[opensuse] Moving/Restore Xen Image

Hi, How to move/restore a xen image into new computer ? I have problem, my computer crash after power loss but all data has been safe into a new place. I have a raw image disk contains Xen image. I'm trying to restore the image by using Xen Virtual Machine Manager, choose the second option (I have a disk or disk image with an installed system), choose an existing raw disk image but there is an error while running new appliance : "No kernel was found. The installation may have failed." Hi listmates, Since kernel 2.6.34 the ssd related trim command is supported by the kernel. If I read things correct than the OS tells the ssd-device where the free space is. This looks to me as filesystem related action. Using a ssd disk raises the following questions. 1. If I make partitions on an ssd is the trim action bound to the partition or uses it the space of the whole device. What is influence of partitions on the trim command. 2. If I do device related actions, like dd if=disk of=ssd, is the trim functionality than active ? If not when are the unused blocks then erased ? When I mount the ssd after this action the OS doesn't know about the non used non erased blocks. Has somebody some expertice with this matter ? I'm sure this issue has come up before (found several references in google, all with URLs that point into oblivion since changes. e.g. http://en.opensuse.org/VirtualBox_installation) I seem to have something weird.. installed opensuse 11.3, tried compiling my own version of virtual box OSE, then realized there was something in a repository for it, picked the virtualbox-ose packages in yast, installed, run and now get: Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908) The VirtualBox Linux kernel driver (vboxdrv) is either not loaded or there is a permission problem with /dev/vboxdrv. Please reinstall the kernel module by exec uting '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup' as root. Users of Ubuntu, Fedora or Mandriva should install the DKMS package fir st. This package keeps track of Linux kernel changes and recompiles the vboxdrv kernel module if necessary. if I try to run the vboxdrv script, it gives me: Recompiling VirtualBox kernel modules, NOT. It has been packaged...done so some hints would be helpful. Perhaps my search terms were poorly structured...but I recall there being mention of some 10.3 repos mirror sites still available, and I can't find them. I think they were mainly university sites. [opensuse] USB device on headless Windows VM

Greetings. I've been experimenting with different means of satisfying my occasional need to run Windows applications on my Linux laptop. I don't want to have to reboot so a dual boot is out, and Wine doesn't yet provide the necessary support for the applications that I need. Lately I've been very pleased with running Windows in a headlessVirtualBox, and connecting to it with rdesktop. The problem is that I haven't figured out how to mount and access USB devices through the remote desktop. I have no difficulty mounting and accessing these devices in Windows running on a non-headless VirtualBox session (through the little USB device menu at the bottom of the window,) but I'd like to be able to do it in a headless headless session. It mounts just fine within the Linux host, but never appears in the guest. I'm using the current versions of openSUSE (11.3) and the current version of VirtualBox (3.2.8) and Windows XP (sp3) in the VM. I've read through the user guide for VirtualBox, but it doesn't offer anything on point. Is there anyone out there who has tried this? [opensuse] Partition 1 does not end on cylinder boundary

I just upgraded my 160GB hdd to 500GB on my ThinkPad T60 and everything was fine with my original 2 distros. fdisk -l listed with no errors. [opensuse] rndis and usbnet module symbol problems

Dear All, I am running OpenSuSE 11.3. Since I have an HTC legend Android phone, I want to use the usb tethering from it with my Linux box. In order to do this, I looked for an usb-rndis-lite-kmp package for 11.3. I did not find one (I only found one for 11.2 in the SynCE repository), so I just took the spec file and adapted it for 11.3. The module was built and everything works fine. I can us the tethering from the phone. Unfortunately, there are some modules from the kernel that I can't use any more. There are two, one from the kernel and on from my rpm pakcage. Sierra_net, which comes with the kernel, only works with the usbnet from the system. But cdc_eth only works with the one from my package. My question is: why? The "disagrees about version of symbol" error seem to point to the fact that the kernel and the new module were compiled using different compilers. But how is this possible? I always used the compiler from the 11.3 distribution. Has anyone more information on this? How can I build a module that is fully compatible with the kernel I am using (the kernel-desktop)? Loaded SuSE Linux 11.0 then 11.1 and all seem OK, 1280x1024 (SXGA, Mode=0x31a) looked nice and then after checking at the "Yast/Hardware/Graphics Card and Monitor" it went bad. The "Yast/Hardware/Graphics Card and Monitor" still has the same settings but "Control Centre/Hardware/Display" has a note about RandR not having any configuration yet. Reading various sources has not helped me find out how to configure the RandR. The command "xrandr" gives the display resolution as 1024x768 when it should be 1280x1024. I cannot seem to get "xrandr" to modify anything !!
