[opensuse] Alt-F2 even more screwed up KDE on 42.3

I while ago, I started a thread about how pressing Alt-F2# etc. no longer opened a man page. Now even Alt-F2 Man:/ no longer works. Instead of the man page opening, I get a blank Seamonkey window. In addition, something like google.com now opens up Gwenview, instead of going the web site. I now have to specify www.google.com. I wish the devs would quit trying to fix something that's not broken. [opensuse] can't see Android/sshelper in dolphin

Hello, Since google decided that they should be the only one with full access to my mobiles data, it got really complicated to access the data on my android mobile phone. ESftp does not work anymore, and so I installed sshelper. This worked once, but now I have upgraded to leap 42.3 and updated my android 7.0 on a Samsung galaxy S6, and I can't see the phone in dolphin anymore... Before I could click in dolphin on "network" and one of the showed links opened a terminal on the phone to which I could copy my rsync command. Now under "network" there is nothing. When I try from the computer "ssh mobiles-ip-number" it says "access denied", the same happens when I type a rsync command, of course. On the mobile phone I can type the rsync command and it works, but that is very complicated, as I have to type all the text and numbers and pathes on the phones keyboard, making it very complicated and error prone. I cannot use copy/paste and haven't found the key that would let me repeat or change a previously typed command... So, in principle sshelper works, but I cannot use it from the computers side. It would be enough if I could ssh to the mobile in console, so I can type the commands on the desktop, but as said, I don't get a ssh connection in this direction. I Guess it is just something I have to type, but what? Thanks for your hints! [opensuse] VPN failure with v42.3

My university provides a script to establish a VPN connection before I can log in. It is based on Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client. It has worked (and continues to work) fine with openSuSE v13.2 and v42.2. But it fails with v42.3. Thwe error message is: >> state: Connecting >> notice: Establishing VPN session... gzip: stdin: unexpected end of file /tmp/vpn.BRkMjn/vpndownloader: error while loading shared libraries: libpangox-1.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory >> notice: Connection attempt has failed. >> error: AnyConnect was not able to establish a connection to the specified secure gateway. Please try connecting again. >> state: Disconnected None of the 3 SuSE OS's have libpangox . There are 'xft', 'ft2', 'cairo', and empty versions, but no 'x' . openvpn is installed, but I have not tried it. openconnect is also available and the description suggests it may work with Cisco. Does anyone know what the compatabilities are? BTW. I reinstalled v42.2 from my original DVD, with the same rpms (updated) as before, and then encountered the same failure. I used the export/import features of Yast, which has always been a good way to restore an installation. Going from v42.2 to v42.3 is a broken process. [opensuse] Cannot install rsyslog under Leap 42.3

According to the README file that comes in /var/log it says I should be able to install rsyslog to run alongside the fancy journal - "Syslog implementations such as syslog-ng or rsyslog may be installed side-by-side with the journal and will continue to function the way they always did." Yet when I try, using YaST2, I am getting the following ominous error message - "systemd-logger-228-29.1.x86_64 conflicts with namespace:otherproviders(syslog) provided by rsyslog-8.24.0-1.3.x86_64" My choices are to either deinstall systemd_logger-228-29.1.x86_64 (sounds like a bad idea to my uneducated eyes) or not to install rsyslog which conflicts with my intentions because that is exactly what I am trying to do, install it! So, if I blow away the systemd-logger will I also lose the ability to use the fancy journal logging ability? Or encounter some other nasty surprise later on? Thought I better ask before I do something dumb, as I was expecting rsyslog to install without a whimper... [opensuse] Little editor project updated (including build for Leap 42.3)

All, Just a note that the little gtkwrite editor project I've been toying with is now available for 13.1 - Leap 42.3. Latest updates include open/new spawns separate instances of editor, GIO file monitoring to protects against modification by foreign source, EOL detection and conversion LF, CRLF, CR, recent file chooser on toolbar after gtk2 bugfix (the error can be ignored until the next gtk2 update is released - it was harmless) Additional light and dark syntax highlight styles are provided, and a host of other additions that escape memory but are captured in the commit log. Currently building and running on 13.1 - Leap 42.3, Archlinux, Ubuntu, Debian (and Debian/Jessie on Raspberry Pi), Win7 and Win10. If you want to tinker with it and provide feedback, rpms are available at: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/drankinatty/ If you want to toy with the code on github, it is: https://github.com/drankinatty/gtkwrite/tree/master development branch is: https://github.com/drankinatty/gtkwrite/tree/gtkwdev If you are interested in gtk programming, this code picks up where most other tutorials end. [opensuse] How bad are these Machine Check Errors?

I have had some strange problems with some boots. Relevant hardware listed as: CPU: Intel Core i7-4980HQ (Quad Core, 8 threads, 6MB Cache, 2.8GHZ, with 4GHZ turbo boost) Memory: 32GB Dual Channel DDR3L 1600mhz RAM (8gb x 4)Storage: 128GB sda1 1 1TB ATA WDC WD10JPVX-75J sda2 1 1TB ATA TOSHIBA MQ01ABD sda3 1 1TB MSATA Samsung SSD I boot from sda3, Win10 is on sda1, and another openSuse is currently on sda2. Anyone know if the above MCEs pose a threat? I can replace memory. but CPU is soldered in, so would have to replace motherboard to change it. [opensuse] How to get install DVD for 42.3?

I came back from a trip and wanted to transfer my photos from the camera to Google Photos, as I had done in June. I transferred them first to my Leap 42.2 desktop. I found that digikam could no longer transfer the files to Google Photos, apparently due to a change to the API. There was no other version of digikam for 42.2, so I would have to upgrade to 42.3. I downloaded the .iso file for Leap 42.3. But when I tried to burn it to a DVD, I got some error messages from k3b that direct burning was not permitted in my (v42.2) version. I tried to use the cdrecord application, but it also failed. In short, the process I have always used for downloading a .iso file and burning it to a DVD on the latest (and fully updated) openSuSE version, that is available prior to a new release, does not work.
