[opensuse] openSUSE LEAP 42.3 on Lenovo S21e laptop
Updated from LEAD 42.1 to 42.3 and lost the wireless (BroadComm BC43142) Previously I got the wireless working by installing the broadcom-wl and broadcom-wl-kmp-default packages from Pacman. I did that (transferring the files via USB thumb drive). However - still no wireless. While the device appears in lspci output I can't seem to find any evidence of the device attempting to be initialized. -- Adam Tauno Williams mailto:awilliam@whitemice.org GPG D95ED383 Systems Administrator, Python Developer, LPI / NCLA

So... If I: modprobe -r wl modprobe wl ... the wireless interface starts! No, the complete sequence is: modprobe -r bcma modprobe -r wl modprobe wl But the module bcm is listed in the Broadcomm blacklist file /etc/modprobe.d/50-broadcomm-wl-blacklist.conf So why isn't it blacklisted? -- Adam Tauno Williams mailto:awilliam@whitemice.org GPG D95ED383 Systems Administrator, Python Developer, LPI / NCLA -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

So why isn't it blacklisted? What is blacklisted in the file ? "bcma" or "bcm" ? Did you run mkinitrd after installing the broadcomm-wl driver ?

Adding modprobe.blacklist=bcma to the kernel boot params resolved the issue; the wireless started at boot.
Did you run mkinitrd after installing the broadcomm-wl driver ?
That was probably the root of the issue. -- Meetings Coordinator, Michigan Association of Railroad Passengers 537 Shirley St NE Grand Rapids, MI 49503-1754 Phone: 616.581.8010 E-mail: awilliam@whitemice.org GPG#D95ED383 Web: http://www.marp.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
