[opensuse] Project management software question for project managers

I am looking for project management software I can install on my Suse box. Alas, there are quite a number of prducts that claim to be suitable project management products, but I am hoping to obtain a little help separating the wheat from the chaffe. Basically, when I open the project management software, I want to be able to choose from among a number of projects that are under way, and then see the relation between a client's wish list and the functional requirements specs, and then how these specs relate to the UML diagrams that have been created, and from there, what tasks have been defined for each requirement and the identity of all persons involved, the developers and their managers, and the person who designed the code that supports the requirement. And with that, I want to be able to see the project's timeline, the related bugs, &c. I would even want to be able to open the source code files and examine the code that was actually written. Here is my wish list: 1) a web application that stores data in either PostgreSQL or MySQL. 2) easy integration with UML tool (or has it's own UML tool that supports round trip engineering) 3) resource management (e.g. computers, and development tools, that can be used, personelle assigned to each task) 4) documentation of relation between functional requirements specs to specific tasks and specific unit and integration tests. 5) time/effort tracking 6) bug tracking, including data relating the existance of the bug, and effort required to fix it, to the person who wrote the original code, the person who supervised him or her, and the person who designed the 'feature' in question, the time taken to complete the original task, and the technologies used (to imprrove accountability as well as to determine retraining and continuing education needs (people aren't disposable, so instead of taking a harsh aproach to problems identified, I prefer to use education as a corrective, but I can't design corrective instruction without knowing precisely what the need is). I also need to know if a developer has a higher than normal bug rate simply because he doesn't take enough time to ensure the job is done right, or because I haven't adequately trained him, or because of a poor choice of tools, or somethng else that may be my fault. 7) use of task effort tracking history to generate provisional effort/cost estimates from new project's functional requirements 8) easy integration with open source ERP products like OFBiz (which may make trakcing resources and manpower easier, as well as connect real production data to the enterprise's accounting systems) 9) easy integration with CMS products, like Wordpress (especally for production documentation, includng degin documentation and user guides and reference manuals) 10) easy integration with verion control systems such as subversion. If there is a decent product that supports all of this, great (and language used to implement it doesn't matter), but if I have to write code to add missing requirements, then I am limited to those implemented using Perl or Java (and running on Tomcat). I don't know PHP well enough, and I don't know Ruby at all; and I really don't want to think about implementing this sort of thing in C++ (though I could if absolutely necessary). If you have project management experience, and use tools that are available for Suse Linux, what software product(s) did you use, and with what result? While I await relies, I will continue to review web documentation for those products I have found so far, to see if any of them are a) suitable for use in production and b) to see to what extent they support the features I am after. I have seen a number of products so far in my search, that deserve to be nameless, because they provide no way to relate cost estimates to one's team's track record, or to the details of the design, and seem satisfied with production of a pretty gantt chart (which is why I have formed the view that there is a whole lots of chaffe in the set of applications that call themselves project menement software - I have yet to find anything that really has the potential of being labelled wheat). Sorry SuSE: 9.1 is Waste of time and money!

I am sorry to conclude that my upgrade from SuSE 9.0 Pro to 9.1 Pro has been waste of time and money for me, so far. The same I have to say about the free SuSE "Installation support". The reason is that my SuSE 9.1 installation only detects 1 of my 3 SCSCI devices (as I wrote in another subject on this forum: http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-linux-e/2004-May/3254.html) Yamaha 4416S CDRW recorder detected HP DVD Writer 100i NOT detected Epson 1640SU scanner NOT detected It's rather stupid. I have installed 9.1 using the DVD disk just in the HP DVD drive, but after the installation of 9.1, the KDE/Konqueror /media/recorder cannot access it and YaST2 cannot install additional software from it. Only one "Cdrecorder" is found in My computer and that is the Yamaha 4416 drive, which the KDE/Konqueror file manager assign as /media/recorder11. I am sure 9.1 is the reason, as I hadn't this problems with 9.0. I have tried both an update and two several new installation of 9.1. Neither SJDS nor Windows on the same multiboot PC have problems to detect these devices. In my opinion SuSE should therefore debug 9.1 better and longer, and not leave the problems to the customers. I see SuSE notes on their web saying that they know SCSI scanners are not detected in 9.1. But regarding my HP DVD writer problem, the SuSE support (as usual) don't take the responsibility and argue that this problem (a combination of IDE disk and SCSI devices) isn't included in their free installation support! This sounds remarkable, and I have never had a modern PC of so simple model or configuration that it has fitted the limited rules for the free installation support. Terje J. Hanssen

