Anyhow I tried the suggestion above prior to making my post, and tried setting hw clock to UTC and I still have a 1 hour diff, regardless if hwclock is set to local or UTC. Another words system clock is always set to 1 hour off regardless if hwclock is local or UTC. For now only way system clock is correct, is I have set the hwclock to one hour off, then when system clock is set it works. I'm open to ideas. [opensuse] KDE3 Enthusiasts - neat opportunity for opensuse and others

Guys, For those that don't know there have been several groups that have looked at the logistics of centralizing, for lack of better words, a location for handling changes to libraries, build tools, etc. that effect kde3 in order to allow kde3 to be maintained in a sane manner and prevent the wheel from being reinvented 1000 times over distro-by-distro. Of course implementation will always be distro specific, but the goal is to coordinate/handle the changes that impact the desktop at what was the kde.org level with the combined input and resources from all those who have an interest in seeing the desktop continue so it is done in an efficient way. Aside from the great work the guys here at openSuSE have done, another of the more notable efforts has been the Trinity project headed by Timothy Pearson (pearsoncomputing.net) The chakra project has been another player as well. I have been in contact with Pearson and the people at Chakra over the past few days. What I expect to take place in the next day or two is the expansion of a mailing list where we want to gather as much talent as possible to help contribute to solving the challenges that are bound to arise in the future as well as solving some of the current limitation with kde3 dcop/dbus, etc.. Much of this has been kicked around for some time, but in the past 36 hours, through coincidence or reason unexplained, there have been a number of kde3 folks brought into this discussion so let's make hay while the sun shine for the benefit of openSuSE and the rest of the OSS community. If you are interested, what you need to do is drop by http://chakra-project.org/bbs/viewtopic.php?pid=20476#p20476 (that is just where the current active thread is - the rest is just a flurry of emails, etc..) Details concerning the mailing list, if not posted there yet, should be posted there within the next 24 hours. What I would like to see happen is those with interest join the mailing list, especially you prior kde3 devs. (I know you are up to your eyelids in KDE4 right now, but if you only write one sentence that saves the rest of us a months worth of wastes effort you have done more than you could ever imagine -- Will, Sven...) Lord knows it will be a low-volume list requiring little input. The goal is to help those spearheading this project manage what whatever the pressing needs may be to make sure when a Linux user sits down to install a desktop on a Linux box they have the choice to install IceWM, blackbox, fluxbox, e-16, enlightenment, openbox, kde3, kde4, WindowMaker, xfce, twm, etc.. If you are one of those that believe that Linux users ought to be able to have a choice to install kde3 in the future, then we need you on the mailing list. See you there. -- David C. [opensuse] Mozilla Firefox 3.6.8 update coming as online update

The updates are already in the -test update repos and will be put online some time next week. If you want to test, you can. (The -test repo is where we stage our updates. [opensuse] Xorg process taking 30% of processor

Hi, I have a process running as root which is taking 25 - 30% of my processor activity. Htop tells me it's /usr/bin/Xorg -br :0 vt7 -nolisten tcp - \ auth/var/lib/xdm/authdir/authfiles/A:0-j1o7xa It's obviously something to do with the graphic display, but it would seem to me to be using too much of the main CPU. I have a quad core, 2.8GHz processor with 8Gb Ram, and no particularly graphics intensive software running (Kontact, Firefox, Amarok, gkrellm, Krusader). The graphics card is nVidia GeForce 9600GT. I'm running openSUSE 11.3 and KDE 4.5. [opensuse] What is the best ligh-weight window manager?

I use OpenSuse 11.3, KDE 4.4.4 KDE is sensible slow. Games run under wine are very much slow. I tried to login using IceWM and my game was running ok. KDE problem is not only with games, Eclipse is also slow for me. I'd like to hear some advices what ligh-weight manager better to use. IceWM, XFCE, something else? Hi folks, Maybe someone knows how to set a password and/or username, or how to disable the darn thing, to get access to the smb-shares from my own pc to my own pc, or from MS- Machines from within the lan? [opensuse] ldap authentication to Novell eDirectory

I'm trying to setup ldap authentication to eDirectory. I'm actually doing it on SLES11, but hoping someone here can give me a hand. I'm getting an error when I try to ssh as a user that only exists in ldap, not locally. I've found a lot of references to this error, but have not found a solution that works for my situation. First, the error I see in the log is: pam_ldap: error trying to bind as user "cn=myid,ou=my ou,o=root" (Invalid credentials) I can successfully bind to ldap using ldapsearch and ldapbrowser from sles11, so I know my credentials are correct. Connection to ldap is not encrypted so I've captured all three logins using wireshark. The authentication value for the simple bind matches for ldapsearch and ldapbrowser, but is different coming from pam_ldap. So it seems like pam_ldap is sending the password different, maybe it's encrypting or something, don't know. In /etc/ldap.conf I've set: host 192.168.100.21 base o=root bind_policy soft pam_lookup_policy yes pam_password nds nss_initgroups_ignoreusers root,ldap nss_schema rfc2307bis I also tried pam_password clear. Anyone have any suggestions? Maybe I'm just overlooking something very basic. [opensuse] Desktop after update

I run openSuSE 11.3. I have installed kedtoys4, and then I recognized, that also a new NVIDIA driver was installed. After the update I recognized, that my desktop looks like this: http://www.urbakken.dk/desktop.jpg This means, that all what was located in the panel before the update, now is spread all around the desktop.
