[opensuse] Virtualbox: Linux guest machine is hours out of sync

Hi, I have a Leap 15.1 guest machine under virtualbox, but the clock is days out of sync, after restoring from "saved" state. What is the correct manner to get it to sync? I thought the guest tools would take care of that, there is no point in running a daemon to discipline the guest clock. It should just read the host clock. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. [opensuse] How to rerun dracut?

All, I have an old 42.3 laptop that is getting flaky (probably a capacitor) and apparently it had a hiccup during dracut running after a zypper up and it apparently caused problems with the modules config. I can boot the recover and chroot the system (and it is fine), but how do I re-run dracut so it finishes its configuration? (current problem is at the login: prompt, I can input username (or root) and pw, but then the system says unable to log in) So there are authentication modules that were not written that need to be written I suspect) -- David C. [opensuse] Laptop frozen after suspend

Hello, A laptop I have (Lenovo Yoga 510, AMD A6 based) gets frozen after suspend. Mouse cursor moves but no response to anything. This happens on both OpenSUSE 15.1 (installed, with stock kernel and with 5.1.9 kernel) and Fedora 30 (live LXDE image). I suspected the amdgpu video driver. However, the only other driver I could start successfully is fbdev. With that, after suspend there is nothing on the screen and the computer does not react to anything except power-down. I also tried going into suspend mode from a virtual text console. After resume, the console responds. However, after switching to the X console I see it is no longer responding and I can not switch back. How do I debug and report the issue? The only guide I found is for Ubuntu: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend . [opensuse] OS 42.3, Virtualbox cannot start any more - file permissions

Hi, after the update of Virtualbox it can't start anymore. It says: sudo chmod 4711 /usr/lib/virtualbox/VirtualBoxVM Ok, I do that. But in it's strange sense of humor it still asks me to do the same. Even after a reboot... that's what ls -l says: -rws--x--x 1 root vboxusers 158408 15. [opensuse] Leap 15.1 and Intel graphics driver question

After having many stability problems with the xf86-video-intel graphics driver, I switched to the "modesetting" driver on my Lenovo IdeaPad U430 notebook (Intel i5-4200UCPU and graphics) on Leap 42.3 and Leap 15.0. Yesterday I upgraded to Leap 15.1 and KDE Plasma did not start (TWM and Gnome had no problems). To fix this, I removed the "modesetting" driver settings from /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-device.conf: Section "Device" Identifier "Intel Graphics" Driver "modesetting" # Driver "intel" # Option "AccelMethod" "glamor" # Option "AccelMethod" "none" # Option "DRI" "3" EndSection Now KDE Plasma starts again with the Intel driver. My questions: - Does anyone successfully run the "modesetting" driver with Intel graphics? - Do I need an additional configuration for "modesetting" and Leap 15.1? - As I was running the xf86-video-intel some time ago, I decided to update the driver the Git-master. The Leap 15.1 xf86-video-intel driver seems to be updated last time on Sep 19 2018. Is this recent enough or should I update to make the driver more stable? [opensuse] Laptop freezes after lid closing/reopening

Hello, In Leap 5.1 witj minimum X configuration (icewm) I close the lid of the laptop. Then when I reopen it I find the system frozen. The mouse cursor is still moving but no reaction to any clicks, nor to any key presses (including Ctrl+Alt+F1 and Ctrl+Alt+Backspace). How do I debug/fix this? Ideally I'd like the system to go into suspend-to-RAM on lid closure and then come back. If not possible, at least keep it on but don't freeze it. [opensuse] Virtualbox: two guest Linux machines with the same IP. How do I change it?

Hi, I cloned a virtual machine, telling it to change the MAC address. But Linux Leap 15.1 refuses to recognize the change of MAC and thus it gets the same IP from the router as the original. I'm using "Bridged Adapter" mode, in order to get internet and connect via ssh to the machine. I don't like bridged mode, but I don't know another mode that gets me both things in virtualbox. The host MAC is 00:21:85:16:2d:0b The guests MAC is 00:08:27:44:87:3a - on both guests. How can I force different MACs and thus different IPs? -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. [opensuse] zypper extremely slow

Hello, I would like to update my 42.3 computer that was deactivated for more than a year, but zypper up ix /extremely/ slow: it downloaded the first of 740 packages with a "speed" of 340 b/sec... I have a very fast fiber internet connection and browsing the web works perfectly, just zypper sleeps. Is there something wrong with download.opensuse? Or is it my router who doesn't like opensuse? Or what else could it be? [opensuse] thunderbird enigmail delete receive rule from already deleted key

Hi, i have had receive rule for different emailaddresses. these rules worked fine. now after this keys are outdated, i deleted them in enigmail/edit_keys. after that i got new valid key for this email addresses. if i now try to send to one of this addresses, normally it should (also without specific rule) find the valid key. but it did not. i think the reason is the old rule. if i select manually encrypt, it opened a window where i could manually select the new key for this emailaddess. and very at the end of the key list i see the old entry for this emailaddress, but marked with a empty red square. here i have no option to delete this entry. if i go direct over the menue enigmail/edit_receive_rule/ (where i could delete rules) this entry did NOT exist. so how to delete this (somehow in background still existing) entry manually????? thanks, simoN -- www.becherer.de -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe(a)opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner(a)opensuse.org
