[opensuse] Troubleshooting "no sound" problem - HDA Intel PCH

All, I have a new to me Dell laptop that I'm trying openSUSE on. My first big problem is a lack of sound. I created a bugzilla, but I suspect good troubleshooting can resolve it. I'm just not good at troubleshooting sound card issues: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=805865 Any advice on next steps? fyi: yes, I'm testing with 12.3 RC1, but I have no reason to think this is a 12.3 specific bug. [opensuse] Snapper and EXT4 [Tumbleweed]

[opensuse] can't mount USB dribe /dev/sdb1

I am using opensuse 12 on my ThinkPad T60 and can't mount my thumb drive. It is 4GIG fat32 and 90% filled with important files. [opensuse] Is it possible to flag or report posts on this list for removal when off-topic?

I find the mailing lists and its archives an invaluable resource when I need to fix a specific problem. Chances are someone has experienced that same problem as me and has a solution that I can build off of =) I find some threads go off topic with people trying to have other debates or discussions. This makes it hard to read through a thread and catch the on-topic posts and see the solution to the original problem. Don't get me wrong, when help comes, it is usually more than what's needed and becomes insightful as I learn more about Linux and openSUSE in general. In fact, I'm not reading this list for much help anymore, but just to entertain myself and watch people flame or bicker at each other. I even look forward to it on Sunday and know what users to look for to read an amusing argument =) I don't think there is a reporting mechanism (at least couldn't find one searchable through the archive) to report a topic as off-topic and get it removed. What can I do to help this situation when it comes up and I find topics going off the radar? Do end users like me maybe just post to that thread and reference some guidelines for posting on the mailing list that would include "staying on-topic"? Is there a link I can use with best-practices or guidelines? Hello: I would like to use vice on 64 bit openSUSE 12.1. I installed vice vice-2.4-2.1.x86_64 from lemmy04 repo. (http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/lemmy04/openSUSE_12.2/x86_6…) When I start x64 I get: > x64 ... C64MEM: Error - Couldn't load kernal ROM `kernal'. Error - Machine initialization failed. It seems kernal roms are not installed. I tried the other available repo, gberh, it has the same issue. How can I make it work? [opensuse] yast - command line argument to disable last time-out?

Is there a way to prevent Yast from timing out and automatically rebooting when the installation is complete? Hello: I have openSUSE 11.2 with KDE 3.5.10. I'd like to take screenshots showing current position and form/type of my mouse pointer/arrow. I tried ksnapshot but the shots it takes do not include mouse pointer. Any solution? [opensuse] Suse 12.3 RC1 is a BIG improvement over 12.2 (which was buggy unstable)

When the last Suse Online Update killed the X-server on my Dell M4600 notebook PC last Thursday, 14 Feb 2013, I had enough: Instead of fiddling around with 12.2 yet another time, I took the plunge and installed 12.3 RC1. I was pleasantly surprised! The system worked out of the box. The Graphics for the nVidia Quadro were fine. Firefox, thunderbird, chromium - no problem. Only two issues: 1) One minor bug in partitioner 2) My Logitech M555b bluetooth mouse is recognized, but does not work. I have registered both issues in Bugzilla - let's hope they are fixed when the final release comes out. Keep up the good work! [opensuse] e2fsprogs 1.42.7 incompatible with OpenSuSE?

Are there incompatibilities between e2fsprogs 1.42.7 (.7 = the latest version) and OpenSuSE? The reason I ask: e2fsprogs .7 is out for a while and exists for all major distributions - except OpenSuSE. Key packages like this usually appear in the OpenSuSE package search fairly quickly, but not this one. So I wonder: Is there a technical reason for that? Background: I have a 19TB ext4 file system with bigalloc that I need to resize to 23TB. e2fsprogs 1.42.6 has a bug in the resize tool that corrupts the file system when resizing. Earlier versions cannot do that at all. 1.42.7 fixed this, so I really need this version. Of course I could try to compile it myself, but if this version is known to cause problems openSuSE, then I guess I should not.
