Moving a machine from 42.1/LXDE(gtk) to 42.2/XFCE by fresh install.
From the log:
systemd[1]: Received SIGRTMIN+21 from PID 306 (plymouthd).
display-manager[1419]: error: unexpectedly disconnected from boot
status daemon
systemd[1]: plymouth-start.service: Main process exited, code=dumped,
status=11/SEGV
systemd[1]: plymouth-start.service: Unit entered failed state.
systemd[1]: plymouth-start.service: Failed with result 'core-dump'.
But the machine boots fine, including asking for the two different
required LUKS passwords, then the user password, and then into the gui.
What is? Thanks.

Hello all.
I have a server in which I can't manage cups using yast. CUPS works
without any problem on http://localhost:631 and lpr, lpq, lpstat, etc
are OK. However yast complains that the cups server is not reachable on
localhost. Any idea? How is yast accessing cups?
Tnx
Marco

Hi, I was trying to update to kmail5 (current version Leap 42.2). However the result was so problematic (flickering, no possibility to use menue, malfunction of the IMAP) that I turned to Kmail4. But now it does not work anymore. a) filters do not work at all b) when trying to send the programm gives the following error message. Impossible to recover d-bus interface of the mailfilteragent. I would like to know if this can be fixed by starting some service or by installing some more rpm, maybe some forgotten dependency not drawn in automaticly? I would have tried to use Kmail5 / Kontact5 but as long as my system becomes a flickering discotec and no menue whatsoever in KDE can be used (because they all collapse within seconds, and the flicker of all buttons, etc) this will be difficult. So at least I would like to have the status quo back. Thank you.

HI
According to yast, the version of kdenlive i have installed is 16.12.3-1.1 but
the debug-info/source/lang (not installed) are for 17.04.1-1.1 -
The latest version, according the their website, for download is 17.04.1.
The instructions for an opensuse 42.1/tumbleweed install, also according the
their website, is "zypper install kdenlive5".
So has the binary name changed and does anyone know when the binary version
match the debug-info/source/lang files?
I don't seem to have some features as shown on some youtube videos of versions
earlier than mine (its very possible its a config change i need to do).
Regards
Ian

Hi - I think I will stick my neck out a bit and make an offer to see if
there is any interest in Bacula. (maybe I can give back a bit to
openSuSE for all it has done for me over the years..) I just spent quite
a bit of effort getting Bacula 7.4 up an running on all my openSuSE Leap
42.2 systems and so far it now seems to be working pretty well. (I am
using it with the MySQL/MariaDB database and make no claims on how to
set it up for other databases.) I noted that Bacula no longer seems to
be supported in the openSuSE distribution (dunno why, probably lack of
interest or time to maintain it?)
So, if there is any interest in it, and if some kind guru wants to help
guide me along the path, I would be willing to share what it took to get
it working and/or perhaps put it in a repository somewhere so that
others could use it as well. Caveats however - I have absolutely no idea
how, nor have I ever done anything like put together a package for
software, so I am a complete novice in that regards. I did not make any
modifications to the actual code for Bacula, nor did I have to build it
from source, but I did have to add/modify a number of the scripts and
config files associated with it to get it to work. I have it running as
systemd services and think I kept it pretty much configured/installed on
my systems in the openSuSE way of doing things, but again that might
require some verification from an openSuSE guru because I do not claim
to be any sort of expert on how openSuSE designers want to
model/organize software. Also, I am doing disk based backups over a
network and have not tested or done anything with tape drives so cannot
speak to that. And I mostly use the monkey see monkey do approach and
rely on some blind luck at times! ;-)
FYI - I started with the bacula rpm package I found at
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/j-engel/openSUSE_Leap_42.2/…
Any interest/takers? How should I proceed? Marc....

Hello,
I try to connect my garmin gps to vitualbox (windows), but it needs the
extension pack.
Infos found on the web are all outdated and links broken.
How can I install the extension pack for normal openSUSE Virtualbox
version? I have the Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-5.1.22-115126
downloaded (and the version matches), but there is no installer. May I
simply copy the file and where?
thanks

My experience and others of KDE5 or Plasma on Leap 42.2 is numerous problems
with the desktop. I see fragments trailing the mouse cursor. Is anyone using
XFCE on Leap 42.2? Are you having problems with the DE?
TIA,
Jeffrey

I have a computer with two hard disks, on one of which both openSUSE
42.2 and 13.2 are installed and on the other a different GNU/Linux
system (Linux From Scratch); on booting, the grub2 boot screen (which
comes from os42.2) showed all three systems -- till yesterday, after I
updated os42.2 for the first time in around a week; after rebooting only
os42.2 and os13.2 were listed on the boot screen. I also manually ran
`grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg' from os42.2 and the output also
showed just the two openSUSE systems. I noticed that among yesterday's
updates were grub2 and os-prober, presumably
grub2-2.02~beta2-94.3.1.x86_64.rpm from 08-May-2017 and
os-prober-1.61-20.3.1.x86_64.rpm from 06-May-2017. Has anyone else run
into this problem? Could either of those updates have caused it?

Hello,
What's the driver support situation in leap 42.2 for USB Wi-Fi dongles
with the RTL8811AU chipset?
There are lots of cheap dongles like that available from China, and
I'm thinking of getting one of them.