[SLE] RealPlayer G2 on SuSe 6.2

Yesterday, I finally got sound going on my Linux setup. I downloaded RealPlayer G2 and it worked beautifully. Today, RealPlayer run but no sound coming out. All other sound functions still work. I can still play my CD, have system sound BUT no sound when I run RealPlayer. /var/log/message said kernel: Sound: DMA (output) timed out - IRQ/DRQ config error? but KDE sound still work. I have re-installed RealPlayer 3 times now, still no sound when I run the RealPlayer. Any help is appreciated. SuSE Tumbleweed with newest updates and upgrades. 5.7.1-1-default #1 SMP Wed Jun 10 11:53:46 UTC 2020 (6a549f6) x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Just recently started to give error messages when plugging in e.g. USB Headsets, Arduino Uno into some Exsys USB 3.0 hub. This was working fine in Tumbleweed before and in e.g. SuSE 13.1. The error message is e.g.: [...]usb 2-1.4.3: new full-speed USB device number 10 using xhci_hcd [...]usb 2-1.4.3: New USB device found, idVendor=2341, idProduct=0043, bcdDevice= 0.01 [...]usb 2-1.4.3: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=220 [...]usb 2-1.4.3: Manufacturer: Arduino (www.arduino.cc) ...serialnumber... [...]kernel: usb 2-1.4.3: Not enough bandwidth for new device state. [...]kernel: usb 2-1.4.3: can't set config #1, error -28 This error message started on Jun 04, after making an update (zypper up) on June 3rd. A USB3.0 stick is working on the Exsys Hub. The Arduino is working on some other USB 3.0 Port of another hub. Regression? Any hints how to get this away? [opensuse] Kernel compilation the openSUSE way?

I usually take the newest openSUSE kernel (from repository Kernel_stable). But since some month I have a DVB T2 HD card, which requires a patch (see https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=194171). So I need to compile kernels myself. I have a working compilation path. But the current path has 12 steps! It takes some time. I wonder, why it is so complicated to configure, compile and install a Kernel under openSUSE. Is there a better/easier/automated way to configure, compile and install a Kernel under openSUSE? I know this blog article. But the article uses Vanilla kernels and also needs 6 steps. With additional patches (4 steps), third-party modules (2 steps) and cleanup (1 step) the article would also need 13 steps: Compiling the Linux Kernel, the SUSE way https://www.suse.com/communities/blog/compiling-de-linux-kernel-suse-way/ This is my Kernel configuration, compilation and installation path: 1. Problem with software raid and Tumbleweed

Hello, I got Tumbleweed Snapshot20210115 and wanted to install it on a rather old machine with a software raid1 (UEFI raid). On this raid some Windows 10 is already existing. The installer of Tumbleweed Snapshot20210115 does not recognize this software raid1. It only shows single harddiscs and no raid volume. An older snapshot 20190704 is able to see that software raid1 but I cannot do any zypper dup with that one (this version was running previously before some hardware crash). Any help for that - either a snapshot which can handle software raid1 or some way to set zypper dup running again with the older snapshot? BR and thanks in advance Markus

Upgrade from Leap 15.1 to 15.2 Desktop Failure

Greetings, Just did an upgrade from my stable Leap 15.1 install to 15.2. I downloaded the DVD and did the upgrade from booting that. It asked me if I wanted to used the online repos as I have an internet connection so I said OK. Everything seemed to go well and booting into my KDE desktop. But clicking the gecko start menu gives an error. "Error loading QML file:file///sur/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.kde.plasma.kicker/contents/ui/main.qml:27:1: module "org.kde.plasma.private.kicker: is not installed" The system is running and I see my desktop widgets doing their thing. But I can't do anything. I can get to tty1 and login as root but I don't know what to do from there. I tried running yast in tty1 but get errors when I try software management. This system was first installed with Leap 15.0, upgraded to 15.1, now to a partially broken 15.2. Any suggestions most welcome. Jim F

