new type of drive designation

Hey... I just got a new laptop, and I am in the process of setting up opensuse on it. For the moment it has tumbleweed, but I plan to set it up with 15.3. One thing I noticed is that the new hard drive nomenclature, or whatever you should call it, is different from what I am used to in the past. In the past the drives would be /dev/sda, /dev/sdb, etc. In this one, if I plug in a USB stick, the drive letter is /dev/sda. However, the NVMe SDD that I put in it was given the designation /dev/nvme0n1, with each partition being /dev/nvme0n1p1, /dev/nvme0n1p2, etc. This is the first time I have had an NVMe SSD, but when I set up the partitions for the install, I didn't know that it would give it these kinds of letters. Avatars in LDAP & SDDM

I have a Logitech sound system on the machine. It has very giid bass response. When I'm using YouTube, sound is fine. When I'm not viewing anything and YouTube is not active--i.e., from a fresh boot, or any other time, in general--there is a hum from the speaker system. Is there a fix for that? --doug

heat sink for m.2 form drive

I have just purchased this NVMe SSD to replace the stock SSD for my new laptop. One thing that stood out when I switched it in was that the stock m.2 NVMe SSD has like this dark grey silverish looking tape around it. I assume that is for heat dissipation. I couldn't find anything quite like that on line for the new SSD, so I purchased a kit that has a blue heat conducting silica gel pad and a copper plate that you put over each side, all in the m.2 size. I found a youtube video that showed the difference in heat on a chip with and without heat sink pads (not the same kind as I bought), and the difference was remarkable. One drawback I see is the copper plate being stuck there in the middle of my laptop, with pretty tight tolerances, and I am wondering if I should just stick with the silica gel pad. Anyone else have any experience with using these things? Any suggestions on how to proceed? I haven't installed the heat sinks yet - waiting to find out what others might have done. live usb stick with gnome

Could someone point me to where I can download an image to create a live USB stick in order to test run the latest distro? Specifically I want to see if I can test run the gnome desktop on both 15.3 and tumbleweed. I found this link: http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/leap/15.3/iso/ but I can't figure out which iso on that would be the right one. I remember a long time ago you used to be able to specifically download a live usb iso, but I haven't seen that on any of the opensuse websites lately. Thanks :)

ping: socket: Operation not permitted

My three computers have the Leap 15.3 operating system. On one of them, only root can invoke ping. When a normal user tries to do so, ping is not executed, but this error message is displayed: ping: socket: Operation not permitted What does it mean? Any remedy? Best regards, Wolfgang

zypper up insists on installing kernel-preempt and I can not remove it.

is it possible to tell YaST package manager to work on a different partition?
