I purchased an Epson XP-310 multifunction printer / scanner yesterday and set it up as a network appliance (Wi-Fi.) Setting up the printer side was straightforward but the scanner side took a fair bit of sleuthing and some trial and error. First, this device has only two interfaces, USB and Wi-Fi. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for connecting it to your network. Follow the steps, below, once that's done: DOWNLOAD packages (x86_64 64-bit versions shown) from: <http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?oid=227224&BV_UseB…> epson-inkjet-printer-escpr-1.4.0-1lsb3.2.x86_64.rpm iscan-2.29.3-1.usb0.1.ltdl7.x86_64.rpm iscan-data-1.27.0-1.noarch.rpm iscan-network-nt-1.1.1-1.x86_64.rpm MOVE packages to a new / empty temporary directory and INSTALL: # zypper in *.rpm --> This command will automatically fulfill dependencies. EDIT /etc/sane.d/epkowa.conf --> Comment out 'usb' and 'scsi' detection (unless you also have a SCSI or USB scanner) by inserting a leading hash mark (#) as needed. --> ADD line "net XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX" (without the quotes) in network scanner section. Obviously, replace "XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX" with the IP address you assigned to the printer in your router. EDIT /etc/sane.d/net.conf --> Enter the printer's IP address in it's own line at the bottom of the file. E.g. "192.168.1.10" (without the quotes) EDIT /etc/sane.d/dll.conf --> uncomment the top line "#net" (becomes just "net", without the quotes) RUN YaST -> Scanner module --> SELECT "Scanning via Network..." from the "Options" drop-down list --> verify meta driver 'net' says "No scanner recognized by this driver" --> CLICK "OK" --> CLICK the "Add" button, select "Epson Workforce 310 Series..." --> CLICK "OK" --> CLICK "Continue" at the '64-bit' / 'problematic' warning --> CLICK "OK" Launch "Image Scan! for Linux" (installed above.) This was found on my system under 'Graphics > Scanning'. Put a document on the scanner bed and click the 'Preview' button to test. After upgrading to KDE 4.13, Baloo search extractor keeps shooting up to 100% CPU utilization of 1 of 4 cores, and is creating a lot of disk activity. It's happening at what seems like random intervals when nothing is being done on the system, and it's annoying me and I don't want it to be eating away CPU time. [opensuse] kernel 3.13 and nVidia graphics

Hi there, I tried the kernel 3.13 on openSUSE 13.1 with the proprietary drivers from nVidia. I have problems with suspend to ram, when I wake up the machine I see the mouse cursor, but I cannot unlock the KDE screen lock. The mouse is there, but the screen stays black. And when I switch to a console with alt-ctrl-f1 the screen just stays black, nothing, nada, no prompt, just blank screen. I have to switch back to X using alt-f7. I guess either kernel 3.13 has some issues with nVidia or the nVidia driver has issues. I use nVidia driver version 331.49. Anyone with the same experience? Could the NVIDIA issue I find in GNOME and no other window manager be the result of defaulting to GNOME3 from the install disk rather than GNOME2?? How can I upgrade to GNOME 2 in 13.1??? [opensuse] Availability of KDE 4.13

Dear All, As you might have read on the KDE website or through blogposts, KDE 4.13 was officially released yesterday evening. As indicated KDE 4.13 is currently only available through KDE:Distro:Factory, however the target is to have KDE:Current delivering the KDE 4.13 packages around Friday 25th April. This would allow us to validate if there are any major breakages and to properly prepare the packages for a wider audience. For those that are considering to switch to KDE:Distro:Factory, please keep in mind that this repo will be disabled for oS 13.1 as soon as the KDE 4.13 packages are available through KDE:Current. In first instance we will just disable the builds, however the packages itself will be deleted around 30 April. So if you are currently running KDE:Current it would be wise to wait just a little more than to switch repositories now. [opensuse] Remove server info from Samba share name?

When browsing SMB shares with Konqueror, the server info is included along with the server name, as shown here: Linux (Samba 4.1.6-3.18.1-3208-SUSE-oS13.1-x86_64) That info is not present for Windows shares and also not visible on Windows when viewing Linux shares.
