[opensuse] reorg of network:ha-clustering repo on build.opensuse.org

Hi All, This is just a quick heads-up. We're in the process of reorganising the network:ha-clustering repository on build.opensuse.org. If you don't use any of the software from this repo feel free to stop reading now :) Currently we have: - network:ha-clustering (stable builds for various distros) - network:ha-clustering:Factory (devel project for openSUSE:Factory) This is going to change to: - network:ha-clustering:Stable (stable builds for various distros) - network:ha-clustering:Unstable (unstable/dev, various distros) - network:ha-clustering:Factory (devel project for openSUSE:Factory) This means that if you're currently using packages from network:ha-clustering, you'll need to point to network:ha-clustering:Stable instead (once we've finished shuffling everything around). I'll send another email out when this is done. [opensuse] Cant rename/remove /var/tmp in 12.3?

Hello, in all my linux installations, I used to replace /var/tmp by a symlink to a directory on my main user partition. The intent of this is to ensure that there is no private information on the root partition. With 12.3, this won't work anymore: raven:/ # mv /var/tmp /var/tmp-orig mv: cannot move ‘/var/tmp’ to ‘/var/tmp-orig’: Device or resource busy raven:/ # ls -ld /var/tmp drwxrwxrwt 15 root root 4096 Jul 31 10:41 /var/tmp raven:/ # getfacl /var/tmp getfacl: Removing leading '/' from absolute path names # file: var/tmp # owner: root # group: root # flags: --t user::rwx group::rwx other::rwx raven:/ # df /var/tmp Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on /dev/mapper/cr_sda8 20649592 8361332 11239320 43% / I get the same error when trying to delete. Even rebooting into single user mode won't help. Any ideas why the directory appears to be busy? Even if I remove all the contents of the directory, it still appears to be busy. [opensuse] 64 bit vs 32 bit RAM consumption

In googling the possibility of using a 64 bit kernel on an otherwise 32 bit openSUSE (consensus: don't try it), I found quite a bit of mention of 64 bit apps using twice as much RAM? Is this true? Or is it just misunderstanding arising from 64 bit using twice as many CPU registers to increase its own speed? Or something else? My main system running 32 bit 11.4 has 4GB RAM and is consistently using >50% of RAM for open apps, most of the rest for disk cache, and always around 360MB unused. Would running 64 bit on this system be consuming virtually all RAM for apps, leaving little free for disk cache? FWIW, not all RAM is "cheap". To bring this DDR2 system up to its 8GB max would cost ~$63USD. To replace its 2X2GB sticks with 2X4GB (to free them for RAM upgrade to another system) would cost triple that. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." [opensuse] 12.3 (64bit) Hibernate problem

Hello, I am noticing that hibernate function on opensuse 12.3 is not working as expected: today my notebook has powered-off due battery charge has gone below the limit and system has simply switched-off instead to hibernate. I red quickly some threads on regard and I applied a modification on suspend.conf by enabling "thread=y" but nothing has solved the root problem. I would expect when hibernate works correctly to restore the job from the point it has been freezed and have not to wait a lot of time for hibernate process take to attempt something that resolves to the need of rebooting the system again. Any comments/instructions on this problem? Thanks. [opensuse] puseaudio equalizer and bluetooth headset

Hi there, I installed the pulseaudio equalizer. It gives me a new device named "LADSPA Plugin Multiband EQ on internes Audio Analog Stereo". This makes the EQ work on the standard output which I could connect a standard headphone with 3,5 inch to it. But, I prefer to use my Jabra Halo bluetooth headset (which is a great device by the way). How can I map now the EQ plugin to the bluetooth audio out? How can I make the EQ talk to the bluetooth headphone? Thanx Malte

[opensuse] systemd dependency question

All, I'm hitting my first real systemd problem. This may be a trivial problem, I just don't know what the steps are to fix it. How do I get it to only depend on /srv/maildirs, not all of /srv? btw: I know how to fix the NFS error below. I want to know how to prevent it from killing postfix for no reason. -- details I have postfix setup to deliver mail to the /srv/maildirs tree. It was working before I started experimenting with a NFS mount point I'm trying to setup unrelated to postfix. I'm testing a NFS mount for use with sftp. I've got it doing bind links in the /srv/sftp directory tree. Those bind links may or may be right as I test. Also I currently have /srv_new as the mount point for a NFS share. Postfix should have no dependency on: NFS mount on /srv_new, nor of the bind mounts within /srv/sftp Somehow that is interacting with my postfix setup, but they seem to be conflicting. [opensuse] Latex not working in 12.3

Hello, when running latex in 12.3, I get the following error: $ latex labels.tex This is pdfTeX, Version 3.1415926-2.4-1.40.13 (TeX Live 2012/TeX Live for SUSE Linux) restricted \write18 enabled. /var/lib/texmf/web2c/pdftex/latex.fmt: Permission denied /var/lib/texmf/web2c/pdftex/latex.fmt: Permission denied /var/lib/texmf/web2c/pdftex/latex.fmt: Permission denied /var/lib/texmf/web2c/pdftex/latex.fmt: Permission denied kpathsea: Running mktexfmt latex.fmt fmtutil: format directory `/var/lib/texmf/web2c' is not writable. I can't find the format file `latex.fmt'! $ Searching the web, I found http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/applications/485… and https://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/applications/48… but installing texlive-collection-latexextra, texlive-collection-fontsextra and texlive-filesystem did not help at all.
