Sound card configuration problem

I recently installed Leap 15.3 on my computers "hp" and "se" Configuring the sound cards by yast worked on "se" only, whereas on "hp" the following error message appears: ================================================================= An error occurred during the installation of GP107GL High Definition Audio Controller The kernel module snd-hda-intel for sound support could not be loaded. This can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters. ================================================================== The same for the other sound card, called "Cannon Lake PCH cAVS". How can I correct the kernel module snd-hda-intel and provide correct module, IO, or IRQ parameters? Thank you in advance for your help. Best regards, Wolfgang

Upgrade from Leap 15.1 to 15.2 Desktop Failure

Greetings, Just did an upgrade from my stable Leap 15.1 install to 15.2. I downloaded the DVD and did the upgrade from booting that. It asked me if I wanted to used the online repos as I have an internet connection so I said OK. Everything seemed to go well and booting into my KDE desktop. But clicking the gecko start menu gives an error. "Error loading QML file:file///sur/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.plasma.kicker/contents/ui/main.qml:27:1: module "org.kde.plasma.private.kicker: is not installed" The system is running and I see my desktop widgets doing their thing. But I can't do anything. I can get to tty1 and login as root but I don't know what to do from there. I tried running yast in tty1 but get errors when I try software management. This system was first installed with Leap 15.0, upgraded to 15.1, now to a partially broken 15.2. Any suggestions most welcome. Jim F

So I installed OS 15.3 o my new Lenovo Ideapad Duet 3. It went ok (later I will open new threads for different smaller prolbems). I let the installer overwrite all former partitions and used "encrypted system" within the installer. So I have /dev/mmcblk0 116.48 GiB mmcblk0p1 0.5 GiB Ext4 /boot/efi mmcblk0p2 29.47 GiB Ext4 / (encrypted) mmcblk0p3 78.94 GiB Ext4 /hme (encrypted) mmcblk0p4 7.57 GiB Swap encrypted When I switch on the device I get: Attempting to decrypt master key... Enter passphrase for hd0, gpt2 (hex nmber) I enter the passphrase I takes 50 seconds until the grub menu appears, ten it shows Started Plymouth Boot Screen. Forward Passworëto Plymouth Directory Watch. Reached targets Paths. Found device /dev/disk/by-long hex number Found device /dev/disk/by-long hex nmber Found device /dev/disk/by_uuid/hex number Starting Cryptography Setup for cr_root... Starting Cryptography Setup for cr_swap... Please enter passphrase for disk cr_swap:: [6.974882] usb 1-5: device descriptor read/64, error -71 I enter the passphrase again, and it boots. Something is wrong. Passphrase should be asked only once and the 50 seconds after the first enter are loooog. What can I do? cannot install OS on Lenovo Ideapad Duet 3

Hi, so just bought a small Lenovo Ideapad Duet 3. I want to replace Win with an Operating System, so I downloaded OpenSuse15.1 iso (15.1 because I have it on the other computers, to have the same). I used Suse Studio Image writer to write that ISO to an USB stick. - Start the pad so that the "Novo Button Menu" menu appears - select Boot Menu - select the stick, called "EFI USB Device (Philips USB Flash Drive)" - Opensuse Menu appears - Select Install - it says "Loading Kernel - loading initial Ram Disk" then a scrambled page filled with random characters appears after a while this disappears, the screen gets black, and nothing more happens :-( I tried with enabled and disabled secure boot. Signal desktop (electron) causes high CPU usage and lag

Hi, is anybody else experiencing high CPU usage and extremly long lags when typing messages in signal-desktop app (I am using Tumbleweed). multi-site private overlay networking (not? vpn)

Hi, all -- I would have called this a vpn, but after reading the recent [excellent] thread on what is or isn't vpn and what it can or can't do for one, maybe that's not the right term ... I have multiple sites A.comcast.net 192.168.a.0/24 B.att.net 192.168.b.0/24 C.localisp.net 192.168.c.0/24 ... that I would like to integrate into my own WAN and be able to see devices (machines, printers, etcetc) using the Internet as my transport medium. [NB that I don't have a proper router at most of these sites; I only have what the ISP gives me.] Better yet, when I'm on the road with a laptop I'd love to be able to connect into that and be part (just like remote office work). I was thinking that a host at each location, exposed through the firewall, would act as the local gateway and I could just route traffic across ... um, well ... that's where I run out :-) Is there any consumer-level software that will let me overlay a private network across multiple sites and encrypt the traffic between sites? And does each device in a site have two addresses (192.168.?.? and 172.16.?.?) or do I set each router's internal DHCP range to the larger network? 15.2 install report

Hi, all -- I've just run through a few installs and thought I'd send an update, pretty much for general news but also so that someone can tell me where I'm being an idiot. I downloaded the NET image and threw it on a USB stick and ran through the entire install configuration. Although it happily pulled down data to get set up, it couldn't figure out networking (on-board Ethernet) and failed to connect to repositories and died. Worse, there was no way to get back into the install process after manually bringing up the interface; I was stuck at the 80s-style screen (which I love; don't get me wrong :-) and unable to try again. So, fine, I also downloaded the DVD image and went through the whole setup again. This *appeared* to configure (including without limitation setting a static IP address) properly, but during the actual install failed to connect to a couple of repositories and so wasn't quite complete. Urgh. But I can ping! *grrr* I rebooted and found networking to be unavailable. I had to go into YaST, change over to wicked, and tell it to believe the static IP info it had there before I could get going. Odd. Networking appeared fine after that, and I was able to zypper grab a few packages, but did not come up on the next boot. This box again did the resume search on System\x20Reserved during boot; I really need to file that bug report. [This is an identical machine from the same refurb folks, so it's not surprising to see that it would be duplicated.] It takes less time to edit the boot line than to wait through it, so I've done that a few times now. By the way, according to /dev/disk/by-label, my sda1 swap volume *does* have that label, so my guess is that "format"ting for swap doesn't actually do so. Still, though, why it searches there or even specifies resume= is a question for the bug report ... On this last boot of the night, as noted above, I still have no networking, and poking at it this time does not appear effective. Hmmm. It's bedtime for me, and I'll hope to get back to this the next time I'm where it is. I'll certainly send updates -- and, now that I know I'm likely to see difficulties, take better notes. 15:3: Is there any delays in updates/patches due to SLE dependency compared to before (15.2)?

hello list is there actually any impact in delays or release handling of patches updates in leap 15.3 now that we have stronger(?) ties to SLE? are packages that are coming in from for example the SLE backports update repo such as todays chromium release having a larger delay than the situation on still leap 15.2? do we have different maintainers and people in charge for this package for example, or does it not really matter? Trying to find out if linux or more specific opensuse leap is actually fitting my needs with its updates and patches concept and time spans to actual availability. Having observed more desktop computing on the windows os side of things, the chromium and google chrome update were available on the original blog post release date, june 17th. Does opensuse or suse as the commercial company backing opensuse, and with its maybe heavier ties with leap now from 15.3 on, i am wondering if i am really protected to my needs, just looking at this chromium as an example here. ty.

What's a good app for creating jpgs? I'm not a graphics person, so this is a bit out of my area. I currently have some photos in pdfs, but can scan them again into whatever app. tnx jk
