windows its com4, port 0x03f8 irq 4 I have edited isapnp.conf to relect this - still nothing Why does windows say com4 and setserial point to the equivalent of com1.
