[opensuse] Leap 15 Beta - Kudos for packaging Fluxbox (it's what I'm using now on 15)

Good job devs, I had pulled the 42.3 srpm for fluxbox and built it for Leap 15 beta. Just attempted a zypper dup (--no-recommends) and we now have an openSUSE version of Fluxbox, e.g. Problem: problem with installed package fluxbox-1.3.7-6.6.x86_64 Solution 1: install fluxbox-1.3.7-lp150.1.7.x86_64 (with vendor change) (no vendor) --> openSUSE Solution 2: keep obsolete fluxbox-1.3.7-6.6.x86_64 Choose from above solutions by number or skip, retry or cancel [1/2/s/r/c] (c): 1 Problem: problem with installed package fluxbox-styles-upstream-1.3.7-6.6.noarch Solution 1: install fluxbox-styles-upstream-1.3.7-lp150.1.7.noarch (with vendor change) (no vendor) --> openSUSE Solution 2: keep obsolete fluxbox-styles-upstream-1.3.7-6.6.noarch Choose from above solutions by number or skip, retry or cancel [1/2/s/r/c] (c): 1 That's nice :) -- David C. [opensuse] Do I need to do anything special for SSD in Leap 42.3?

All, I was checking the opensuse articles on SSD and most are 11.2 - 11.4 timeframe, and the latest is non-official. https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:SSD_performance https://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/ssd-in-opensuse https://lizards.opensuse.org/2015/02/06/ssd-configuration-for-opensuse/ All the prior articles discuss putting noatime in fstab, moving tmpfs to ram, disabling browser cache, and setting vm.swappiness=1. They also talk about running fstrim on each boot and putting it in boot.local. What do we do for trim? I've checked systemd trim.service and timer are disabled? Is these customization still needed on Leap 42.3 or does the setup now recognize SSD and make the needed changes? I don't swap (I have one, it's just never used - 8G of RAM). So do we need to enable fstrim service and fstimer? What says the brain-trust? -- David C. [opensuse] Silverlight / moonlight / pipelight

My company has an internal web site that requites sliverlight in the browser. I have not used this site in a while. But I need to now. When it offered to install something for Linux, it sent me to http://www.go-mono.com/moonlight/redirector.html?=4.0.50401.0, and that failed (URL was not in the server). I looked around for openSUSE and saw references to pipelight. But I do not see any packages anymore (except in a user's project - and those are either broken or disabled). I see that there are mono packages. But it is unclear which packages are needed to get silverlight functionality. The mono site suggests installing mono-devel, but there is no such package in OBS. Is there any support for silverlight on Linux anymore? Specifically Leap 42.3. Sorry, somehow I got this message linked to another. Also, my distribution is OpenSUSELeap 4.3 as opposed to 4.2 referenced. I have purchased a Canon Color imageCLASS MF733Cdw laser printer for my OpenSUSELeap 4.2 distribution. 1. Using YAST/hardware/printer/add, I get No connections, try 'Detect More' message. 2. A Canon MF731C/733C UFRII is found at the IP address I assigned. 3. Under 'Find and Assign a Driver' the message no matching driver found is presented. At the Canon site I found a driver for linux linux-UFRII-drv-v350-usen.tar.gz I could find nothing under opensuse search tool that matched. If this is appropriate, how to I install the above tar file? I hope this description is complete enough. [opensuse] experimental packages

I'm considering installing mosquitto on my 42.3 system. I'd previously installed it on earlier openSUSE versions from a home repository. So I went to https://software.opensuse.org/package/mosquitto and I see that there are now official releases for Tumbleweed and 15.0, but not for 42.3 or older systems. In addition to various home repositories (listed under community packages), I see there is also a package marked 'experimental'. What exactly is an 'experimental' package? Is it better than a home package or more dangerous? There's no tooltip or other explanation of the meaning on that web page, so I clicked on Documentation which took me to https://doc.opensuse.org/ and then I typed 'experimental package' into the search box and it said 'Unauthorized access to internal API. Please refer to https://support.google.com/customsearch/answer/4542055' which isn't very useful. So I searched for 'opensuse experimental packages' on google, but it shows me lots of hits for particular packages that are 'experimental' but I don't see any definition of what that means. [opensuse] the kernel version

Ok, I am confused. The last thread talked about the kernel being used in Leap 15 that is coming out, as being kernel 4.12. Then this website that was linked on the thread: http://news.softpedia.com/news/linux-kernel-4-12-reached-end-of-life-users-… talks about how kernel 4.12 has reached end of life and everyone should move to 4.13. So I looked on my desktop running 42.3 with all the latest updates, and this is my kernel: > uname -r 4.4.120-45-default Then I looked on my laptop running 42.3 with all the latest updates as of a week ago, which uses the kernel:stable repository, and this is the kernel it is using: > uname -r 4.15.15-1.g4904fc3-default So if 4.12 has reached end of life, then 4.4 (which is what is available in the distribution repos for 42.3) must be really old. But 4.15, which is available from the kernel:stable repository, is far out in the future and not yet being really developed. My conclusions there must be wrong, but why? Is there something to the way they number the kernels that I am missing here? [opensuse] Question re security updates (shibboleth-sp)

Wondering how security updates are handled at the tail of an active cycle. The immediate concern, shibboleth-sp has a security issue in the current package. Looking at software.opensuse.com (hoping there'd be some updated package for opensuse there) I see that Tumbleweed and SLES variants, as well as the (beta) of 15 have updates. More surprisingly openSUSE 12.3 has an update (this seems to be the work of the Shibboleth people). But no package update for Leap. I'd guess this is because 15 is due out in May, but this seems a long time to me. Is there a policy that governs this?
