[opensuse] rsync is failing

Hi all, Does anybody else encounterd problems when rsyncing' repositories? I use to rsync against http://ftp5.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/repositories/ but since this morning it is failing (no warning or error, just no reply) Strange thing is, that via http everything is visible, and there is no maintenance sceduled or troubles reported. [opensuse] RIFF / AVI metadata viewer

Hi, I am wanting some software to view metadata in avi files. I have found showriff, but there does not seem to be much else. I noted that the XAWTV project contains a showriff.c file, but I cannot find any "nice" software to browse and view the data chunks in an avi file. (I know the 'standards' for RIFF data are not fantastic. I will deal with the data chunk / BLOB as a separate issue!!!) [opensuse] Entity Relationships Tool

I need an entity relationship designer tool, if there is one available on opensuse through the repositories. I don't see one. Supposedely Oracle has one but I'd rather not mess with Oracle if I can. [opensuse] Still Resolution problems

I have gone back to 12.3. I installed 13.1 and it made the resolution 1600 x something. But the cursor was invisible so I couldn't change the resolution in KDE settings. 12.3 only give me 720x360 but I am coping. I can't get to the grub menu because I have to use the installation cd to boot the hard disk, so I can't enter nomodeset. I can't get to yast. I will ask about that in a separate email. Hi Martin, I knew the existence of devel:tools:scm/etckeeper by your email. I installed devel:tools:scm/etckeeper to openSUSE13.1. But I could not reproduce your issue. The devel:tools:scm/etckeeper seems same as utilities/etckeeper. And etckeeper-zypp-plugin s are same too. I thought about 2 possibility. 1) Did you config git ? git config --global user.name 'YOUR Name' git config --global user.email 'your-email(a)example.org' sudo cp -i ~/.gitconfig ~root/ sudo etckeeper init 2) Your etckeeper-zypp-plugin did timeout. (/var/log/zypper.log or /var/log/YaST2/y2log ...) [opensuse] Something changed some KDE items which were previously displayed

A couple of weeks ago I did the normal 'zypper refresh/patch/up' which completed without (any apparent) problems. However, something was installed or something was replaced which changed the way KDE 4.14.0.x works (or rather now does not work). The first thing which I noticed was that I can no longer right-click on the desktop, select LEAVE>RESTART or SHUT DOWN and have this choice performed. Selecting LEAVE starts to dim the desktop but does not bring up the menu where one can select SHUT DOWN etc - all I end up with is a slightly dimmed screen. There is no way to either RESTART or SHUT DOWN the computer using this method. Clicking on the screen brings it back to its 'original' brightness. A similar thing occurs when one clicks on KICKOFF and selects LEAVE - one cannot Shut Down or Restart. At the moment, the ONLY way (apart from pressing the OFF switch on the computer box) is to open TERMINAL, "login" as root and enter 'HALT -P'. Earlier today I had to go out and, without thinking, did LOCK SCREEN. I could not 'unlock' the screen in the normal way; the mouse was active but that was all. The only way I regained control over the system was to hit the BIG RED BUTTON :-( . One other thing re all this. I have lost the SYSTEM SETTINGS icon/widget/whatever in KICKOFF. It's kapoot, poof, gone.....nowhere to be seen. To get back to "normality" I tried deleting the '~/.kde4' sub-directory but while this regenerates a new ./kde4 all of the above hassles remain :-( . Does anyone know, please, what has to be done to get back to what should be regarded as the "normal" KDE 4.14.0.x situation? [opensuse] Regenerating KDE menus

I came across an entry in "my little black book" which stated that executing '/opt/kde3/bin/kbuildsycoca' rebuilt the KDE menus. Now, in oS 13.1 I can see that this item exists - even though I am NOT running KDE 3 but have KDE 4. I don't want to totally corrupt my 13.1 installation so I am asking if running 'opt/kde3/bin/kbuidsycoca' would recreate the menus or would it cause a flash of light followed by a puff of smoke from the keyboard? (BTW, while '/opt/kde3/ ' *is* still to be seen in oS 13.1 it is not in 13.2/Factory .) If running 'opt/kde3/bin/kbuildsycoca' no longer recreates KDE menus what then does recreate them?