Leap 15.2 KDE file associations

On a recent Leap 15.2 install, I seem not to be able to get KDE to remember file associations. More specifically, which application to run for the file. If I select a file in Konqueror, and then select an application in the dialog Konqueror provides, and click the box that says to remember this, when I click again on that same file, it once again asks which application to use. It never remembers the association. It does run the application after I select it. But never again unless I select the application again. When I say that the association should be remembered, I get the status window saying that something is being updated. There is no error. In the X log, I see this when the association is selected and being remembered: kbuildsycoca4 running... So if there is an error, it is not presented anywhere I see. Has anyone else seen this? -- Roger Oberholtzer

annoying message on KDE desktop screen

Folks, I've recently done an update from 15.1 to 15.2 using `zypper dup`. Since then I see an annoying message on the middle of my KDE desktop screen: Erstellung des Ein-/Ausgabemoduls nicht möglich. Socket für Ein-/Ausgabemodul für „desktop“ kann nicht gestartet werden. I guess an English translation is roughly Can't create in/out module. Socket for in/out module for 'desktop' can't be started. My next step was to switch to the newest KDE version following the instructions from https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:KDE_repositories However, I still get this message. For testing purposes, I called dbus-launch dolphin and get the following output on the console – dolphin shows no files in its window. kf.kio.core: KIO Connection server not listening, could not connect kf.kio.core: couldn't create slave: "Socket für Ein-/Ausgabemodul für „tags“ kann nicht gestartet werden." kf.kio.core: "Erstellung des Ein-/Ausgabemoduls nicht möglich. Question about zypper updates on TW

I'm on Tumbleweed. Does zypper dup reload the current status of my repositories with newer packages, or do I have to run zypper ref first? Or is that what the man page means by "auto-refresh", and in that case, how do I configure that? The info I found online is conflicting. Wiki says zypper dup is enough, but it also says I get a notification about new packages, which I don't. I'm guessing that's only valid for Leap, but not sure about this either. Thanks.

Mayday - gnupg lost my secret keys! Still shown in private-keys-v1.d/ What to check?

All, This is a first for me. I was in tbird (68) and enigmail reported not being able to find the secret key to open my Drafts. Huh?? So I open konsole and did: gpg --list-secret-keys --keyid-format LONG And before rebooting it showed my 6 keys with "not found" shown after the key number. But after reboot, now gpg --list-secret-keys --keyid-format LONG shows NOTHING? Oh, this is bad. Using ls -al to look in ~/.gnupg/private-keys-v1.d/ There are 13 .key files there. There is also a ~/.gnupg/openpgp-revocs.d/ file -- ironically from 2/23/2017, but I don't see that being an issue. There are ~/... backup? files in ~/.gnupg, e.g. -rw------- 1 david david 3651976 Feb 22 17:56 pubring.gpg -rw------- 1 david david 3645612 Feb 22 17:56 pubring.gpg~ -rw-r--r-- 1 david david 66740 Feb 23 05:36 pubring.kbx -rw-r--r-- 1 david david 64241 Feb 23 05:06 pubring.kbx~ I have not Checking the running processes to make sure the agent is running I see two processes: /usr/bin/ssh-agent /usr/bin/gpg-agent --sh --daemon --keep-display /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc and /usr/bin/gpg-agent --sh --daemon --keep-display /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc I guess one is for ssh and one for the normal gpg keyring? What has happened and what to check?? I have a number of drafts I need to access in Thunderbird and enigmail thinks my keys are gone and attempting to list the keys above, so does gpg. through our four KDE repos it's even nicer than bfore, htop says cpu usage < 5%, RAM 1,2GB with 5 open programs, on a machine 10+yrs old I always wonder why there are people who use a different DE (among those who do use a DE) and which be their reasons...I couldn't think of anything better, I only miss sometimes the mouse wheel scrolling speed setting, I'm looking forward for it to be re-implemented So, why don't you use KDE? And why do you use (not-KDE)?

