[opensuse] migrating 12.3 etc. to SSD

Hi All, Is there anything special I should know about migrating my daily 'workhorse' openSUSE 12.3 installation over to an SSD, such as any filesystem(s) to use or avoid? Procedural tips & tricks or common 'gotchas'? I'm otherwise extremely good at moving installations around (drive to drive, partition to partition) but this is my first SSD. The situation is further somewhat complicated by the need to combine three separately installed OS's (on two drives) onto this one SSD, including one previously dormant but recently resurrected Windows Vista Home Premium (now a work requirement.) In case it matters, the SSD is a Samsung MZ-7PD512BW. Any and all links, comments & feedback will be welcome. [opensuse] kdewallet troubles

Mozilla's recent kneeling down before the gay hatemongers has pressed me to abandon my long dependence upon Firefox and Thunderbird. I've long used Konqueror as my primary file manager, so extending it to web use has been no problem; and advice from friends has induced me to try Kontact for email. Unfortunately, I somehow got Kontact wrapped up in kdewallet, and now can't seem to get out of it. If I ever knew, I don't now know kwallet's password, and looking into the kwallet manual told me I could open kwalletmanager and maybe do something to recover. It won't open at all. I click on the icon in the application launcher, and nothing happens. I type "KWalletManager & in a terminal, and get "command nt found". But when I try to do anything at all in Kontact, I get a wallet popup demanding the kwallet password. I tried deleting the email account, but now can't create the replacement. [opensuse] Flash player problem

I'm having a problem displaying flash files. In Firefox (27.0.1) when I attempt to display a flash file it displays a message that I need to install flash player. The problem is that flash player IS installed. I recall seeing some messages recently on this list or the factory list regarding this problem but have not been able to find it again. The solution was to remove some internal flash files for Firefox. Those files were either in /usr or /var and had an extension of *.stw (?) but haven't been able to find those either. It would be appreciated if someone could either supply the file-names & location or point me to that message thread. [opensuse] configuring squirrelmail on 13.1

Hello :-) I try to configure squirrelmail on openSUSE 13.1 I could do that some years ago on 11.4. Squirrel is available from yast, so no install problems, and it runs. But, when login ad user, I get the famous "Could not create initial preference file! /home/data/squirrelmail/data/ should be writable by the user wwwrun" I already setup the correct ownership and permissions. the default folders (in /var/local/...) do not exist at install time, so yast do not care of them. [opensuse] yast service manager enable active

Hello :-) I wonder what is *exactly* the meaning of active/inactive and enable/disable in yast service manager I ask this because some services are disabled, but active. just after boot (for example apparmor). No... Simplicity, especially elegant, fool-proof simplicity and Germans are never a combination you will ever come across outside of extremely poorly-written fiction. It just isn't in their national character. Best example -- German tanks and artillery produced in the period of 1943-45. All WAY over-engineered. Masterworks of engineering prowess, all of which were WAY WAY WAY overly-complicated and way too demanding of maintenance- and operator-level time, attention and labor to actually accomplish the tasks which they were supposed to accomplish (i.e. a single artillery piece which required not only an entire BATTALION and the full-time attention of a colonel to operate, but also required a RAILROAD ENGINEERINg BATTALION to even put the damned thing into position... all to deliver less than 20 artillery shells/day to the target -- where as run-of-the-mill truck-towed 75mm~150mm howitzer and guns could deliver hundreds of rounds/day PER artillery piece, and a battalion of men could man DOZENS of these pieces, AND even one of these smaller howitzers could destroy dozens of enemy positions before the 450mm, twin railroad-track railroad gun could even acquire one target with spotting rounds). Germans should stick with what they are good at -- designing and building complicated things that SHOULD be complicated, or which are inherently complicated. [opensuse] How to install cacti on openSUSE

Glenn has been working on getting cacti up and running for a while now, with various difficulties. Yesterday I needed a distraction, so I thought I would take a shot at it. Here is what I did: Environment: I used "webhost", a test-server which already had apache2 installed. For mysql, I used our central sandbox database. I also set up the website name in our DNS: "cacti.example.com". On the webhost: I created /srv/www/vhosts/cacti/{htdocs,logs} I created /etc/apache2/vhosts.d/cacti.conf: <VirtualHost 1.2.3.4> ServerName cacti.example.com serveralias cacti DocumentRoot /srv/www/vhosts/cacti/htdocs ErrorLog /srv/www/vhosts/cacti/logs/error_log <Directory /srv/www/vhosts/cacti/htdocs> AllowOverride Fileinfo Indexes Require all granted </Directory> AddDefaultCharset UTF-8 php_value default_charset "UTF-8" </VirtualHost> I downloaded the latest tarball from the cacti website and untarred it into /srv/www/vhosts/cacti/htdocs. This created a directory called "cacti-0.8.8b" containing the cacti file tree. I moved the tree into /srv/www/vhosts/cacti/htdocs and removed "cacti-0.8.8b". On my database host, I did the following: create new database called "db_cacti". grant access to "cactiuser(a)webhost.example.com". Import the database setup from cacti.sql (from the tarball). Back on "webhost", I installed some extra php5 modules - gd, snmp, sockets. Then I amended include/config.php with the database details and the url_path - because I don't use a "cacti/" directory, I used url_path="/". The cacti instructions also say to change ownership of "rra/" and "log/", which I changed to wwwrun (apache userid). I'm not sure who will be writing to those directories though. Finally, I fired up "http://cacti.example.com/install/index.php" in Firefox. I checked the various values (all in the green), and got returned to the login screen. Then I logged in with admin/admin and changed the admin password.
