I have an Acer Aspire ES1-520-37LW with a partition ´BIOS Grub´ and a partition ´EFI boot´. I want to install Tumbleweed and Windows 10. Should I boot UEFI or Legacy? [opensuse] Problem with NFS mount

I have two systems which I believe are identical. One system will mount the other with no problem. The second system will NFS mount itself, but generates the following error when attempting to mount an external system: mount.nfs: res_query.c:262: __libc_res_nquery: Assertion `(hp != ((void *)0)) && (hp2 != ((void *)0))' failed. I have executed both the NFS Server and NFS Client scripts on both machines. I also receive: systemd-fstab-generator[2988]: Checking was requested for "/home", but it is not a device in dmesg on both machines. messages on both machines. The lines ion my fstab are: dfpc50:/ /mnt/dfpc50 nfs rw,user,dev,exec,noauto,soft,timeo=10,retrans=10,bg,intr,retry=5,rsize=8192,wsize=8192 0 0 dfpc50:/home /mnt/dfpc50_home nfs rw,user,dev,exec,noauto,soft,timeo=10,retrans=10,bg,intr,retry=5,rsize=8192,wsize=8192 0 0 The lines in /etc/exports are: / 192.168.7.0/255.255.255.0(rw,no_root_squash,insecure,sync,no_subtree_check,no_all_squash) /home 192.168.7.0/255.255.255.0(rw,no_root_squash,insecure,sync,no_subtree_check,no_all_squash) All this appears to work going one way, but not the other. Any ideas on what the problem is, or what (hp != ((void *)0)) && (hp2 != ((void *)0)) would signify? [opensuse] new issue with 42.3 oss repo

So, as I wrote on the other thread, here is something new that came up. I am trying to install a limited version of 42.3 in a virtual machine, and there was a problem with one of the repositories. It was the OSS repository at this location: http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/leap/42.3/repo/oss/ Specifically, whenever it would get to this file, it would time out: http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/leap/42.3/repo/oss/suse/setup/des… I couldn't get it to get past this. So I followed Carlos' suggestion from my other thread, and in the repos.d file for this, I changed it to the following mirror: http://ftp.jaist.ac.jp/pub/Linux/openSUSE/distribution/leap/42.3/repo/oss/ Then I ran zypper ref and it all updated. Hi, Just installed a new 42.3 system, and wanted to compile some of our software on it. Unfortunately I get shuttle2: # zypper se --provides 'pkgconfig(libjpeg)' No matching items found. TW would offer libjpeg62-devel and libjpeg8-devel. Why don't the leap dev packages contain a libjpeg.pc? [opensuse] update repo very slow

This morning trying to refresh my repositories, the refresh was getting hung up on updating the repo at http://download.opensuse.org/update/leap/42.2/oss/repodata/. I switched from zypper to yast, and started monitoring the update, and it turns out this file was the one that was going very slow, in the repodata subdirectory. http://download.opensuse.org/update/leap/42.2/oss/repodata/cfa171ff1eeec497… So why would that be? The file is listed at a size of 13M, and another file listed at 9.2M seemed to take only the normal time of a few seconds to download. [opensuse] openSUSE LEAP 42.3 on Lenovo S21e laptop

Updated from LEAD 42.1 to 42.3 and lost the wireless (BroadComm BC43142) Previously I got the wireless working by installing the broadcom-wl and broadcom-wl-kmp-default packages from Pacman. I did that (transferring the files via USB thumb drive). However - still no wireless. [opensuse] Problems loading opensuse on 4TB USB drive on 42.3

I purchased a 4TB Seagate Backup Plus hard drive. I have experienced problems with reliable booting on other of my USB drives, so attempted to palace an opensuse system on the new 4TB drive as an experiment. I used a 42.3 cdrom installation media. It created partition 1 without my input, BIOS boot. I realize that the MBR boot cannot exceed 2TB, so was not surprised at this. I usually have swap in partition 1, so for this drive I place swap at the end of the dis after the XFS /home partition. After the installation I booted and received: error: unknown filesystem entering rescue mpode Grub rescue I examined the partitions from my running system: Device Start End Sectors Size Type /dev/sda1 2048 16382 14335 7M BIOS boot /dev/sda2 16384 104871934 104855551 50G Microsoft basic data /dev/sda3 104871936 7792859134 7687987199 3.6T Microsoft basic data /dev/sda4 7792897920 7814000189 21102270 10.1G Microsoft basic data Why do you think this USB file system is loaded as sda. My other USB drives come up sdc, after my two installed hard drives sda and sdb. Is there something I need to write into the BIOS boot partition, and why didn't the 42.3 system installer do it? Any assistance would be appreciated. I hope these questions are not too simple. Sometimes I miss a switch in the GUI, or something equally as trivial. [opensuse] Impressions

I am unsubscribing again, but just wanted to say 2 or three things. I mean, I am happy to see that the OpenSUSE mailing list is at least a lot more busy than the Ubuntu one. OpenSUSE always seemed to have a much larger following strangely enough but maybe that is also because it more a community thing of a real community instead of one artificially created by a company. One the other hand -- well and I could also say that in the past of course OpenSUSE had a great community wiki that really felt like a collection of random people feeling welcome and doing their thing. However, participation is now a commodity. But anyway, back to topic. It troubles me to see that... Basic computer problems such as attaining an IP address or being able to log in, having graphical log in errors, ... I mean to say that if you cannot cover the basics in life, you will never get to the higher things. If you spend your every day hunting, you will never get to some writing, know what I'm saying? The recent debate apparently with dear Linda about rescue environments not being usable by the average person. If you cannot cover the basics then what good can come of the higher level functions? I wish the time would one day come for Linux where support requests were for applications or more advanced stuff. For how to modify the system... ...instead of getting it running ... When I use Windows I do not frequent Windows mailing lists or forums. The thing just works and keeps working most of the time. There are some forums were very mundane problems are voiced; I stay away from these forums. It would be the equivalent of constantly having to deal with people complaining their electricity doesn't work, just because you own a house. Of course Microsoft is trying to render itself extinct by forcing people in due time to pay monthly fees for everything. And I don't know much about Apple but it also sees fans leaving. Due to exorbitant prices in that case, but anyway. Microsoft is in fact in the process of making Linux (or a free, community-owned system) the only possibility. To think that it would suicide. But anyway. Even so it upsets me that the daily things people on Linux mailing lists deal with are so basic and mundane, troubleshooting the lowest cores of the system. Sorry to insult here but to me it is the equivalent of endless worry. Basic stuff should just work. I personally feel the same way I think Linda does. The problem space is getting bigger, not smaller. There are more things that can go wrong now, than in the past. I used OpenSUSE from about 2001 I believe and then later again from about 2009 for a while. I long for the days when stuff was simple and overseeable. When software had the equivalent feeling of the cartoons of the 80s: slow and sane. And now: everything a hyper panic. People these days cannot stand watching these cartoons. Of the 80s. Don't have the patience for it. Everything is so slow-paced we can't believe it. But it also means sanity. Peace and tranquility. I hope this for Linux. But I notice that the underbelly is rumbling and maybe we ate something wrong. That's all I wanted to say: I am a bit shocked by the kinds of troubleshooting that comes by. That's all.