Notes on the 15.2 Upgrade

I finally got around to the 15.1>15.2 upgrade the other day using the iso image on dvd, and here's a few notes. I'd like to hear what people think. I initially tried to update all repositories before the upgrade, but I must have messed up the pacman url, because it was not found and I had conflicts. I tried to use the back button to fix it, but couldn't find my back to the right spot, and decided to be conservative and start again with just the dvd. I ended up with conflicts anyway and resolved them one by one. The result was about 400 packages deleted. A lot of them were development packages and debuginfo and whatnot. I haven't looked further yet. After the upgrade I used Yast to switch to pacman, and it did pull some packages back in. I also used Yast for a serious online update. BTW, I noticed the main repository does not carry some chess packages such as xboard; they are only available from pacman. I then noticed about 600 packages still had an "x-lp151.x" sort of moniker-- zypper up took care of that. KDE's notification system isn't working due to a problem with xfce as described here: https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/543232-Lost-notifications . I'm not entirely happy with the proposed solutions. I seem to recall KDE notification problems before, perhaps with 15.0, or maybe 42.0, where my system would fall back to xfce notifications until the KDE problems were fixed. That seemed like a nice behavior, all in all. ksysguard has gone from maybe 6-8% of one CPU to 30-40%. I've always tended to leave that running on one desktop, but 30-40% is unacceptable. It also apparently replaced my file read/write columns with Download/Upload. I have a CPU temp monitor in one of the panels that is not working. Any attempt to open its configuration dialog crashes plasmashell. Then there's akonadi. Akonadi_imap_resource, akonadiserver, and mysqld hog CPU continually on admittedly very large gmail folders until such time as akonadiserver "closes unexpectedly". I've also suddenly got 1131-300-200-100-300 emails in a drafts folder as reported variously by kontact and xfce. None of them are visible. Akonadi server somehow restarts itself. Hey, I can't watch Netflix while akonadi is running! At times past, I've bumped akonadi's priority down a notch. I haven't mentioned bluetooth which has been an ongoing problem for a long time. I've successfully nursed it in the past with restarts and whatnot, but I don't want to get into that at the moment. I used to use serial over bluetooth a lot, as well as tethering to my phone, but for the moment, it's a bit beyond me. So, comments? I can follow up on my downtime, keeping in mind that it will take time away from watching Netflix! ;-)

KDE: Removable devices default action

Hi list, I just upgraded my TW machines, which (obviously...) brought some new KDE, too. Seems this time they have changed the default presented option for the 'Removable devices' widget in the toolbar. That used to be 'Mount', Now it is 'Mount and Open', and I can't find a way to change that back to the old option. Am I blind, or is this another 'improvement' that may not be questioned?

Mounting CIFS network shares in Leap 15.2

Before i file a bug, i want to ask the crowd.. :) When attaching a CIFS network share with the KDE/dolphin tools (knetattach?) i can specify the server, the sharename but i am unable to specifiy a user. I will attach a german screenshot of the dialog box. Do you experience the same problem? My CIFS server is requiring authentication.

Hi, The `zypper --help` command misses some options that I'm usually looking for. Is it possible to add these to the `--help` command? For example I know when removing a package i need to give the command `zypper rm <package_name>`, but that command only removes that package and does not included the dependencies. So usually i first type `--help` to find the exact command, but am always disappointed that it's not there. For future reference the correct command is: `zypper rm -u <package_name>' And to see the orphaned packages is: `zypper pa --unneeded` /Syds

I forgot about it. Then the other day, I wanted to share a file using my server, and noticed that Apache was being hit, with "stupid" requests. Well, not stupid, they are probably probing vulnerabilities. What it surprises me is that they hit such a high port, they have to be probing every port. (The router is set to redirect incoming tcp on that high port to the inside server at the same high port) My IP address changed on the 7 and 8 of February, the hits increase on the 10th. It is possible that the previous user of that IP had a known domain. Should I worry? Should I try to implement something in the firewall that blocks IPs that attempt on vulnerabilities, somehow? If there is such a tool. Can I know if they are attempting to access the URL by domain name or by IP address? Ie, what do they write exactly on the "browser". Or script. Hi All I was trying to unsub from this list from another address of mine, which didn't work properly, so I tested the present provider, which in turn works fine I couldn't unsubscribe from the list's site (https://lists.opensuse.org) because I haven't got an account and getting a new one was not available. So I sent an unsub mail to users-leave(a)opensuse.org, it seems this is the correct procedure now, but I wasn't able to unsubscribe, I got a "delivery notification", which I sent to the list's owner. He said "I'll look into it", but after a couple of weeks I tried again to unsubscribe and it failed as before. I reported the issue to the owner, but this time I didn't even get a reply, so I had to filter the list as "spam" to not get it double downloaded. What's up with "users"? Is it gonna be eliminated perhaps? Cheers,

