[opensuse] Laptop recommendations

I'm thinking of getting a new laptop. Currently the wife and I share an old Dell which is setup for dual-booting Winblows and openSUSE. We frequently end up bargaining on who gets to use it on a given day. I would like a laptop that can run Linux well, has supported hardware, high quality video (CAD drawings), is light weight, and preferably under $US 1000. Brand is not high on the priority list but customer service is. What laptops are list members using and how was your experience (installation & use). [opensuse] Grub won't re-install after substituting an mdadm raid1 disk

Hello all, After substituting an mdadm raid1 disk, the system fail to boot automatically. The system is an OpenSuSE 13.1 with grub 0.97 (the first version of grub). If i try to reconfigure grub with yast, it parses something wrong, and the result is a wrong menu.lst, as the following: default 0 timeout 8 ##YaST - activate ###Don't change this comment - YaST2 identifier: Original name: linux### title openSUSE 13.1 kernel root=/dev/md0 video=1280x1024 resume=/dev/disk/by-id/md-uuid-96aaf4c0:5364150c:1304df88:3950f929 splash=silent quiet showopts vga=0x317 initrd As you can see, it miss the kernel name, initrd name, and the root parameter is in the wrong position. If i look into the configuration of grub from Yast, i don't have /dev/md0 as root partition from the drop down menu, i think that is the problem, but i don't know why Yast don't see /dev/md0. 13.1 Hi I used yast to disable both nginx and php-fpm starting on my laptop, but they still start when I switch it on e.g. Yast > System Services (Runlevel):Services > nginx > Disable I want to start them only when I choose. In my humble opinion the actual Yast GUI (which if I'm not wrong is gtk based) looks uglier in comparison to QT version. Thanks. [opensuse] Q: xorg.conf BusID format inconsistencies

I see in docco and example BusID "PCI:1:0:0" but when I run lspci I get a different format: 00:0d.0 Can I simply drop the leading zeros and change the "." to ":" ? Why this inconsistency? The intention is that they don't track my normal activity so easily when I'm logged into google, and don't track my internet browse with my name. So, I start two firefox instances, simultaneously: firefox -P default firefox -P Google To tests things, in one of them, I delete one bookmark. I go to the other instance... and it is also deleted!
