[opensuse] opensuse 13.1 annoying limitations

As per the subject, IMHO this is the list: 1) BLUETOOTH doesn't works completely 2) Power Management "sucks" with laptops 3) Totem warnings the user to download plug-ins which are not necessary or which cannot get downloaded and installed I consider all the above as limitations in a modern O.S. [opensuse] LibreOffice User Interface does not see gtk theme - howto fix?

All, I got LO installed by default, but also installed OO to make sure there was continuity in the office templates between the 3x versions and the current 4x. To may my great chagrin, the UI colors of OO and LO are completely different: http://www.3111skyline.com/dl/ss/suse/oo_lo-ui_differences.jpg Obviously OO is picking up the gtk theme and LO isn't. Is there any way to tell LO to use the system colors and theme? -- David C. [opensuse] Libreoffice NFS

I have tried opening several libreoffice documents today from my NFS share on my NAS and every file asks to open in read only. Copied to the local HDD, the file opens fine. I have tried turning off file locking inlibre office and it makes no difference. This was working a couple of days ago and the issue has appear on my opensuse 13.1 laptop and desktop and on a few ubuntu machines at work. [opensuse] Page break in office suites

Hi all, In every month I get a kind of form, an Excel sheet which should be filled and undersigned in the last row and then printed. The original document is created in MS Office 2010 AFAIK, but is saved in *.xls, not xlsx format. When I open it in LibreOffice, it looks just fine, but when it comes to printing, the last row, the undersign, slips to a new page. I was advised to use Kingsoft Office. This originally Chinese package was praised to the heavens in terms of MS compatibility and usability, so I gave it a try. Hmmm. My sheet fell apart, and while it recognized that it was edited with Arial Narrow font, the typography was simply ugly. The letters was in different distances from each other. I read a lot, including forums, so I met Softmakers Freeoffice. I installed it. The outlook is a bit vintage, but that should not be a problem. Opened my document, looked fine, but as for LO, the last row slipped to a new page ( the original document fits on a single A4 page). So is there a workaround? I would cling to LO, if possible. What is the reason that is still cannot render a not too complicated MS document correctly. What about Calligra suite (though it does not accept Okular's latest version, so I did not installed yet)? Any hints and opinions are welcome. [opensuse] Wayland?

I've seen 'libwayland' come up a few times recently when running 'zypper up'. What is the status of the Wayland project wrt openSuse? I'm thinking that it would be nice to have a graphics server that supported Qt or GTK directly rather than the deep layers of X. I'm not convince Wayland is that, but lets face it, X was a solution to a problem of the 1980s, long before Pcs, long before the powerful GPUs we have today, long before the powerful CPUs and their advanced instruction sets. -- Warning: Klein Bottle. [opensuse] yast2 - colors inverted in some columns with dark theme

All, In yast on 13.1, the colors no longer consistently follow the color scheme set. I use a dark theme and in 11.4 the yast colors followed the color scheme without issue. In 13.1 it is hit-or-miss on a column-by-column basis. I still have the 11.4 install on a separate disk, so if there is something I need to check and compare, I can. -- David C. [opensuse] ssh through a firewall

Hi all, The subject sounds innocent enough. I am trying to ssh from an openSUSE 10.0 system in to an openSUSE 11.2 system. There is a firewall at the 11.2 end. It is not the firewall on the 11.2 itself. That is fully disabled. It is some other device. I told them to open port 22 (tcp and udp). But I still cannot log in. I get the initial ssh questions about the host, and then the password prompt. However, my password is not accepted. If I ask them to open all ports at their end, I can log in just fine. I am, once again, confused. Any ideas? [opensuse] Recommended - small lightweight DMS - to be able to catalog/search files by tags, type, etc.

All, I'm looking for a small light document management system that will allow me to catalog 1000s of miscellaneous files into a searchable list. This is primarily for all the code and script snippets I've collected over the past 15 years but I would also like to include the myriad of little tricks/tips files I've saved and squirreled away. A smart directory layout and grep have always fit the bill, but I've got to the point where I know I have a snippet of X I've saved, but *where is it, and what was that function called?* (sound familiar?) NO - I don't want beagle (or anything like it). I don't want some full-text scan and index of all files. Those are miserable for code and I don't want some 200 Meg index laying around somewhere. I'm looking for something that will just hold the filename, a description, and then possibly a list of user-defined tags I could assign and filter by. For code doxygen is nice, but worthless for small tips/tricks, howto, or general readme type files. For general tips/tricks/readme/config type info, basket has been great. I've looked into many of the so-called DMS packages, e.g. opendocman, kimios, LetoDMS, logicaldoc, owndms, SeedDMS, xinco, etc., but most are like sledgehammers for swatting this fly. I don't mind if it is a database backend or flat-files, but I want something simple to add information to and simple to browse and update. Does anybody have any favorite way to solve this "I'm getting to old to remember where every file is" problem? It doesn't even have to be a DMS per-se, if somebody has a slick way to cut down the time spent playing the "where is that file" game -- that's what I'm looking for. What the ideal would be would be something that used a small database, like sqlite3 to hold the filenames, descriptions, keywords, and tags; quick logic to add all files in a dir matching some simple extension pattern; then most importantly a quick/efficient way to browse the list of files collected and assign descriptions and tags (something like mc - view/edit); along with a quick query interface to find the stuff when your done. It could even be a command line query. So on the wild chance somebody already has a favorite silver-bullet to solve this problem, I thought I'd ask. -- David C. Hello, with opensuse-13.1 the acroread PDF reader has been dropped. There was a really convenient function in the acroread print dialog: print the current view and fit it to the printable area, auto-rotating and centering it if needed. Does anybody know any program with a similar functionality?