We have had a request for 12-bit color jpeg images. Sigh. Anyway, isn't it the case that the jpeg library must be compiled for 12-bit instead of 8-bit support? I would imagine that one could not then replace the system jpeg library with this version. Has anyone tried 12-bit jpeg support in openSUSE? What was involved? -- Roger Oberholtzer

Folks, I've recently done an update from 15.1 to 15.2 using `zypper dup`. Since then I see an annoying message on the middle of my KDE desktop screen: Erstellung des Ein-/Ausgabemoduls nicht möglich. Socket für Ein-/Ausgabemodul für „desktop“ kann nicht gestartet werden. I guess an English translation is roughly Can't create in/out module. Socket for in/out module for 'desktop' can't be started. My next step was to switch to the newest KDE version following the instructions from https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:KDE_repositories However, I still get this message. now three installs later new errors. First install Leap 15.2 worked for a year then suddenly ethernet stopped working. File systems ext4. Some creative workarounds fixed it temporarily then failed. Hello, I'm trying for some years to change from network scripts into wicked, but it seems wicked lack the support for routing tables. Hi, I believe there is a problem with the latest tumbleweed version of hplip (hplip-3.20.11-1.4.x86_64 ) I am unable to install the plugin and am getting the error: Error importing HPLIP modules. Is HPLIP installed? I checked on google and this type of error has been seen before. Probably no one else has seen it on tumbleweed as most tumbleweed users probably don't keep reinstalling the OS. I'm not on factory so could someone look into this.....Thanks, mike

Freezing Skype after TW 20210212 & 20210215

Hi, since I yesterday upgraded 2 TW installs with KDE to latest TW snapshots, both 20210212 as well as 20210215, and since then Skype (latest version from its own repo) seems to be running in background well, i.e. it notifies me about new message and so on, but the window doesn't render at all, it contains basically background, so it's not usable at all. I wonder if this could be related to possible sandboxing issue mentioned by Dominique at Tuesday, but I have 64bit systems, and I have libqt5-qtwebengine 5.15.2-6.1 from tw-update. GIMP and plugins in oS or TW

Hi all, I try to use GIMP as a photo manipulator software on TW. Mainly to a bit repair old photos. I know there is a so-called resynthetizer python plugin set for GIMP. I dowloaded them, copied into the plugins directory of GIMP, made them executabel, and reloaded GIMP. And nothing. They should be present inthe Filters/Enhance list, but they are not there. Could anybody of you made them to work? I would especially need the heal selection plugin to remove patches, flecks, writing on old pictures. Unfortunately, it is also difficult to make toolboxes visible in oS. In Ubuntu and Mint GIMP comes up as expected - but the plugins mentioned above are not seen either. Leap 15.2 KDE file associations

On a recent Leap 15.2 install, I seem not to be able to get KDE to remember file associations. More specifically, which application to run for the file. If I select a file in Konqueror, and then select an application in the dialog Konqueror provides, and click the box that says to remember this, when I click again on that same file, it once again asks which application to use. It never remembers the association. It does run the application after I select it. But never again unless I select the application again. When I say that the association should be remembered, I get the status window saying that something is being updated. There is no error. In the X log, I see this when the association is selected and being remembered: kbuildsycoca4 running... So if there is an error, it is not presented anywhere I see. scaling old applications

