After i created the scrpit i did as su: chmod -x Sync (where as I called the script "Sync") and then ln -s /etc/init.d/Sync /etc/init.d/rc0.d/K10Sync ln -s /etc/init.d/Sync /etc/init.d/rc6.d/K10Sync The profile of unison includes syncing two local folders of my home user. [opensuse] System not starting!

Hi everyone! I have a serious problem...Since yesterday my system hangs up will start up and does not enter... Actually booting works and i can also see the start screen, but not the screen when the modules and kde is loaded. This is even the same problem with the recovery mode. I took a look inside zypper log if something has been changed - via a life usb system- but nothing which should concern the system. I also took a look at /var/log/messages but also there seems to be no entry with regard to the problem. What might be the problem is that i was trying to get a small script working which should sync some folders, i placed this in /etc/init.d and made it executeable and made symbolic links to this script in rc0.d and rc6.d. That is all. I already deleted the files, but still the same problem... my system hangs up at the point directly after the server directory 389 is reached and is marked with the green OK in the startup screen...Unfortunately I also do not know more... [opensuse] openSUSE-13.1: List installed patches

Does anyone know how to list the patches already installed on an openSUSE-13.1 system? I'd like a detailed output of the patches installed (not the RPMs or files!) similar to that which can be obtained via zypper for available patches. IIRC, there used to be some way to do that on earlier versions of SUSE/openSUSE. It is helpful for me to be able to go back and check to see if the patch for, e.g., a particular CVE or Bugtraq ID, had already been installed on the system. Is this info stored anywhere on the system? If not, is there a way to make it so? [opensuse] Sort directory by date for incremental update

Regular readers will recall that I back up to CD and DVD. Having partitions smaller than 5G makes backing up to CD straight forward. Actually many of the 5G partitions are nowhere near full and two or three of them can go to one DVD. All just drag and drop with K3B. Dontcha just love it! How manual! How unautomated! Now along come my Music partition. Unlike ~/Photography where I can do each year on a partition (and some only need a CD), ~/Music is all-in-one. Yes I could do ~/Music/A-E, ~/Music/F-M, ~/Music/M-S, ~/Music/T-Z but for various reasons I chose not to. It would end up uneven and somewhere in the future I'd need to split one of those and it would get more uneven. So now I'm past the 5G point. I have the backups to that point on one DVD. I just need to backup what I've added since; incremental-ism :-) I'm well aware that I can run find with the "--newer" argument and that is fine for backing up using CPIO (or possibly even rsync) but other than running it and saving the output and then manually step by step though that dragging those directories manually into the K3B workspace, I'm not sure. For some reason there doesn't seem to be a man page for k3b, only the online/embedded KDE help system for it. It would help to know if that file containing the list could be used as a command line argument for a CLI invocation of K3B. The man pages I find on the web imply that is the case. However when I run 'find', as in find /home/anton/Music -maxdepth 1 -type d \ -newer /home/anton/Music/Eagles/Eagles/ \ -print and use the output on the command line invoking k3b I get a long list of popup messages saying it can't open that file. WTF?!? Well sure, some directory names have spaces in them ... But not all. And I get the same if I use "-printf" to make sure the arguments are quoted. And yes, I've used "echo" of the command line generated to make sure it is what I expect it to be. And yes I've tried it generating the list of files rather the directories. Same result. So it seems that k3b can't be invoked with an argument list and an't be 'automated'. [opensuse] reconstructing a boot disk

Hello, one of my servers broke. I have a rsync backup of the hole disk. I can't anymore build a new version of this same distro, obsolete (12.1). However I would prefer to start from the initial disk, because the setup was a bit special and not documented enough. [opensuse] complete failure updating ?

Hello, I had a problem updating a server today. I would like to know if it's an install problem or a hardware problem... I have physical access to the server, but 20 km from my home, so not so easy. What I did was go there with a flash device holding openSUSE 13.1, boot it and ask for update. The original distro was 12.1, so I can't say it was obvious. At first glance all seemed to go pretty well. update (or may I say ugrade?) went on then the computer rebooted... and did reboot the flash device. removing the device got "no system". back to update menu, 1 package to update, got it, reboot without problem and then no more reboot problem. This computer was a gateway. no problem connecting to the net, the gateway worked (access to the net from an other computer). then zypper ref, zypper patch. no problem, patching zypper. again zypper patch an go to an hour long download. near the end of the download, zypper stopped "download.opensuse.org unreachable". No way to get it. go to an other xterm, no more network access. reboot the hole system (including the dsl box). Got the net for two minutes then nothing trying to launch yast/network, I got kernel hoops (black hex lines through the screen). retry, same things. memtest do not see problems after two minutes (I know it may be longer) So I gave up I back to home. so I wonder what is the problem. is it a hardware problem? the booting problem and the kernel bugs may be a symptom, or can this be only due to interrupted software download? without network, I can't update more. may be simply a failing ethernet device (could explain why the kernel problem is only with yast/network thanks for your help jdd -- http://www.dodin.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe(a)opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner(a)opensuse.org
