I have been beating my head against smartctl for over two hours now. I cannot seem to get the command "long" accepted, as the various tutorials explain. When I try to insert it, I get an error, like this: linux1:~ # smartctl long /dev/nvme0n1 smartctl 7.0 2019-05-21 r4917 [x86_64-linux-5.3.18-57-default] (SUSE RPM) Copyright (C) 2002-18, Bruce Allen, Christian Franke, www.smartmontools.org ERROR: smartctl takes ONE device name as the final command-line argument. You have provided 2 device names: long /dev/nvme0n1 (It doesn't like "short" either.) And my typing is getting worse! It doesn't help that my drive is called /dev/nvme0n1. As I mentioned earlier, the lightning strike has damaged something in this, my main computer, and I'm trying to find out what. For those who missed the earlier post, the only thing I can connect to here is the internet. I cannot see the printers or the laptop machine, and nmap basically doesn't work. I started this quest at 11:30 PM and it's now 3:30 AM. I'm going to bed! --doug

gtk2 application start delays 25 seconds

Hello: This occurs in openSUSE Leap 15.3 (64 bit). Gtk2 applications start with a 25 seconds delay. That is, it takes exactly 25 seconds the application window to appear. This behavior has been reported previously in other distros, eg: In 20.04.1 all gtk2 apps starts 25 seconds https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1891245 I installed appmenu-gtk2-module and libcanberra-gtk-module but it did not solve the problem. How can I fix this in Leap 15.3? Thanks, Istvan

Any advice for leap on mobile desktop zen3 ryzen5000 based hardware?

List, newbie with desktop linux usage. Pondering about going for linux on mobile desktop. Some amd zen3 based ryzen5000 mobile based hardware. only integrated gpu apu stuff no discrete gfx chip, only embedded into the cpu/apu hardware. Any best practices? wifi, bluetooth, power saving power efficiency, some nvme disk or something. Any full disk full system encryption good? The system will probably be uefi based no classic bios available I guess. Should I already go for leap 15.4 at its early stage? Any hints in general? TY.

So, you must install Thunderbird with YaST or zypper, and then remove the data directory I told you, before starting Thunderbird. That will make it start from scratch. It looks like there is a version of T/Bird now for 15.3: https://opensuse.pkgs.org/15.3/mozilla-x86_64/MozillaThunderbird-91.3.2-lp1… but I can't get to a place where it will install. Brain fog, I guess. Please help! (Have rm'd the old T'Bird and with luck it's gone.) If I can get it working again you won't have to read email from this awful system! Thanx--doug