Hi, tumbleweed kde, amd-ryzen1700, amd graphic, 3 screens 3840x2160 (over all a fast machine) i run a old x-windows application on a virtual qemu-suse10.1 (its a proprietary software, and this is the last suse where its running on - and the last linux release of this software) (to be clear somewhere on 10.1 it stopped working, because of some updates (during live-cycle of 10.1), so i freeze the system at last working version)) this software is not scalable with the window manager. i could scale the software internally up to 2048x2048 pixels. but with my new screens 3840x2160 its to small to work with. i start this software normally over ssh two or three times in parallel. now my question: is there a possibility to scale a old software wit a fast reaction time? i could easily with virtmanager (over spice) work with the virtual machine and scale it. - but then i have only one time the software running at the desktop. but i need often more in parallel. i tried: https://github.com/kaueraal/run_scaled but i have a huge reaction lack of mouse movement and some parts of the screen are not updated correct. - not usable. at the moment i change screen resolution at one of my monitor to still use more than one instance of the software in parallel. but this is not comfortable, all other things i move to this monitor is also scaled.... if there is not a solution of scaling, maybe how to start 2 or 3 times inside the virtual machine the software and use spice to have access to all of them in parallel? I want to have remote desktops in to openSUSE systems. I currently use x11vnc to do this from other Linux computers. Connecting to an existing session as well as letting the session be shared are needed. x11vnc does this fine. We use the default display :0 for this. Recently (after leap 42.3 some time), it seems that x11vnc or X requires that one provide an authorization file to access the desktop. It is specified to x11vnc via the -auth option. This would generally not be a problem. Except finding the file to use is a bit of a hack. Where the files is located depends on, it seems, which display manager one is using. When using kdm, for example, the file(s) are in /var/lib/kdm/AuthFiles/. Other dms put them elsewhere. Which brings me to my real question. I start x11vnc via xinetd. In that context, I would like how to know what authorization file to use for display 0. That is the one we usually connect to and share. Initially, I had just edited the xinetd file with the name of the new authorization file, which is made each time the display manager starts. This was not nice. So I thought I might just use a wild card to get the name of the file in /var/lib/kdm/AuthFiles/ as there was only one. We only use display :0. Today, on a couple systems, I suddenly find more than one authorization file. I have no idea why. So the wild card thing will not be a real solution. How are others solving this? To be honest, I don't really want the auth thing. I would be quite happy to just disable it all together. But if that is not possible, how best to find out in an automated way (i.e., in a shell script) which auth file to specify to x11vnc? I am quite flexible in solutions. Hi, since some days i recognized that in libreoffice or thunderbird, when i write a text with a "€" (euro-symbol) everiting seems ok. but when i mark the text with shift and arrow-keys then press strg+c and on a other place strg+v the euro symbol is replaced by a "?" (questionmark) if i mark the euro-symbol with mouse and press medium mouse button to copy, the euro-symbol is still there example: writing text: € copiing text: ? i have no idea where to check whats going on here. system is tumbleweed, kde, german i do not think its a tumbleweed bug, because same systems did not behavior like this. it must be a configuration problem. -- www.becherer.de

move root to new disk

Dear all, Possibly this topic was discussed several times, and there are a number of "tutorials" found on the web. Maybe too much. So: I would like to move my root partition to a brand new SSD, and keep /home on the old disk. I copied the existing one with dd and gave it a new UUID. How can I proceed? This is an UEFI machine. Since /boot/efi is tiny, I think it can remain where it is now. Should I create a swap on the SSD? And possibly the most important: how can I tell the laptop to use the root on the SSD.? I tried to unmount the existing /, but since it is in use, I cannot umount it. Thanks for the help. What could this be? A damage to the file system? Need to run fsck? And why I cannot, even as root eliminate it? Could it be related to the use of bleachbit? I did run bleachbit as superuser on the system. But even if, it should not have created such a weird thing. Weird problem with webcam

I have a weird problem with my Logitech C270 webcam. It has worked well for years, including a lot of video chats recently. However, a couple of weeks ago, the microphone stopped working. It doesn't even appear in Pulse Audio. I then tried it in my ThinkPad, where it again failed. On the other hand the microphone in my Logitech headset works fine with both computers. This led me to believe the webcam microphone had failed. I then bought another C270 and the same thing happens! I then tried booting the Thinkpad into Windows 10, where the webcam microphone now works. Any idea why it would fail in openSUSE 15.2, but work in Windows 10 on the same computer? tnx jk

Leap 15.2 sudden loss of ethernet

while using my ACER E5-575 I suddenly lost my ethernet port access. I had a friend check it and the connection works under a usb flash connected distro. But it no longer works in Leap even with delete and adding it back. I can and will do a reinstall Monday if I can not make this work. There should be a solution but I did not find anyone else online having it. I am having my friend test the wireless which I do have locally. What if any elegant solution short of complete reinstall will correct this? mounting hard drive as executable

Hi, OK trying to mount a hard drive so I can install steam games (I have a 512 GB SSD with the OS -Tumbleweed-on it) and so I want the Hard Drives for the installations. Hi, background: at tumbleweed, kde (but its a non platform specific question) we use i-phones with "droidcam" for webcam and sound. since about a half year with firefox. working fine. now i have to use chromium because of some jitsi servers did not accept firefox. to use chromium with the v4l2loopback driver i have to use the driver with additional options (if no option chromium did not find the webcam): rmmod v4l2loopback modprobe v4l2loopback exclusive_caps=1 will do the trick. -------------- problem: something is loading the v4l2loopback kernel modul without this option. i checked my system: inside: /etc/modules-load.d i have had a file (made by me, half year ago) who has loaded the driver without options. - i removed the file /etc/modprobe.d nothing releated to v4l2loopback /usr/lib/modprobe.d is a file from package v4l2loopback-autoload.rpm - i uninstalled the rpm. - file is gone /usr/lib/modules-load.d is a file from package v4l2loopback-autoload.rpm - i uninstalled the rpm. - file is gone now i think the system should start without v4l2loopback. restart the system lsmod shows v4l2loopback is still loaded. i insered a file at /etc/modprobe.d 50-v4l2loopback.conf with contend: options v4l2loopback exclusive_caps=1 reboot, still same problem driver is loaded without options. so what is loading this driver? i searched /etc and /usr/lib but did not find the text string "v4l2loopback" could there some udev rules? is it inside initrd ? (did i have to recreate initrd, how to do?) how to find this out, and how to delete or give this kernel-modul-load-command the option "exclusive_caps=1" simoN -- www.becherer.de

This is pretty much off-topic though it does potentially talk about an openSUSE-based PC at two ends of a connection. Just a quick, basic layman's response is all I'm looking for. Please, if this thread gets more than 10 posts long and delves into anecdotes about systems deployed in army conflicts in the 1970s, please delete it. Full paranoia tin-foil hat mode on: If, theoretically, a PC running openSUSE in one location, is communicating via encrypted video calls or SSH across the Internet, with another openSUSE PC in another location, and then the connection at one location (staffed by tech-averse personnel) mysteriously goes down, the provider then sends out an engineer who unexpectedly suggests that wiring behind the wall socket is 'draining the power', and proceeds to do some unknown work to the cabling that may hypothetically involve the covert placement of a bugging device on the line... breathe out, stay with me... Does that potentially compromise any secure connection, be it SSH, encrypted voice/video call etc. that is established between these computers, or does the encryption (provided it's strong enough) make it impossible to intercept with a physical device on the line? I'd have presumed the latter, because it's no different to trying to hack it from anywhere else, but I might be overlooking a technicality. To clarify, the PC connects to a router that is wired to a wall box serving as an 'entry point' of the connection into the property. Any such bugging device would therefore be placed between the router and the outbound cabling onto the street. gumb special agent

If you are like me and are eternally "behind" because just stumbling on new things every day using your PC. This came to may attention about a newsfeed of linuxdotcom, but no need to buy it, all resources easily found on the web. So you have a PC and never use the command line fumbling through menus to get sysinfo, or do want to change the hostname of your nice machine, try to open a terminal as user and write: hostnamectl status that already is a surprising amount of info you normally do not get to see with such an ease. Trouble configuring split OpenVPN

Also, this is not really ideal as I'm setting up my DNS for this connection manually, rather than using what my LAN is providing. The difference between the hosts I can/can't resolve seems to be related to name servers. The hosts that I can connect to are also resolvable without the VPN (e.g. 'ping' is able to resolve the host -> ip but refuses my connection), whereas the hosts that are not resolvable without VPN remain unresolvable with the split VPN tunnel. The problem is that I don't know what information I need to configure the split tunnel correctly. This is what nslookup returns for one of the unresolvable hosts while connected to the full VPN.
